Social and emotional competence were evaluated using self-report and behavioral measures in adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and controls. Adults with ADHD viewed themselves as less socially competent but more sensitive toward violations of social norms than controls. Films depicting emotional interactions were used to assess linguistic properties of free recall and perceived emotional intensity. Although adults with ADHD used more words to describe the scenes, they used fewer emotion-related words, despite rating the emotions depicted as more intense than did controls. In contrast, no group differences for words depicting social or cognitive processes were observed. Overall, adults with ADHD appear more aware of their problems in social versus emotional skills. Participants completed tasks assessing affect recognition and experienced emotional intensity. Adults with ADHD performed worse in affect recognition than did adults without the disorder; however, the impairment was unrelated to gross perceptual processes, fundamental abilities in facial recognition, or attentional aspects of affect perception. Moreover, intensity of experienced emotion moderated affect recognition: Among controls, experienced emotion facilitated affect recognition. Among adults with ADHD, who reported significantly greater intensity, experienced emotion was inversely related to affect recognition. Results are consistent with theories of ADHD as a deficit in behavioral inhibition; yet, results may merely reflect a constellation of deficits associated with the disorder. Intravenous transplantation of an in vitro maintained murine myeloma cell line, 5T33, results in progressive growth in the bone marrow of C57Bl/KaLwRiJ mice. Concurrent with the growth of the tumor in vivo, the bone marrow stromal cells are inhibited, as assayed by their ability to form stromal cell foci and long-term monolayers in vitro. Inhibition of normal mouse marrow stromal cell growth also occurs when 5T33 cells are added to the marrow cells in vitro, and contact between the marrow and 5T33 cells is not necessary to achieve inhibition, indicating secretion of one or more diffusible inhibitory factors.  相似文献

Phytopathogenic fungi need to secrete different hydrolytic enzymes to break down complex polysaccharides in the plant cell wall in order to enter the host and develop the disease. Fungi produce various types of cell wall degrading enzymes (CWDEs) during infection. Most of the characterized CWDEs belong to glycoside hydrolases (GHs). These enzymes hydrolyze glycosidic bonds and have been identified in many fungal species sequenced to date. Many studies have shown that CWDEs belong to several GH families and play significant roles in the invasion and pathogenicity of fungi and oomycetes during infection on the plant host, but their mode of function in virulence is not yet fully understood. Moreover, some of the CWDEs that belong to different GH families act as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), which trigger plant immune responses. In this review, we summarize the most important GHs that have been described in eukaryotic phytopathogens and are involved in the establishment of a successful infection.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: It is now recognized that attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may persist into adulthood. A number of studies have found an association between ADHD and substance abuse. This article describes three adult patients with both ADHD and substance abuse who were treated successfully with psychostimulants. A review of the relevant literature is included. METHOD: The patients were drawn from a university-based referral center for adults with ADHD. Evaluations for ADHD and substance abuse were completed. Medical therapy and follow-up were completed by the first author. RESULTS: All of the patients responded to psychostimulants and have remained abstinent from alcohol and other drugs for the past 2 to 3 years. CONCLUSION: This case series and review of the literature suggest that specific treatment for ADHD with psychostimulants is feasible in patients who also have substance abuse. Future studies should evaluate the prevalence of this "dual diagnosis" and the efficacy of differing management strategies.  相似文献

B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) cells commonly express the multidrug resistance phenotype. The aim of this study was to establish whether the normal homologue in B-cell ontogeny of B-CLL also expressed the multidrug resistance (mdr) phenotype. Human tonsillar lymphocytes were sorted to yield two B-cell subsets based on the expression of CD19, CD5 and CD10. The normal homologue was represented by a population of B cells that was CD19 positive, CD10 negative and weakly expressed CD5. Based upon functional analysis and the detection of mdr1 mRNA by semi-quantitative PCR, these cells expressed the mdr phenotype. In contrast, functional multidrug resistance could not be demonstrated in CD19-positive CD10-positive cells with strong expression of CD5, nor could mdr1 mRNA be found in these cells. MRP was variably expressed in both B-cell subsets with no discernable differences in the pattern of expression. We conclude that normal B cells with a phenotype resembling that of B-CLL cells express the multidrug resistance phenotype.  相似文献

The behaviour of a passively mode-locked soliton laser, under different energy states, is studied by using a numerical simulation. The shorter pulse obtainable is determined, pointing out the soliton properties of the output pulses. In the case of harmonic mode-locking, power quantisation related to the number of existing pulses in the cavity, is obtained and repetition rate instability is detected. It is found that by introducing a narrow band optical filter in the cavity and by optimising the filter bandwidth, this instability is substantially reduced  相似文献
