Epoxy novolac/anhydride cure kinetics has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry under isothermal conditions. The system used in this study was an epoxy novolac resin (DEN431), with nadic methyl anhydride as hardener and benzyldimethylamine as accelerator. Kinetic parameters including the reaction order, activation energy and kinetic rate constants, were investigated. The cure reaction was described with the catalyst concentration, and a normalized kinetic model developed for it. It is shown that the cure reaction is dependent on the cure temperature and catalyst concentration, and that it proceeds through an autocatalytic kinetic mechanism. The curing kinetic constants and the cure activation energies were obtained using the Arrhenius kinetic model. A suggested kinetic model with a diffusion term was successfully used to describe and predict the cure kinetics of epoxy novolac resin compositions as a function of the catalyst content and temperature. The purpose of this study was to determine if prostate specific antigen density (PSAD) is a predictor of outcome following external beam radiotherapy for prostate cancer, and to compare it with other prognostic factors. Between January 1990 and December 1993, 205 patients with T1-T3 adenocarcinoma of the prostate received a radical course of external beam irradiation, with no prior or adjuvant hormonal therapy. All patients had pre- and post-treatment serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) evaluation. They were followed up for at least 24 months. PSAD was defined as the ratio of pre-treatment serum PSA to the prostate volume, as determined from CT treatment planning scans. Prostate volumes were calculated using the prostate ellipse formula. Median PSA density was 0.37, with a range 0.01-6.7. Biochemical failure was defined as three consecutive rises in serum PSA, regardless of the magnitude of elevation. 4-year biochemical disease-free survival (BDFS) for patients with PSAD < or = 0.3 was 60%, compared with 22% for patients with PSAD > 0.3 (p = < 0.001). In a multivariate analysis, pre-treatment PSA (p = < 0.001), Gleason score (p = 0.002), and stage (p = 0.03) were independent predictors of BDFS, while PSAD was not an important prognosticator (p = 0.62). Pre-treatment serum PSA is the most important prognosticator of BDFS, following external beam radiotherapy, for patients with prostate cancer. PSA density did not predict treatment outcome.  相似文献

Interest in the Web services (WS) composition (WSC) paradigm is increasing tremendously. A real shift in distributed computing history is expected to occur when the dream of implementing Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is realized. However, there is a long way to go to achieve such an ambitious goal. In this paper, we support the idea that, when challenging the WSC issue, the earlier that the inevitability of failures is recognized and proper failure-handling mechanisms are defined, from the very early stage of the composite WS (CWS) specification, the greater are the chances of achieving a significant gain in dependability. To formalize this vision, we present the FENECIA (Failure Endurable Nested-transaction based Execution of Composite Web services with Incorporated state Analysis) framework. Our framework approaches the WSC issue from different points of view to guarantee a high level of dependability. In particular, it aims at being simultaneously a failure-handling-devoted CWS specification, execution, and quality of service (QoS) assessment approach. In the first section of our framework, we focus on answering the need for a specification model tailored for the WS architecture. To this end, we introduce WS-SAGAS, a new transaction model. WS-SAGAS introduces key concepts that are not part of the WS architecture pillars, namely, arbitrary nesting, state, vitality degree, and compensation, to specify failure-endurable CWS as a hierarchy of recursively nested transactions. In addition, to define the CWS execution semantics, without suffering from the hindrance of an XML-based notation, we describe a textual notation that describes a WSC in terms of definition rules, composability rules, and ordering rules, and we introduce graphical and formal notations. These rules provide the solid foundation needed to formulate the execution semantics of a CWS in terms of execution correctness verification dependencies. To ensure dependable execution of the CWS, we present in the second section of FENECIA our architecture THROWS, in which the execution control of the resulting CWS is distributed among engines, discovered dynamically, that communicate in a peer-to-peer fashion. A dependable execution is guaranteed in THROWS by keeping track of the execution progress of a CWS and by enforcing forward and backward recovery. We concentrate in the third section of our approach on showing how the failure consideration is trivial in acquiring more accurate CWS QoS estimations. We propose a model that assesses several QoS properties of CWS, which are specified as WS-SAGAS transactions and executed in THROWS. We validate our proposal and show its feasibility and broad applicability by describing an implemented prototype and a case study.  相似文献

Ultradispersed powders of metal copper obtained by evaporation-condensation technology are investigated. It is shown that, depending on the evaporation rate, various dispersities and degrees of agglomeration of copper powders are attained with the conservation of the weight fraction of copper in them no lower than 99.0%. It is established using the XPES method that a 5- to 6-nm-thick CuO layer (on the surface of which there is a Cu2O layer up to 1 nm thick) is always present on the surface of Cu particles of all powders under consideration. It is assumed that, because of a low residual air pressure in industrial installations, the surface layer of copper oxidizes to the lower oxide Cu2O during the evaporation of metal, while oxide CuO is formed as a result of the decomposition of Cu2O during the condensation of copper particles. The smaller the particle size of the powder is, the higher the content of oxides is.  相似文献

Protein modification via enzymatic cross-linking is an attractive way for altering food structure so as to create products with increased quality and nutritional value. In this study, enzymatic cross-linking of β-casein was performed by tyrosinase activity, from melanin-free ink from Sepia officinalis, which was monitored by sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS–PAGE) techniques. The melanin-free ink contains a strong tyrosinase activity with pH 7 and 58?°C as optima of pH and temperature, respectively. Such activity is stimulated by ferrous ions and strongly inhibited by Mn2+, EDTA, H2O2, arbutin, and p-coumaric acid. We also show that 2 Mercapto-ethanol (14?mM) quickly and completely inactivated sepia tyrosinase. The melanin-free ink exhibits a major protein on SDS–PAGE with an N-terminal sequence matching perfectly with an internal sequence of the sepia peroxidase. The zymogram confirmed the inactive state of this truncated protein and the presence of an active tyrosinase enzyme. Interestingly, this activity was able to cross-link the β-casein protein. The tyrosinase implication in reticulation was demonstrated by the addition of its inhibitors, with 2-mercaptoethanol being the most effective, followed by arbutin, p-coumaric acid, and hydrogen peroxide.  相似文献

Methods for determining the combustion efficiency, thermodynamics parameters of propellants, and characteristics of ramjets are analyzed. Energetic and multizone models taking into account various physical processes of incomplete combustion are considered. An approach based on comparison of the combustion efficiency evaluated by different models is developed, and recommendations on their application are given. The results and mathematical models presented can be used in numerical computational and experimental studies of the working processes in ramjets.  相似文献

An in vitro study was conducted to determine the apoptosis induced by tamoxifen (TAM) and TAM-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) in breast cancer cell lines, MCF-7 and MDA-MB231 cells. The effect of free drug and drug-loaded SLN on the cell lines was characterised by cell morphology and cell cycle distribution using phase contrast microscopy, nuclear morphology and flow cytometry, respectively. The results showed that TAM-loaded SLNs have an equally efficient cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 and MDA-MB231 cells, compared to free TAM, and the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of TAM-loaded SLNs was generally lower than that of free TAM. In the presence of TAM and TAM-loaded SLN, the viability of the both cells diminishes and the cancer cells lose their normal morphological characteristics, detaches, aggregates and later develops apoptotic bodies. Flow cytometry analysis showed that TAM-loaded SLN like the free TAM caused a dose- and time-dependent apoptosis without cell cycle arrest of human breast cancer cells. Therefore, TAM-loaded SLN has great potential in human medicine for the treatment of breast cancers.  相似文献
