Within the paraxial approximation, a closed-form solution for the Wigner phase-space distribution function is derived for diffuse reflection and small-angle scattering in a random medium. This solution is based on the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle for the optical field, which is widely used in studies of wave propagation through random media. The results are general in that they apply to both an arbitrary small-angle volume scattering function, and arbitrary (real) ABCD optical systems. Furthermore, they are valid in both the single- and multiple-scattering regimes. Some general features of the Wigner phase-space distribution function are discussed, and analytic results are obtained for various types of scattering functions in the asymptotic limit s > 1, where s is the optical depth. In particular, explicit results are presented for optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems. On this basis, a novel way of creating OCT images based on measurements of the momentum width of the Wigner phase-space distribution is suggested, and the advantage over conventional OCT images is discussed. Because all previous published studies regarding the Wigner function are carried out in the transmission geometry, it is important to note that the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle and the ABCD matrix formalism may be used successfully to describe this geometry (within the paraxial approximation). Therefore for completeness we present in an appendix the general closed-form solution for the Wigner phase-space distribution function in ABCD paraxial optical systems for direct propagation through random media, and in a second appendix absorption effects are included. 相似文献

Plasma beta-endorphin (beta-E) concentration was determined before, during, and after a standardized incremental exercise test to maximal capacity in eight type I diabetic patients and eight normal control subjects. Diabetic patients were studied under normoglycemic and hyperglycemic conditions in a single-blind random fashion to differentiate between the effects of acute hyperglycemia and of diabetes per se on the beta-E response to exercise. The perceived magnitude of leg effort elicited by exercise was evaluated using a category scale. Whereas plasma beta-E concentrations increased in control subjects with increasing workload, causing significantly higher beta-E levels at the end of exercise than at the beginning (P < .001), no such increase could be observed in the diabetic patients under normoglycemic and hyperglycemic conditions. In addition, baseline plasma beta-E concentrations were significantly lower in normoglycemic (P < .01) and hyperglycemic (P < .001) diabetic patients than in control subjects. Even during the recovery period, patients' beta-E levels remained significantly lower than those of control subjects. At submaximal levels of power output, the perceived intensity of leg effort was significantly higher in normoglycemic and hyperglycemic diabetic patients than in control subjects. We conclude that in type I diabetic patients, the ability of the endogenous opioid system to respond to exercise-induced stress is impaired under hyperglycemic and even under normoglycemic conditions. Considering the effect of endogenous opioids on stress tolerance, such changes may compromise exercise performance in diabetic patients. 相似文献

The transient electric field response of a step-function current excited cable lying on the surface of a homogeneous and isotropic earth is considered. Attention is focused upon that portion of the response at the earth's surface where the field is either constant or decaying with time. This information appears to have application in the measurement of the earth's conductivity using a single cable with finite length and grounded at both ends. The micro level behavioral foundation for how quality reviews of experts and word of mouth (WOM) affect demand for experience goods has received scant attention in previous research. Taking an experimental approach, the present study examines how quality reviews and peer recommendations influence consumers’ decisions to buy red wine. Four main findings are presented for a sample of Norwegian wine consumers. First, consumers prefer wines that have obtained very good quality reviews to wines getting OK quality reviews. Second, consumers prefer peer-recommended wines to non-recommended wines. Third, the effect of a very good quality review is greater for non-recommended wines than for peer-recommended wines. Fourth, some of these effects on wine buying decisions are contingent on price level, and there is also some heterogeneity to their magnitude. The results are mainly in concert with the proposed hypotheses. 相似文献

The content of organic pollutants, other than polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), was determined in air samples collected in the potroom of a S?derberg aluminum reduction plant. The neutral and the basic fractions of the sample extract were analysed, and aza-arenes, carbazoles, 1-nitropyrene and quinones as well as aromatic aldehydes and ketones were identified by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Selected compounds were quantified and the results indicate that the concentrations in the potroom atmosphere are high. Some of the identified compounds are known to have adverse health effects, and should therefore be included whenever air quality studies are carried out inside or near aluminum plants. 相似文献

Severe numerical dental aberrations are rare, and are most often seen as a part of certain syndromes. We here report on a Saudi Arabian family where first-cousin marriages have caused numerical and structural dental abnormalities linked to autosomal recessively inherited liver diseases. The two latest affected children in this family have had their liver defect successfully treated with fat-soluble vitamins and chenodeoxycholic acid, enabling us to study their dental development. One boy exhibits 11 supernumerary teeth, a general hypomineralisation and enamel hypoplasia, while an affected cousin successfully diagnosed at an early age, so far, only suffers from structural enamel defects. The children are otherwise healthy. There is no resemblance to any known syndromes. We suggest that the supernumerary teeth and the liver disease are caused by the same genetic defect, and represent a new association. The hypomineralisation, however, is most likely to result from vitamin deficiency secondary to malabsorption during the first years of life, before successful treatment was instituted. 相似文献

Recent studies indicate that carbohydrate structures are involved in various endothelial functions such as inflammatory processes, adhesion of metastatic cells to endothelium and endothelial differentiation. In this paper we report the endothelial expression of various blood-group-related carbohydrate structures in normal oral mucosa using 15 different monoclonal antibodies reacting with type 1, 2 or 3 carbohydrate chains. Twenty biopsies, including normal oral mucosa, from secretor individuals comprised nine blood group O, nine A, one B and one AB. Endothelial staining was compared with epithelial staining in the same biopsies. Five blood-group-related carbohydrate antigens were detected on endothelial cells. The H type 2 antigen, which is the precursor of A, B and AB antigens, has previously been believed to be a universal marker for endothelial cells. All blood group O individuals (n = 9) showed strong H antigen staining in the endothelium of most vessels. However, of blood group A, B and AB individuals (n = 11), four showed heterogenous H antigen staining. In addition, we found that six out of ten blood group A or AB individuals, who expressed A or A and B antigens on spinous squamous cells and glandular epithelium, showed either heterogenous or no staining for these structures on their endothelial cells. It is concluded that there are differences between the biosynthesis of blood-group-related carbohydrate antigens in oral endothelium and epithelium. 相似文献
