The public acceptance of biofuels in Greece is examined in this work. The analysis of 571 face to face interviews shows that 90.7% of the respondents believe that climatic changes are related to fossil fuel consumption, while only 23.8% know the difference between biodiesel and bioethanol. 76.1% believe that energy saving should precede the use of an alternative source of energy. Only 27.3% believe that priority must be given to biofuels over other renewable energy sources. Only 49.9% think that the use of biofuels can be an effective solution against climatic changes and 53.9% believe that the use of biofuels can be an effective solution for the energy problem. Finally, 80.9% of the car owners are willing to use biofuels, 44.8% are willing to pay the supplementary amount of 0.06 €/L of the fuel market price, while the average amount reported as willing to pay was 0.079 €/L on top of the fuel market price. Furthermore, eight models correlating the eight main responses with several socioeconomic variables are developed and analyzed. Those findings heave important policy implications related to the use and promotion of biofuels.  相似文献

This paper analyzes cost data pertinent to the municipal wastewater treatment plants (MWTP) in Greece. First, data have been collected with onsite visits and contain the land size necessary for a MWTP, the construction cost, and the operation and maintenance cost of existing wastewater treatment facilities. Second, they come from analytical budgeting of natural wastewater treatment system units. Twelve equations of the form ln?Yi = A0i+A1i?ln?Xi are estimated both with ordinary least squares (OLS) and fuzzy linear regression (FLR). The root mean square error and the mean absolute error are used as fitting measures for the comparison of the OLS with the fuzzy estimations. It is shown that the FLR did produce very similar estimates but slightly inferior to those of OLS in most of the cases for these particular datasets.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a novel method for human–robot collaboration, where the robot physical behaviour is adapted online to the human motor fatigue. The robot starts as a follower and imitates the human. As the collaborative task is performed under the human lead, the robot gradually learns the parameters and trajectories related to the task execution. In the meantime, the robot monitors the human fatigue during the task production. When a predefined level of fatigue is indicated, the robot uses the learnt skill to take over physically demanding aspects of the task and lets the human recover some of the strength. The human remains present to perform aspects of collaborative task that the robot cannot fully take over and maintains the overall supervision. The robot adaptation system is based on the Dynamical Movement Primitives, Locally Weighted Regression and Adaptive Frequency Oscillators. The estimation of the human motor fatigue is carried out using a proposed online model, which is based on the human muscle activity measured by the electromyography. We demonstrate the proposed approach with experiments on real-world co-manipulation tasks: material sawing and surface polishing.  相似文献

The embodiment of physical compliance in humanoid robots, inspired by biology, improves the robustness of locomotion in unknown environments. The mechanical implementation using elastic materials demands a further combination together with controlled compliance to make the intrinsic compliance more effective. We hereby present an active compliance control to stabilize the humanoid robots for standing and walking tasks. Our actively controlled compliance is achieved via admittance control using closed-loop feedback of the six axis force/torque sensors in the feet. The modeling and theoretical formulation are presented, followed by the simulation study. Further, the control algorithms were validated on a real humanoid robot COMAN with inherent compliance. A series of experimental comparisons were studied, including standing balancing against impacts, straight walking, and omni-directional walking, to demonstrate the necessity and the effectiveness of applying controlled compliance on the basis of physical elasticity to enhance compliant foot-ground interaction for the successful locomotion. All data from simulations and experiments related with the proposed controller and the performance are presented, analyzed, and discussed.  相似文献

This paper provides a review of lighting energy saving and energy efficiency policies and practices in office buildings. The results of a face to face survey of 685 managers of companies are presented, which give insights into the factors that have influenced them to invest in lighting saving technologies. The assessment of the available lighting technologies in use in office buildings, showed that the installation of lighting saving technologies was positively influenced by a number of parameters, such as high annual financial turnover, recently established companies and companies managed by older, highly educated and energy aware people. The acceptability of the adoption and use of new efficient lighting technologies and the willingness to pay for proposed new efficient office lighting technologies, following a technico-economic information session, were also investigated. The willingness of a manager to invest in lighting energy saving/efficient technology was positively influenced by a number of factors including when a company was located in old buildings, if it was companies affected by electricity shortages, and/or if it had a large floor area.  相似文献

This article explores the reasons that affect the decisions of managers of firms to adopt management practices in order to green their supply chain management. Under the context of environmental policy, the relationship between policy instruments (‘command and control’, market-based, and self-regulated) and the decisions of managers to adopt green supply chain management (G-SCM) practices is examined. The results show that in some cases the environmental legislation, market-based instruments and self-regulated incentives could play a critical role in the decisions of managers to adopt some specific G-SCM practices, while in other cases environmental policy instruments have not seemed to affect the decisions of managers regarding some other G-SCM practices.  相似文献

The majority of recent empirical research regarding corporate environmental literature seeks to identify the potential relationships between environmental management practices and the financial performance of the firms. In addition, another major part of the research concerns the effect of corporate social responsibility practices on corporate financial performance. The majority of these studies focus on the effect of either social or environmental aspects on firms’ economic performance through various statistical techniques in an ex post and static base (at the end of year – annually). To contribute to this literature, this article aims at developing a dynamic sustainability Balance Scorecard methodology to investigate the evolutionary trends of the relationships among environmental, social, and economic performance of firms. The main contribution is the development of an integrated mental model in order to improve managers’ and scholars’ comprehension of corporate sustainability performance. The proposed methodology is mainly based on the corporate environmental and social management literature, system thinking, system dynamics, and Stella software. The hypothalamus–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis was described as the principal component of the stress response 85 years ago, along with the acute-phase reaction, and the defense response at the tissue level. The orchestration of these processes is essential since systemic inflammation is a double-edged sword; whereas inflammation that is timely and of appropriate magnitude is beneficial, exuberant systemic inflammation incites tissue damage with potentially devastating consequences. Apart from its beneficial cardiovascular and metabolic effects, cortisol exerts a significant immunoregulatory role, a major attribute being that it restrains the excessive inflammatory reaction, thereby preventing unwanted tissue damage. In this review, we will discuss the role of the HPA axis in the normal stress response and in critical illness, especially in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Finally, a chapter will be dedicated to the findings from clinical studies in critical illness and COVID-19 on the expression of the mediator of glucocorticoid actions, the glucocorticoid receptor (GCR).  相似文献

Vibration measurements have been done on hand-held tools in a group of 48 platers by evaluating the individual vibration acceleration and absorption of vibration energy. The measurement of acceleration has been done frequency-weighted and frequency-unweighted in accordance with ISO 5349 and NIOSH (USA) recommendations for hand-arm vibration standards, respectively. The acceleration and the energy absorption have been measured simultaneously in the three orthogonal directions, the latter by using a specially designed adapter. The exposure time has been determined by both subjective rating and objective measurements. Individual energy-equivalent accelerations and vibration dosages have been calculated from these data. The outcome shows that the type of tool was critical to vibration load when the different measures for determining vibration levels were used. Of the methods used, the evaluation specified by ISO 5349 makes most consideration of low frequencies of vibration (< 50 Hz), absorption of vibration energy middle frequencies (50-200 Hz) and NIOSH of high frequencies (> 200 Hz). The results show a poor correlation between the three methods used. Close agreement between mean subjective rating and objective measurement of the average exposure time was found. Further studies of the relation between results presented here and generated disturbance will be conducted, which may clarify any exposure-response relationship.  相似文献
