Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC)-stabilized gold organosol in toluene has been prepared by using a two-phase (water-toluene) extraction of AuCl4- followed by its reduction with sodium borohydride in the presence of the surfactant, CPC. The surfactant-stabilized gold nanoparticles were exploited to examine their optical properties when exposed to various solvent systems by measuring the changes in the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) spectrum.  相似文献

Multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays were developed for detection of pathogenic strains belonging to Escherichia coli serogroups O22 and O91. The O-antigen gene cluster of E. coli O22 was sequenced to identify genes that could be employed as targets for serogroup-specific PCR assays. The wzx and wzy genes in the O-antigen gene clusters of E. coli O22 and E. coli O91 were selected as target genes. The assays were serogroup-specific when tested against 72 E. coli O22 strains and 57 E. coli O91 strains isolated from food, humans, and animals, representative strains belonging to 168 E. coli O serogroups and non-E. coli bacteria. Furthermore, 72 E. coli O22 strains and 57 E. coli O91 strains isolated from food, water, animals, and humans were tested by the PCR for the presence of six and 19 virulence genes, respectively, associated with pathogenic E. coli strains. Based on the PCR screening results, multiplex PCR assays targeting the O22 wzy gene and the cnf-1 and sfa genes in E. coli O22 and the O91 wzy gene, conserved sequences of stx 1 and stx 2 genes, and the astA and cdt-III genes in E. coli O91 were developed to detect and identify pathogenic strains belonging to serogroups O22 and O91. Furthermore, E. coli O22 and O91 were detected by multiplex PCR assays targeting the wzx or wzy genes and conserved sequences of the stx 1 and stx 2 genes in ground beef samples inoculated with approximately two colony-forming units (CFU)/25 g after 18-h enrichment. The results demonstrate that the E. coli O22 and O91 wzx and wzy gene sequences were specific for the respective serogroups and can be used as diagnostic markers for rapid identification of these serogroups as an alternative to serotyping. The multiplex PCR assays targeting the O22 and O91 wzx and wzy genes and virulence genes can be used to identify and to detect pathogenic strains of these serogroups in food and fecal samples. The importance of substrate temperature in determining the quality, uniformity and growth rate of diamond films is now well recognized. In the hot-filament assisted chemical vapor deposition of diamond, the mechanism of heat transfer is unique. In addition to conduction, convection and radiation, filament-to-substrate heat transfer takes place by dissociation of molecular hydrogen at or near the filament and recombination of atomic hydrogen at the substrate surface. In this paper, the role of atomic hydrogen recombination in heat transfer is examined. Furthermore, the effects of system geometry and process variables on the substrate temperature distribution are analyzed. The results indicate that atomic hydrogen recombination at the substrate plays a significant role in substrate heating. In hot-filament assisted diamond deposition, system geometry, filament temperature and pressure are the most important factors in determining the substrate temperature distribution.  相似文献

During friction stir welding, polygonal tool pins experience severe stresses and, under certain conditions, loss of functionality due to adhesion of plasticised material on their surfaces. The extent of adhesion is analysed for various pin geometry and welding conditions based on the theory of machining. The effective stresses on the polygonal pins are evaluated following the principles of mechanics. The results show that the polygonal pins with fewer sides can avoid permanent adhesion of plasticised material at higher weld pitch, which is defined as a ratio of welding speed and tool rotational speed. The computed pin geometries for minimum adhesion are compared with the pin profiles recommended by various investigators based on independent experiments. The computed stresses show that pins with larger number of sides will experience lower stresses for any given set of welding variables.  相似文献

High-pressure phases of CaCO3, namely aragonite, calcite II, and possibly calcite III, were synthesized in air by exposing 10- to 20-μm-size particles of CaCO3 (calcite I phase) to a CO2 laser radiation at short pulse lengths (≤0.1 ms). The process, therefore, has the same effect as exposing the particles to at least several hundred megapascals pressure. Processing at higher pulse lengths resulted in the decomposition of CaCO3 to CaO and CO2. The extent of decomposition increased with increasing pulse length.  相似文献

Arsenic removal from real-life groundwater by adsorption on laterite soil   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The adsorption characteristics of arsenic on laterite soil, a low-cost natural adsorbent, were studied in the laboratory scale using real-life sample. The studies were conducted by both batch and continuous mode. Laterite soil was found to be an efficient adsorbent for arsenic removal from the groundwater collected from arsenic affected area. The initial concentration of arsenic in the sample was 0.33 ppm. Under optimized conditions the laterite soil could remove up to 98% of total arsenic. The optimum adsorbent dose was 20 g/l and the equilibrium time was 30 min. Isotherm studies showed that the process is favorable and spontaneous. The kinetics showed that the removal of arsenic by laterite soil is a pseudo-second-order reaction. In the column study the flow rate was maintained at 1.49 m3/(m2 h). Using 10 cm column depth, the breakthrough and exhaust time found were 6.75 h and 19.0 h, respectively. Height of adsorption zone was 9.85 cm, the rate at which the adsorption zone was moving through the bed was 0.80 cm/h, and the percentage of the total column saturated at breakthrough was 47.12%. The value of adsorption rate coefficient (K) and the adsorption capacity coefficient (N) were 1.21 l/(mgh) and 69.22 mg/l, respectively. Aqueous NaOH (1 M) could regenerate the adsorbent, and the regenerated adsorbent showed higher efficiency.  相似文献

During fusion welding, the presence of sulfur in steel often affects heat and fluid flow in the weld pool and its geometry. While the role of sulfur during welding of stainless steel plates with the same sulfur content is well understood, welding of stainless steel plates containing different concentrations of sulfur has not yet received proper attention. Here we report an experimental and modeling investigation of gas tungsten arc butt welding of stainless steel plates containing different sulfur concentrations. The main variables studied were sulfur concentrations in the two plates, welding current and welding speed. The results show significant shift of the fusion zone toward the low sulfur steel. The asymmetric fusion zone profile with respect to the original joint interface could be quantitatively explained through numerical modeling of heat transfer and fluid flow considering a bead shift observed experimentally.  相似文献

With a view to seek an improved understanding of the DIMOX process, interdiffusion of polycrystalline MgO and Al2O3 in the temperature range 1473 to 1873 K was studied by diffusion couple experiments. The interdiffusivities in the spinel layer were calculated as functions of composition and temperature. The spinel portion of the phase diagram in the system MgO-Al2O3 was determined from carefully measured compositions at the phase boundaries, and the low temperature spinel region of the phase diagram was confirmed from the present results. For Zn2+ as dopant in alumina, the growth rate of spinel thickness seems to increase when compared with that of the diffusion couples without dopant. The samples containing Si4+ as dopant reveal the formation of a glass phase, and the effect of Si4+ on the diffusion process appears to be negligible.
