spectra of the 1500–1600 cm−1 region reveal multiple features suggesting the coexistence of several structural populations of β-carotene whose precise
assignment is complex. When plasma lipoproteins are reacted with malondialdehyde, a complex change occurs in the resonance

Argues that in the perception of distance, depth, and visual motion, a single property is often represented by 2 or more stimuli. Two instances of such redundant stimulation are discussed: (a) the various stimuli that represent visual motion and (b) the 2 forms of stimulation by which binocular parallax evokes stereoscopic depth perception. In the case of visual motion, simultaneous operation of redundant stimulation has raised questions concerning the basis of experienced motion and the conditions under which different motion processes are combined. Experiments are described that suggest that some redundant stimuli owe their existence to simple associative learning. Evidence is reviewed that shows that binocular parallax causes stereoscopic depth by means of 2 different perceptual processes. Transient liquid phase diffusion bonding and associated recrystallization phenomenon when joining ODS ferritic superalloys 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) ferritic superalloys attribute their excellent intermediate and high temperature creep resistant properties to the distribution of an inert oxide, Y2O3 within highly directional and elongated grains. Careful selection of joining techniques is, therefore, of utmost importance so that the parent metal microstructure is not disrupted and is continuous across the bond line. Transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding is a suitable technique which has been used to join the ferritic superalloys MA957, MA956 and PM2000 using an amorphous foil based on an Fe-B-Si composition. To further minimize disruption to the parent alloy microstructure at the bond line, thin sputter coats based on the Fe-B-Si composition have also been used successfully for TLP bonding. Results have shown a boron-induced secondary recrystallized zone at the bond line in MA957 which acts as a barrier to further grain growth across the bond line on subsequent zone annealing. Differential scanning calorimetry shows that this recrystallization is triggered at 200 °C below the usual recrystallization temperature during heat treatment and occurs only when the metal filler melts and there is a free flux of boron into the base metal. Texture measurements show that the boron-induced recrystallization is of the same nature as the recrystallization produced by heat treatment but possesses a stronger directional 110 fibre texture. In contrast, grain growth across the bond line could be achieved in TLP bonds produced in MA956. However, a similar heat treatment for PM2000 produced simultaneous but independent secondary recrystallization both at the joint and in the bulk alloy. The present study was designed to examine the correlation between five personality traits (empathy, imagination, immersive
tendencies, dissociation tendencies and locus of control) and presence. Moreover, this study aimed to identify an optimal
virtual reality user’s profile. Eighty-four students (66 women, 18 men) completed personality questionnaires, experienced
exposure in a virtual environment and completed a presence questionnaire. Twenty-three women, among them 13 non-Jewish women
and no men, neglected to look out the virtual window, and reported lower levels of presence. Presence correlated with immersive
tendencies and empathy. However, empathy and internal locus of control were the best predictors for the sense of presence.
A correlation between imagination and presence was only found in the group that avoided viewing the virtual window. This study
revealed the importance of empathy and internal locus of control in the sense of presence. In addition, our findings suggest
that the subject’s imagination has an important role when the virtual environment is restricted and that we must attend to
cultural and gender-related factors when investigating therapy using virtual reality technology. 相似文献

Recent research has compared different usability evaluation methods with respect to their effectiveness and efficiency. The paper analyses the impact of different usability evaluation methods on design problem-solving processes of individual designers and evaluators. It is proposed that usability evaluation methods have to be divided into two categories according to their fundamentally different way of supporting the design for usability: (1) guideline-based methods and (2) methods based on the mental generation of scenarios and anticipation of user goals. We present data from an experimental study that shows that these two types of methods entail differences in the perspective-taking processes. Furthermore, the results indicate that the methods have a differential impact on the general problem-solving strategy, i.e. whether to use a top-down, breadth-first or a depth-first approach. Possible implications for the development of techniques that support the design of usable systems are discussed. 相似文献

Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is a serum protein whichunexpectedly folds to yield two stable tertiary structures withdifferent disulphide connectivities; native IGF-1 [1861,648,4752]and IGF-1 swap [1861,647, 4852]. Here we demonstratein detail the biological properties of recombinant human nativeIGF-1 and IGF-1 swap secreted from Saccharomyces cerevisiae.IGF-1 swap had a ~30 fold loss in affinity for the IGF-1 receptoroverexpressed on BHK cells compared with native IGF-1.The parallelincrease in dose required to induce negative cooperativity togetherwith the parallel loss in mitogenicity in NIH 3T3 cells impliesthat disruption of the IGF-1 receptor binding interaction ratherthan restriction of a post-binding conformational change isresponsible for the reduction in biological activity of IGF-1swap. Interestingly, the affinity of IGF-1 swap for the insulinreceptor was ~200 fold lower than that of native IGF-1 indicatingthat the binding surface complementary to the insulin receptor(or the ability to attain it) is disturbed to a greater extentthan that to the IGF-1 receptor. A 1.0 ns high-temperature moleculardynamics study of the local energy landscape of IGF-1 swap resultedin uncoiling of the first A-region -helix and a rearrangementin the relative orientation of the A- and B-regions. The modelof IGF-1 swap is structurally homologous to the NMR structureof insulin swap and CD spectra consistent with the model arepresented. However, in the model of IGF-1 swap the C-regionhas filled the space where the first A-region -helix has uncoiledand this may be hindering interaction of Val44 with the secondinsulin receptor binding pocket. 相似文献

The characterization of the specificity of alkaline protease from Pseudomonas aeruginosa has not yet been clearly defined. Some previous results suggested that its specificity was influenced more by amino acids far from the hydrolyzed peptide bond, than by amino acids in P1 or P'1 position. From other data, it was a C-(COOH)-type endoprotease where the preferential amino acid in P1 position was an arginine residue. We have studied the hydrolysis of several biologically active peptides. Many various sites of cleavage have been characterized but no arginine in P1 position was found, despite the presence of arginine in the peptide sequence. In fact P1 and P'1 position could be occupied by various amino acids. It seems unlikely that Pseudomonas alkaline protease may only be considered as a protease specific to arginine in P1 position. On the other hand, we have observed that increase of the peptide chain length led to an important increase of the hydrolysis rate, suggesting an extended number of subsites. 相似文献
