Nanocrystalline thin films of important surface roughness and complexity were prepared by screen-printing of commercial TiO2 powder. The screen-printed titania films were tested in the photocatalytic decomposition reaction of methyl orange under UV light (350 nm). The photocatalytic activity strongly depends on the titania paste components and especially on the presence of a surface modifier (acetyl acetone) combined with a rheology controlling agent (ethyl cellulose). This results in improvement of the paste viscosity and optimization of the films morphology. Experiments under direct full sunlight illumination prove the importance of the screen-printed films for practical applications.  相似文献

Seven flying robot “fairies” joined human actors in the Texas A&;M production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The production was a collaboration between the departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Theater Arts. The collaboration was motivated by two assertions. First, that the performing arts have principles for creating believable agents that will transfer to robots. Second, the theater is a natural testbed for evaluating the response of untrained human groups (both actors and the audience) to robots interacting with humans in shared spaces, i.e., were believable agents created? The production used two types of unmanned aerial vehicles, an AirRobot 100-b quadrotor platform about the size of a large pizza pan, and six E-flite Blade MCX palm-sized toy helicopters. The robots were used as alter egos for fairies in the play; the robots did not replace any actors, instead they were paired with them. The insertion of robots into the production was not widely advertised so the audience was the typical theatergoing demographic, not one consisting of people solely interested technology. The use of radio-controlled unmanned aerial vehicles provides insights into what types of autonomy are needed to create appropriate affective interactions with untrained human groups. The observations from the four weeks of practice and eight performances contribute (1) a taxonomy and methods for creating affect exchanges between robots and untrained human groups, (2) the importance of improvisation within robot theater, (3) insights into how untrained human groups form expectations about robots, and (4) awareness of the importance of safety and reliability as a design constraint for public engagement with robot platforms. The taxonomy captures that apparent affect can be created without explicit affective behaviors by the robot, but requires talented actors to convey the situation or express reactions. The audience’s response to robot crashes was a function of whether they had the opportunity to observe how the actors reacted to robot crashes on stage, suggesting that pre-existing expectations must be taken into account in the design of autonomy. Furthermore, it appears that the public expect robots to be more reliable (an expectation of consumer product hardening) and safe (an expectation from product liability) than the current capabilities and this may be a major challenge or even legal barrier for introducing robots into shared public spaces. These contributions are expected to inform design strategies for increasing public engagement with robot platforms through affect, and shows the value of arts-based approaches to public encounters with robots both for generating design strategies and for evaluation.  相似文献

Inspired by the incorporation of metallocene functionalities into a variety of bioactive structures, particularly antimicrobial peptides, we endeavored to broaden the structural variety of quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) by the incorporation of the ferrocene moiety. Accordingly, 23 ferrocene-containing mono- and bisQACs were prepared in high yields and tested for activity against a variety of bacteria, including Gram-negative strains and a panel of clinically isolated MRSA strains. Ferrocene QACs were shown to be effective antiseptics with some displaying single-digit micromolar activity against all bacteria tested, demonstrating yet another step in the expansion of structural variety of antiseptic QACs.  相似文献

Ad hoc networks are characterized by limited resources (e.g. energy, bandwidth). Efficient information dissemination while avoiding excessive energy cost can be achieved through the suitable design of a network. To this end we propose an information dissemination scheme which couples epidemic dissemination with adaptive modulation and coding (AMC). The proposed scheme tunes the message forwarding probability and the coding and modulation mode in order to achieve a balance between maximum coverage over the network and minimum energy expenditure. We achieve this based on the evaluation of suitably defined indicators related to the lower network layers and exploiting information on the current status of the wireless medium. Building on established previous AMC-related work, our simulation results indicate that our scheme brings significant improvement over non-adaptive approaches, comparable with other adaptive epidemic dissemination schemes. Our findings are quite promising for adaptive epidemic-based information dissemination schemes with a strong cross-layer component.  相似文献

The effects of implantation energy and dose on Ge solid-phase epitaxial growth kinetics were studied using (0 0 1) Ge substrates self-implanted at energies of 20-150 keV and doses of 1 × 1014−2 × 1015 cm−2. All implants produced a continuous amorphous layer, which was crystallized by annealing at 330 °C for 22-176 min. At lower doses, the growth velocity was implant energy-independent while at higher doses the growth rate tended to decrease with decreasing implant energy. The decrease in growth velocity with energy at higher doses is discussed in terms of possible implantation-induced stresses altering growth kinetics.  相似文献

The long cane can be used as a mobility aid for visually handicapped people. According to a questionnaire completed by Japanese cane users, it seems they are not always satisfied with using long canes for a variety of reasons. In this study, hand-transmitted vibration from the long cane due to tapping the ground was measured because an exposure to repeated shock-type tapping vibration may affect the hand-arm system. A sighted female wearing a blindfold participated. The measurement was carried out in different conditions with three different ground materials both indoor and outdoors. The vibration at three axes of the cane grip and one axis at the wrist were measured. The pinch forces between an index finger and the grip were also measured using a strain gauge in order to observe how the vibration characteristics depend on the changing forces. Measurement, evaluation and assessment were based on the International Standard (ISO 5349). The estimated daily exposure time and the transmissibility were obtained in order to investigate the severity of the hand-transmitted vibration caused by the long cane. It was found that the characteristics of tapping vibration depend on different measurement conditions and the vibration might be associated with a health risk over a long life span.  相似文献

Mining discriminative spatial patterns in image data is an emerging subject of interest in medical imaging, meteorology, engineering, biology, and other fields. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for detecting spatial regions that are highly discriminative among different classes of three dimensional (3D) image data. The main idea of our approach is to treat the initial 3D image as a hyper-rectangle and search for discriminative regions by adaptively partitioning the space into progressively smaller hyper-rectangles (sub-regions). We use statistical information about each hyper-rectangle to guide the selectivity of the partitioning. A hyper-rectangle is partitioned only if its attribute cannot adequately discriminate among the distinct labeled classes, and it is sufficiently large for further splitting. To evaluate the discriminative power of the attributes corresponding to the detected regions, we performed classification experiments on artificial and real datasets. Our results show that the proposed method outperforms major competitors, achieving 30% and 15% better classification accuracy on synthetic and real data respectively while reducing by two orders of magnitude the number of statistical tests required by voxel-based approaches.  相似文献

The formation of voids in ion-implanted Ge was studied as a function of ion implantation energy and dose. (001) Ge substrates were self-implanted at energies of 20-300 keV to doses of 1.0 × 1013-1.0 × 1017 cm− 2. Transmission electron microscopy revealed clusters of voids just below the surface for implant energies ≤ 120 keV at a dose of 2.0 × 1015 cm− 2 and complete surface coverage for an implant energy of 130 keV and doses ≥ 1.0 × 1016 cm− 2. Void clusters did not change in size or density after isothermal annealing at 330 °C for 176 min. The initial void formation is discussed in terms of the vacancy clustering and “microexplosion” theories with a damage map detailing the implant conditions necessary to produce voids.  相似文献
