The influence of different SPS-based methods, that is, conventional spark plasma sintering (SPS), flash SPS (FSPS), and reactive SPS (RSPS) on the properties of Al2O3/SiC composite was investigated. It was shown that the application of preliminary high energy ball milling of the powders significantly enhances the sinterability of the ceramics. It was also demonstrated that FSPS provides unique conditions for rapid, that is, less than a minute, consolidation of refractory ceramics. The Al2O3-20 wt% SiC composite produced by FSPS possesses the highest relative density (~99%), fracture toughness (7.5 MPa m1/2), hardness (20.3 GPa) and wear resistance among all ceramics produced by other SPS-based approaches with dwelling time 10 minutes. The RSPS ceramics hold the highest Young's modulus (390 GPa). Substitution of micron-sized Al2O3 particles by nano alumina does not lead to measurable enhancement of the mechanical properties.  相似文献

Regarded as the most common and best understood of the hereditary periodic fever syndromes, familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a recessively inherited disease of episodic fever with some combination of severe abdominal pain, pleurisy, arthritis, and a characteristic ankle rash. The flares typically last for up to 3 days at a time, and most patients are completely asymptomatic between attacks; if untreated with prophylactic colchicine, some patients later develop amyloidosis and renal failure. The recent cloning of the FMF gene on the short arm of chromosome 16p, and the subsequent finding that its tissue expression is limited to granulocytes, has helped to explain the dramatic accumulation of neutrophils at the symptomatic serosal sites; the wild-type gene likely acts as an upregulator of an anti-inflammatory molecule or as a downregulator of a pro-inflammatory molecule. For nearly half a century, FMF was thought to cluster primarily in non-Ashkenazi Jews, Arabs, Armenians, and Turks, although the screening of the 8 known mutations in an American cohort has identified substantial numbers of people from the Ashkenazi Jewish and Italian populations in the United States who also have this disease. Nevertheless, the symptoms often go unrecognized and patients remain undiagnosed for years, not receiving the highly efficacious colchicine therapy; their histories often include multiple laparotomies, laparoscopies, and psychiatric evaluations. The combinations of clinical manifestations among FMF patients are quite heterogeneous, but our American cohort did not establish any connections between individual mutations and specific clinical pictures--as is seen in other diseases like cystic fibrosis, in which distinct genotypes target certain organ systems. Specifically, the data from our American series are insufficient to evaluate the hypothesis that the M694V/M694V genotype confers a more severe phenotype, or increases the risk of amyloidosis; but both our data and the recent literature (160) indicate that amyloidosis can occur in FMF patients with only 1 copy, or no copies, of the M694V mutation. It appears that specific MEFV mutations are probably not the sole determinants of phenotype, and that unknown environmental factors or modifying genes act as accomplices in this disease. Although we hope the discovery of the FMF gene will allow the diagnosis of FMF to become genetically accurate, the reality is that both clinical and genetic tools must still be used together unless mutations are identified on both of a patient's chromosomes. Physicians should be careful not to rule out the diagnosis in patients of high-risk ethnic backgrounds just because of atypical clinical features, as our data indicate that MEFV mutations are sometimes demonstrable in such patients. At the same time, physicians cannot yet rely solely on a genetic diagnosis because we have not yet identified a sufficient spectrum of mutations, and it is not currently feasible to examine every patient's full DNA sequence for the entire gene; screening an ethnically consistent and clinically positive patient for the 8 known mutations frequently identifies a mutation on only 1 chromosome, and genetic analysis of other classic cases will often reveal none of the 8 mutations. Still, our data suggest that ethnic background is an important predictor of finding 1 of the presently known mutations, and the knowledge of ancestries atypical for FMF can suggest the diagnosis of other hereditary periodic fever syndromes. As the list of FMF-associated MEFV mutations is expanded, and/or new sequencing technologies permit more rapid screening, the value and interpretation of genetic testing for FMF will become more straightforward. Moreover, as the pathophysiology of this disorder becomes less of a hypothesis and more of an understood entity, it is likely that treatment options will broaden beyond the use of daily prophylactic colchicine. A 300-MHz quadrature direct digital frequency synthesizer/complex mixer (QDDSM) chip is presented. With a 32-bit input frequency control word, the tuning resolution is 0.07 Hz at the operating frequency of 300 MHz. The 12-bit I and Q inputs and 13-bit I and Q outputs offer a spurious-free dynamic range of 90.3 dB. The tuning latency is 13 clock cycles, which corresponds to 43 ns at 300 MHz. The tuning bandwidth (half the operating frequency) is 150 MHz. The IC is realized in 0.25-/spl mu/m TSMC CMOS technology with 4180 standard library cells and occupies a core area of 0.36 mm/sup 2/. At 300 MHz, the power dissipation is less than 400 mW. A key feature of the design is the creation of conditionally negating multipliers.  相似文献

