Hydrograph clustering helps to identify dynamic patterns within aquifers systems, an important foundation of characterizing groundwater systems and their influences, which is necessary to effectively manage groundwater resources. We develope an unsupervised modeling approach to characterize and cluster hydrographs on regional scale according to their dynamics. We apply feature-based clustering to improve the exploitation of heterogeneous datasets, explore the usefulness of existing features and propose new features specifically useful to describe groundwater hydrographs. The clustering itself is based on a powerful combination of Self-Organizing Maps with a modified DS2L-Algorithm, which automatically derives the cluster number but also allows to influence the level of detail of the clustering. We further develop a framework that combines these methods with ensemble modeling, internal cluster validation indices, resampling and consensus voting to finally obtain a robust clustering result and remove arbitrariness from the feature selection process. Further we propose a measure to sort hydrographs within clusters, useful for both interpretability and visualization. We test the framework with weekly data from the Upper Rhine Graben System, using more than 1800 hydrographs from a period of 30 years (1986-2016). The results show that our approach is adaptively capable of identifying homogeneous groups of hydrograph dynamics. The resulting clusters show both spatially known and unknown patterns, some of which correspond clearly to external controlling factors, such as intensive groundwater management in the northern part of the test area. This framework is easily transferable to other regions and, by adapting the describing features, also to other time series-clustering applications.

This paper presents the design and practical hardware implementation of optimal neurocontrollers that replace the conventional automatic voltage regulator (AVR) and the turbine governor of turbogenerators on multimachine power systems. The neurocontroller design uses a powerful technique of the adaptive critic design (ACD) family called dual heuristic programming (DHP). The DHP neurocontrollers' training and testing are implemented on the Innovative Integration M67 card consisting of the TMS320C6701 processor. The measured results show that the DHP neurocontrollers are robust and their performance does not degrade unlike the conventional controllers even when a power system stabilizer (PSS) is included, for changes in system operating conditions and configurations. This paper also shows that it is possible to design and implement optimal neurocontrollers for multiple turbogenerators in real time, without having to do continually online training of the neural networks, thus avoiding risks of instability.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a novel non-parametric online actor-critic reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm to solve optimal regulation problems for a class of continuous-time affine nonlinear dynamical systems. To deal with the value function approximation (VFA) with inherent nonlinear and unknown structure, a reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS)-based kernelized method is designed through online sparsification, where the dictionary size is fixed and consists of updated elements. In addition, the linear independence check condition, i.e., an online criteria, is designed to determine whether the online data should be inserted into the dictionary. The RHKS-based kernelized VFA has a variable structure in accordance with the online data collection, which is different from classical parametric VFA methods with a fixed structure. Furthermore, we develop a sparse online kernelized actor-critic learning RL method to learn the unknown optimal value function and the optimal control policy in an adaptive fashion. The convergence of the presented kernelized actor-critic learning method to the optimum is provided. The boundedness of the closed-loop signals during the online learning phase can be guaranteed. Finally, a simulation example is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented kernelized actor-critic learning algorithm.

Models of real-world applications often include a large number of parameters with a wide dynamic range, which contributes to the difficulties of neural network training. Creating the training data set for such applications becomes costly, if not impossible. In order to overcome the challenge, one can employ an active learning technique known as query-based learning (QBL) to add performance-critical data to the training set during the learning phase, thereby efficiently improving the overall learning/generalization. The performance-critical data can be obtained using an inverse mapping called network inversion (discrete network inversion and continuous network inversion) followed by oracle query. This paper investigates the use of both inversion techniques for QBL learning, and introduces an original heuristic to select the inversion target values for continuous network inversion method. Efficiency and generalization was further enhanced by employing node decoupled extended Kalman filter (NDEKF) training and a causality index (CI) as a means to reduce the input search dimensionality. The benefits of the overall QBL approach are experimentally demonstrated in two aerospace applications: a classification problem with large input space and a control distribution problem.  相似文献

We discuss a variety of adaptive critic designs (ACDs) for neurocontrol. These are suitable for learning in noisy, nonlinear, and nonstationary environments. They have common roots as generalizations of dynamic programming for neural reinforcement learning approaches. Our discussion of these origins leads to an explanation of three design families: heuristic dynamic programming, dual heuristic programming, and globalized dual heuristic programming (GDHP). The main emphasis is on DHP and GDHP as advanced ACDs. We suggest two new modifications of the original GDHP design that are currently the only working implementations of GDHP. They promise to be useful for many engineering applications in the areas of optimization and optimal control. Based on one of these modifications, we present a unified approach to all ACDs. This leads to a generalized training procedure for ACDs.  相似文献
