The signal and noise of single-layer Co79Cr21 media are measured with ring heads to estimate the area density that can be achieved. Densities as high as 100 Mb/cm2 (1 μm2/bit) are expected when a signal-to-noise ratio sufficient for an error probability less than 10 -5 is required. As a comparison, densities estimated from data from metal-evaporated tape and CrO2 tape are given. In the frequency response of the single-layer media, an additional minimum was observed for a wavelength slightly larger than the gap length. The human neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) tumor suppressor protein functions as a Ras-specific guanosine triphosphatase-activating protein, but the identity of Ras- mediated pathways modulated by NF1 remains unknown. A study of Drosophila NF1 mutants revealed that NF1 is essential for the cellular response to the neuropeptide PACAP38 (pituitary adenylyl cyclase-activating polypeptide) at the neuromuscular junction. The peptide induced a 100-fold enhancement of potassium currents by activating the Ras-Raf and adenylyl cyclase-adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cAMP) pathways. This response was eliminated in NF1 mutants. NF1 appears to regulate the rutabaga-encoded adenylyl cyclase rather than the Ras-Raf pathway. Moreover, the NF1 defect was rescued by the exposure of cells to pharmacological treatment that increased concentrations of cAMP.  相似文献

Previous studies have demonstrated that (hydroxypropyl)-beta-cyclodextrin behaves as a slow-release reservoir when used as a vehicle for intrathecal administration of opioids. The goal of the current investigation was to determine if (hydroxypropyl)-beta-cyclodextrin might serve as a slow-release vehicle for epidural opioid administration as well. An in vitro diffusion cell model was used to determine the flux of morphine, fentanyl, alfentanil, and sufentanil through the spinal meninges of Macaque nemestrina monkeys in the absence or presence of varying concentrations of (hydroxypropyl)-beta-cyclodextrin. No concentration of cyclodextrin slowed the flux of any of the opioids through the meninges, indicating that (hydroxypropyl)-beta-cyclodextrin will not behave as a slow-release reservoir for these opioids in the epidural space. This finding suggests that the rate-limiting step in opioid transfer was diffusion through the meninges not dissociation of the opioid cyclodextrin complex. However, (hydroxypropyl)-beta-cyclodextrin significantly increased the flux of sufentanil through the meninges. Since sufentanil's hydrophobicity has previously been shown to impede its meningeal flux, this finding suggests that cyclodextrin effectively decreases sufentanil's hydrophobicity by formation of inclusion complexes in the aqueous environments of the spinal meninges.  相似文献

The noise of single layer CoCr media is investigated. A model is developed by treating the medium as a collection of columns. It appears that there is a strong correlation between magnetization direction of the columns. Neighbouring columns tend to have the same magnetization polarity, indicating exchange interaction. It is concluded that the media consist of domains. The domain width increases with the medium thickness. These domains can also result in a poor signal response at short wavelength.  相似文献

In recent years, organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) have emerged as attractive devices for a variety of applications, particularly in the area of sensing. While the electrical characteristics of OECTs are analogous to those of conventional organic field effect transistors, appropriate models for OECTs have not yet been developed. In particular, little is known about the transient characteristics of OECTs, which are determined by a complex interplay between ionic and electronic motion. In this paper a simple model is presented that reproduces the steady‐state and transient response of OECTs by considering these devices in terms of an ionic and an electronic circuit. A simple analytical expression is derived that can be used to fit steady‐state OECT characteristics. For the transient regime, comparison with experimental data allowed an estimation of the hole mobility in poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrene sulfonate). This work paves the way for rational optimization of OECTs.  相似文献

Cypsela dormancy in Scotch thistle (Onopordum acanthium) may be affected by the presence of chemical inhibitors. To investigate this phenomenon, a leachate from O. acanthium cypselas was tested for its ability to inhibit germination of the cypselas from which it was derived (i.e., autoinhibition). Leachates varied in their degree of autoinhibition, depending on the cypsela population from which they were prepared. Overall, removal of leachate from a group of O. acanthium cypselas increased their germinability. Using lettuce (Lactuca sativa) cypselas as an indicator species, bioactivity-guided fractionation was used to isolate a water-soluble, para-substituted benzamide from O. acanthium cypselas, which caused germination inhibition. Various chromatographic, spectroscopic, and spectrometric techniques were applied to the characterization of the bioactive compound.  相似文献

Co-Cr layers deposited on Ge underlayers were investigated with ferromagnetic resonance (FMR). The thickness of the Co-Cr layers and the substrate temperature (Ts) during deposition were varied. Measurements with a vibrating sample magnetometer showed that an increase of Ts results in an increase of both the bulk saturation magnetization Ms and the perpendicular coercivity Hc. The FMR spectra, obtained with the applied field perpendicular to the sample, showed two resonances for all layers. The effective anisotropy field is positive for both resonances. The difference in effective anisotropy field does not change with thickness of the layer, but increases with increasing Ts. From this it is clear that the two resonances are not due to magnetic inhomogeneities in the growth direction, but must be due to lateral magnetic inhomogeneities. Inhomogeneities in composition, resulting in different values of M s, or in geometric structure, resulting in different values of the demagnetizing factor Nd, are the most probable causes of the observed effects  相似文献

Myc proteins are basic helix-loop-helix/leucine-zipper proteins that bind to specific DNA sequences. In vivo, Myc proteins have been found associated with Max, another basic helix-loop-helix/leucine-zipper protein. However, it is not known to what extent the dimerization of Myc with Max is required for the manifestation of the Myc-induced phenotype. To investigate this, we constructed a dominant-negative mutant of Max, named dMax, that inhibits sequence-specific DNA binding of Myc proteins. Using a rat neuroblastoma model system, we show that dMax reverts N-Myc-induced changes in cellular gene expression. A control mutant of dMax that contains a proline residue in the leucine-zipper region was unable to bind to N-Myc and did not revert the N-Myc-induced changes in cellular gene expression. These data support the hypothesis that N-Myc affects neuroblastoma gene expression through the formation of a DNA-binding heterodimeric complex with Max in vivo.  相似文献
