A new platform for the fabrication of crystalline micro- and nano-electromechanical systems fully integrable with CMOS is presented. A pre-CMOS process on SOI wafers allows bulk silicon areas for standard CMOS processing and areas with a stack layer of silicon and silicon oxide to be obtained, in which a set of microelectromechanical devices can be fabricated. An integrated resonant beam system with electrical actuation and detection fabricated according to the presented approach is provided.  相似文献

In semi-arid regions, aquifers provide a series of practical advantages that make them preferential sources of water supply. In Spain, groundwater meets about one-fifth of the total water demand and is used to irrigate over one-third of the total irrigated land. This article examines groundwater use in Spain from the perspective of the EU Water Framework Directive. Analysis of different sector uses suggests that core problems (and solutions) related to groundwater lie in agricultural uses and that the Directive's environmental requirements remain distant from reality on the ground, where economic, political and social reasons prevail on legal obligations set by national and supranational authorities.  相似文献

Silicalite (SIL-1) polycrystalline films have been synthesized on Si wafers and then micropatterned using both dry (ion milling, reactive ion etching) and wet etching processes after deploying a resin mask on the film top surfaces. The advantages and characteristics of the different etching processes are discussed and related to the orientation of the zeolite crystals in the films. Finally, the etching processes developed can also be used to release freestanding zeolite structures. This is demonstrated for the fabrication of bulk zeolite microcantilevers with a high aspect ratio.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to map and analyze the structure and evolution of the scientific literature on gender differences in higher education and science, focusing on factors related to differences between 1991 and 2012. Co-word analysis was applied to identify the main concepts addressed in this research field. Hierarchical cluster analysis was used to cluster the keywords and a strategic diagram was created to analyze trends. The data set comprised a corpus containing 652 articles and reviews published between 1991 and 2012, extracted from the Thomson Reuters Web of Science database. In order to see how the results changed over time, documents were grouped into three different periods: 1991–2001, 2002–2007, and 2008–2012. The results showed that the number of themes has increased significantly over the years and that gender differences in higher education and science have been considered by specific research disciplines, suggesting important research-field-specific variations. Overall, the study helps to identify the major research topics in this domain, as well as highlighting issues to be addressed or strengthened in further work.  相似文献

This article examines different forms and levels of collective action by aquifer users in securing access to over-allocated groundwater resources using a case study of La Loma, Úbeda (Jaén, Spain), one of the largest olive-growing areas in the world. It shows how opportunities for collective water management increase at the basin level as bargaining spaces increase but also how political rent influences the institutional designs that emerge. The article identifies an opportunity to redesign the organizational and institutional configurations by both securing access to water and strengthening collaborative spaces at the basin level.  相似文献

The beta subunit of DNA polymerase III holoenzyme, the Escherichia coli chromosomal replicase, is a sliding DNA clamp responsible for tethering the polymerase to DNA and endowing it with high processivity. The gene encoding beta, dnaN, maps between dnaA and recF, which are involved in initiation of DNA replication at oriC and resumption of DNA replication at disrupted replication forks, respectively. In exponentially growing cells, dnaN and recF are expressed predominantly from the dnaA promoters. However, we have found that stationary phase induction of the dnaN promoters drastically changes the expression pattern of the dnaA operon genes. As a striking consequence, synthesis of the beta subunit and RecF protein increases when cell metabolism is slowing down. Such an induction is dependent on the stationary phase sigma factor, RpoS, although the accumulation of this factor alone is not sufficient to activate the dnaN promoters. These promoters are located in DNA regions without static bending, and the -35 hexamer element is essential for their RpoS-dependent induction. Our results suggest that stationary phase-dependent mechanisms have evolved in order to coordinate expression of dnaN and recF independently of the dnaA regulatory region. These mechanisms might be part of a developmental programme aimed at maintaining DNA integrity under stress conditions.  相似文献

Long‐chain n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC n‐3 PUFA) in the diet protect against insulin resistance and obesity. Fibroblast growth factor‐21 (Fgf21) is a hormonal factor released mainly by the liver that has powerful anti‐diabetic effects. Here, we tested whether the beneficial metabolic effects of LC n‐3 PUFA involve the induction of Fgf21. C57BL/6 J mice were exposed to an obesogenic, corn‐oil‐based, high‐fat diet (cHF), or a diet in which corn oil was replaced with a fish‐derived LC n‐3 PUFA concentrate (cHF + F) using two experimental settings: short‐term (3 weeks) and long‐term treatment (8 weeks). CHF + F reduced body weight gain, insulinemia, and triglyceridemia compared to cHF. cHF increased plasma Fgf21 levels and hepatic Fgf21 gene expression compared with controls, but these effects were less pronounced or absent in cHF + F‐fed mice. In contrast, hepatic expression of peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor (PPAR)‐α target genes were more strongly induced by cHF + F than cHF, especially in the short‐term treatment setting. The expression of genes encoding Fgf21, its receptors, and Fgf21 targets was unaltered by short‐term LC n‐3 PUFA treatment, with the exception of Ucp1 (uncoupling protein 1) and adiponectin genes, which were specifically up‐regulated in white fat. In the long‐term treatment setting, the expression of Fgf21 target genes and receptors was not differentially affected by LC n‐3 PUFA. Collectively, our findings indicate that increased Fgf21 levels do not appear to be a major mechanism through which LC n‐3 PUFA ameliorates high‐fat‐diet‐associated metabolic disorders.  相似文献

This paper analyses the scientific output and impact of 731 Ph.D. holders who were awarded their doctorate at Spanish universities between 1990 and 2002. The aim was to identify any differences in the amount of scientific output and the impact of publications, in terms of citations, according to gender. The analysis revealed no significant differences in the amount of scientific output between males and females. However, the proportion of female Ph.D. holders with no postdoctoral output was significantly higher than that of their male counterparts, and the median number of papers published after Ph.D. completion was also lower among women. As regards pre- and postdoctoral research, the data showed that early scientific output may be a good predictor of subsequent productivity in both gender groups. The results also indicated that articles by female Ph.D. holders were cited significantly more often, even when self-citations were excluded.  相似文献
