In light of the increasing acceptance of the notion of next generation networks (NGN), which results from the convergence of the fixed and mobile telecommunications, Internet, and entertainment sectors, there is a need for the realization of next-generation service delivery platforms to allow seamless and adaptive provisioning of multimedia information and communication services to mobile users. This means that in such an NGN environment different end systems, access networks, and service platforms have to be integrated. For this highly heterogeneous communications and services environment, we propose a self-adaptive service provisioning middleware framework (ASPF), which, by interoperating with existing wireless and wireline service delivery platforms, aims to enable seamless omnipresent service provisioning to mobile users anywhere, anytime, and in any context. The ASPF is intended to "liberate" applications from space and time limitations, networks, platforms, and device dependences, minimize time-to-market constraints, and eliminate major hurdles that hinder the rapid deployment of new mobile services and applications. Key to this goal is interworking/integration with current SDPs, such as IN/CAMEL, OSA/Parlay, and the emerging IMS.  相似文献

A new soft decision maximum-likelihood decoding algorithm, which generates the minimum set of candidate codewords by efficiently applying the algebraic decoder is proposed. As a result, the decoding complexity is reduced without degradation of performance. The new algorithm is tested and verified by simulation results.Panagiotis G. Interactive multimedia services to residential users   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Despite the business risks involved in the introduction of digital video and interactive television, vigorous investments made by the telecommunication industries and content owners clearly demonstrate the belief that such services are going to happen. In this paper, a complete scenario for the provision of interactive multimedia services from the residential user's point of view is considered, focusing on software components. Initially, a reference architecture configuration, based on the DAVIC paradigm, suitable for the provision of residential interactive broadband services is presented. In addition to hardware capabilities, the system will be considered successful only if it is easy to learn, worth the time and cost-effective. Consequently, a set of possible service requirements is introduced and a development process for distributed interactive multimedia applications is proposed. Finally, based on experience gained from the implementation of applications in different residential trials throughout Europe, guidelines and methodologies for user interface design are illustrated  相似文献

Although a critical mass of households worldwide have access to the information superhighway, the broadband consumer networking and automation market is still evolving very slowly. Two reasons may be identified for this delay. The first one is related to the lack of broadband home data networks. Consumer electronics networks either do not exist at all or they are not able to support multimedia communications. The second reason is the large variety of ad hoc consortia or (un‐)authorized standardization bodies that have been defining independent, in many cases non‐interoperable specifications for residential networks. In this paper, we analyse and compare some of the most widely accepted, foreseen or advanced current and future broadband consumer electronics networking technologies able to support home automation and multimedia in‐home appliances. Technologies and standards are categorized in three groups based on their physical medium requirements. Moreover, we discuss technologies that are independent of the lower layers, and aim to provide convergence between multiple in‐home and access networks. Advances in network architecture, enhancements in signaling protocols, provisioning of end-to-end QoS, worldwide seamless mobility, and flexible service provision are among the major research challenges toward next-generation wireless networks. The integration and interoperability of all these technologies, along with new truly broadband wireless innovations and intelligent user-oriented services will lead toward the so-called 4G wireless networks. In this article we identify the key issues of an innovative transparent IP radio access system that targets 4G networks.  相似文献

Convergence, interoperability, and mobility are the major advances and factors of differentiation in 3G networks, while the inherent IP support will boost new personalized multimedia services. However, the deployment of a global all-IP wireless/mobile network is not a straightforward decision. A phased approach, focusing on "hot-spot" locations with complementary wireless technologies, seems to be one of the most realistic alternatives. This article discusses a new architecture called unified wireless access that focuses on public "hot-spots." The major algorithms of UniWA are analyzed and evaluated, while the gain is presented and illustrated in selected graphs  相似文献
