Redox Equilibrium of Iron in Silicate Glasses

The effect of some additives on the equilibrium of valence forms of iron is investigated. It is demonstrated that tin and carbon more significantly than fluorine reduce iron. The redox potential of the glass matrix affects the equilibrium between difference valence forms of iron much less than additives correcting spectral characteristics of glass.     

Film Formation in Binary Sol-Gel Systems

The film-forming capacity of binary systems containing Sb₂O₃, SnO₂, CeO₂, Y₂O₃, Nd₂O₃, Bi₂O₃, V₂O₅, ZnO, CuO, CdO, and Al₂O₃ are investigated. The best film-formers are Sb₂O₃ and SnO₂, whereas ZnO, CuO, CdO, and Al₂O₃ cannot produce films of optical quality. The rest of considered oxides do not impair the clarity of coatings when their molding content is 20 – 50%. A proportional dependence is established between the refractive index and the reflection coefficient of a film and the refractive indexes of oxides making parts of this film, as well as between the concentration of deposited FFS, the film-forming capacity of oxides, and the film thickness.     

Effect of technological parameters on the properties of Cuo-TiO2 sol-gel films

The effect of technological parameters on the properties of 2-and 42-day film-forming solutions of the system CuO-TiO₂ is analyzed. It is found that the initial components have a strong effect on the maturing of film-forming colloidal solutions (FCS) and the properties of coatings. The properties of coatings obtained from solutions of different age are associated with changes in their microstructure. The index of refraction and the thickness of the films from 42-day FCS are essentially independent of the calcination regime; the variation of the refractive coefficient and chemical stability is inconsistent.

The effect of system volume limitation on the surface tension of a vapor–liquid interface

The effect of the system volume limitation on the thermodynamic characteristics of a vapor–liquid interface, that is, the phase states of a substance and the surface tension, is considered. The molecular theory is used based on the lattice gas model, which describes the two-phase state of a vapor–liquid system. To simplify the calculations, the molecular characteristics of the spherical interface of a drop inside a spherical region of vapor having a single dimensional parameter, namely, the radius of the system, are assessed. It is found that, when the radius of the system decreases, the critical temperature decreases, while the internal pressure, the chemical potential, and the surface tension increase.