Spectral resolution is the key to unleashing the structural and dynamic information contained in NMR spectra. Fast magic-angle spinning (MAS) has recently revolutionized the spectroscopy of biomolecular solids. Herein, we report a further remarkable improvement in the resolution of the spectra of four fully protonated proteins and a small drug molecule by pushing the MAS rotation frequency higher (150 kHz) than the more routinely used 100 kHz. We observed a reduction in the average homogeneous linewidth by a factor of 1.5 and a decrease in the observed linewidth by a factor 1.25. We conclude that even faster MAS is highly attractive and increases mass sensitivity at a moderate price in overall sensitivity.  相似文献

The ball milling-induced reduction of MoS2 by Al has been investigated. Although this is a highly exothermic reaction that, based on its thermodynamic properties, should progress as a self-sustaining process, ignition could not be achieved by ball milling. In order to identify the reason, XRD, particle size distribution, SEM, and DTA measurements were carried out on a series of samples milled for different durations. It was found that the largest composite agglomerates broke up due to the presence of a fine dispersion of MoS2 particles. SEM also revealed that the grains are packed rather loosely within the agglomerates. These results indicate that a self-sustaining process can take place only if large and well-compacted composite particles are present.  相似文献

A new method of analysis of vanillin, syringaldehyde, coniferaldehyde, and sinapaldehyde in brandy and wine by high-performance capillary electrophoresis is described. Electrophoretic mobility of these compounds is achieved by a borate buffer at pH 9.3. At this pH, the sensitivity of UV detection of these phenolic aldehydes also increases. UV absorptions at 348, 362, 404, and 422 nm were selected for monitoring vanillin, syringaldehyde, coniferaldehyde, and sinapaldehyde, respectively. This procedure was performed simultaneously during one run using a diode array detector. Samples of brandy or wine were analyzed directly without concentration, extraction, or any other preliminary treatment of the test sample. The limits of detection were found to be 0.275, 0.1425, 0.1475, and 0.1975 ppm for syringaldehyde, coniferaldehyde, sinapaldehyde, and vanillin, respectively, which is acceptable for analysis of both brandy and wine aged in oak barrels. The method has been shown to be linear in a range from 0.3 to 57 mg/L. Recoveries ranged between 99.9% and 107.7% for all of the compounds tested. Repeatability and reproducibility of the method were high. The relative standard deviation was consequently approximately 3% and also between 4.47% and 6.89% for all tested compounds. The method is useful for the identification of counterfeit brandy, which is easy to recognize by the absence of sinapaldehyde, syringaldehyde, and coniferaldehyde, which are not detectable in false brandy.  相似文献

The possibility of amplification of acoustic waves in inhomogeneous atomic dc gas-discharge plasma (positive column of glow discharge) is investigated theoretically. This amplification is caused by the transfer of thermal energy from electrons to colder electron gas under conditions of elastic electron-atom collisions. It is demonstrated that the inclusion of nonuniform distribution of equilibrium temperature, neutral gas concentration, and electron concentration over the plasma column cross section, similar to the case of uniform distribution, cannot result in acoustic instability and, consequently, in the interpretation of the experimental results in sound amplification in weakly ionized plasma. The dispersion equation for sound waves in inhomogeneous glow-discharge plasma is derived and numerically analyzed in detail. Comparison of the theoretical and experimental results enables one to identify the reasons for their discrepancy and to actually reveal the basic principles essential for constructing a theory which will make it possible to quantitatively and adequately describe the experimental data on the amplification of sound in weakly ionized atomic plasma.__________Translated from Teplofizika Vysokikh Temperatur, Vol. 43, No. 4, 2005, pp. 492–500.Original Russian Text Copyright © 2005 by O. Purpose: Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice for end stage renal disease, with long-term allograft loss being the major obstacle, and for which potential treatments are based on a histological diagnosis. The problem is that markers for predicting graft rejection are limited in number, are invasive, and are quite non-specific. We have hypothesized that protein biomarkers might be discovered in the urine of patients when acute or chronic rejection might be occurring. Experimental design: We have established a workflow in which initial screening for candidate biomarkers is first performed using urine samples on large-scale antibody microarrays. This approach generated several dozen candidates. The next step is to qualify some of the strongest signals using the high-throughput Reverse Capture Protein Microarray platform. Results: Four top candidates including ANXA11, Integrin α3, Integrin β3 and TNF-α, initially identified by the antibody microarray platform, were all qualified using Reverse Capture Protein Microarrays. We also used receiver operating condition (ROC) curves to independently quantify the specificity and sensitivity of these four analytes. Conclusions and clinical relevance: The present data suggest that these novel four analytes in the urine, together or independently, may contribute to a robust and quantitative urine proteomic signature for diagnosing acute or chronic rejection of renal allografts.  相似文献
