In recent years, numerous investigations have addressed the shear strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beams with externally bonded fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites. Despite this research effort, the mechanisms of shear resistance that are developed in such a strengthening system have not yet been fully documented and explained. This clearly inhibits the development of rational and reliable code specifications. This paper aims to contribute to the understanding of the shear resistance mechanisms involved in RC beams strengthened in shear with externally bonded FRP. It is based on results obtained from an experimental program, involving 17 tests, performed on full size T beams, and using a comprehensive and carefully optimized measuring device. The resistance mechanisms are studied by observing the evolution of the behavior of the strengthened beams as the applied loads are increased. The local behavior of the FRP and the transverse steel, in particular in the failure zones, are thoroughly examined. The operative resistance mechanisms are also studied through the load sharing among the concrete, the FRP, and the transverse steel, at increasing levels of applied load.  相似文献

The solid phase behavior is studied in the upper zone of a circulating fluidized bed riser with glass particle of mean diameter 107 μm, using a Phase Doppler Anemometer. Superficial gas velocities Ug > Uc are investigated covering the turbulent and the fast fluidization regimes and this for three static bed heights (Hs = 50 mm, Hs = 100 mm and Hs = 150 mm). The results show that the mean axial particle velocity lateral profile shapes found parabolic for Hs = 50 mm, devolve to a concave shape for Hs = 100 mm and Hs = 150 mm, creating a particles speeding zone between the core and the annulus zones. For both axial and transversal standard deviations of particle velocities in the core region, the values for the three static bed heights unite to form two stages of evolutions with Ug, where the transition velocity between these stages is found associated to the appearing of a significant entrainment of solid particles. At this transition velocity, the transversal movement originally directed toward the center riser, undergo a change toward the wall beginning near the wall and spreading into a large part of the section riser with increasing Ug. A discussion on the boundary between the turbulent and fast fluidization regimes is made based on these results.  相似文献

Large macroporous networks of silicalite-1 nanocrystallites have been produced from the in-situ hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) in the presence of concentrated solutions of both molecular (tetrapropylammonium) and polymeric (monodispersed polystyrene beads, ∼400 nm) templating agents followed by hydrothermal and calcination treatments. The morphology of these solids has been characterized using SEM, HREM, XRD, 29Si MAS-NMR, nitrogen adsorption–desorption and mercury intrusion techniques. It consists in a somewhat regular array of nanocrystals (∼100 nm) of silicalite-1 (pore size is ca. 6 nm) organized around interconnected macropores of narrow size distribution (330 ± 30 nm). As silicalite-1 crystals are grown into macropores’ walls, a secondary network of mesoscopic voids is formed between the crystallites (25 ± 15 nm). Two out of these three levels of porosity are narrow distributed.  相似文献

When extracting unknown band-limited pulses from sampled data, the Nyquist criterion defines the minimum sampling frequency. With well-defined pulse shapes and a stationary noise environment one can use matched filters to recover time and amplitude, but this is usually not the case with scintillation detectors. If the noise is not stationary other methods must be used. Our study investigates different timing strategies and how the timing precision depends on ADC resolution and sample rate. It also compares the timing precision with data obtained from an analogue setup. Pulses from an LSO crystal with photomultiplier readout are studied experimentally. Our best method gives in this case a 10% improvement in timing compared to a matched filter approach. Some simulation results are also reported  相似文献

In reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened in shear with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP), crushing of the web can be a potential mode of failure. The guidelines provided by codes and standards for the design of structures strengthened with externally bonded FRP recommend limiting the maximum shear strength to avoid such an undesirable failure scenario. However, these limitation provisions are not based on specific research studies performed on beams strengthened in shear with FRP. Rather, they simply duplicate provisions used in conventional concrete codes and standards. The main objective of this research study is to assess the suitability of the limits specified by the guidelines, and propose, if necessary, an alternative equation as an upper limit for shear strength against web crushing failure in such structures. To this end, an analytical approach was developed based on the static theorem of the theory of plasticity. The predictions of the equations resulting from this approach were compared with those obtained from tests reported in the literature and with those predicted by ACI Committee 440-02, Canadian Standard S6-06, and the European recommendations fib TG 9.3. The study shows that the current ACI Committee 440-02 and Canadian Standards provisions are overly conservative and therefore need to be reviewed.  相似文献

In recent years, a tremendous effort has been directed toward understanding and promoting the use of externally bonded fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites to strengthen concrete structures. Despite this research effort, studies on the behavior of beams strengthened with FRP under fatigue loading are relatively few, especially with regard to its shear-strengthening aspect. This study aims to examine the fatigue performance of RC beams strengthened in shear using carbon FRP (CFRP) sheets. It involves six laboratory tests performed on full-size T-beams, where the following parameters are investigated: (1) the FRP ratio and (2) the internal transverse-steel reinforcement ratio. The major finding of this study is that specimens strengthened with one layer of CFRP survived 5 million cycles, some of them with no apparent signs of damage, demonstrating thereby the effectiveness of FRP strengthening systems on extending the fatigue life of structures. Specimens strengthened with two layers of CFRP failed in fatigue well below 5 million cycles. The failure mode observed for these specimens was a combination of crushing of the concrete struts, local debonding of CFRP, and yielding of steel stirrups. This failure may be attributed to the higher load amplitude and also to the greater stiffness of the FRP which may have changed the stress distribution among the different components coming into play. Finally, comparison between the performance of specimens with transverse steel and without seems to indicate that the addition of transverse steel extends the fatigue life of RC beams.  相似文献

A considerable amount of research has been directed recently toward understanding and promoting the use of externally applied fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) for the seismic retrofit of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. In this paper, a comprehensive review and synthesis of published experimental studies on the seismic rehabilitation of RC frame beam-column joints with FRP is presented, and the issues that need to be addressed for further research are discussed. In addition, the paper presents a simple design model for predicting the contribution of the FRP to the shear strength of retrofitted joints. The key element in the model is the derivation of an expression for the effective FRP strain, based on the calibration of test data reported in the literature. A total of 54 tests carried out worldwide were considered in the review, and a database of the published studies, encompassing all relevant design parameters, was assembled. The reported test results confirm the structural effectiveness of the FRP strengthening technique for the seismic retrofit of RC joints. However, there are some gaps which need to be addressed. For instance, there is a lack of a rationale explanation of the resistance mechanisms involved in the beam-column joints retrofitted with FRP. Such a rational explanation is a prerequisite for the development of more comprehensive and rigorous design procedure.  相似文献

Barium vanadophosphate glasses, having composition 50BaO–xV2O5–(50 − x)P2O5, (x = 0–50 mol%), were prepared by conventional melt quench method. Density, molar volume and glass transition temperature (Tg) were measured as a function of V2O5 content. Structural investigation was done using XPS and FTIR spectroscopy. First, substitution of the P2O5 by the V2O5 in the metaphosphate 50BaO–50P2O5 glass increases the density and Tg and decreases the molar volume. When the amount of V2O5 increases, all these properties show a reverse trend. XPS measurement found in the O1s, P2p, and V2p core level spectra indicate the presence of primarily P–O–P, P–O–V and V–O–V structural bonds, the asymmetry in the P 2p spectra indeed arises from the spin-orbit splitting of P 2p core level, and more than one valence state of V ions being present. IR spectroscopy reveals the depolymerization of the phosphate glass network by systematic conversion of metaphosphate chains into pyrophosphate groups and then orthophosphate groups. Even though metaphosphate to pyrophosphate conversion is taking place due to breaking of P–O–P linkages, formation of P–O–V and P–O–Ba linkages provide cross linking between short P-structural units, which make the glass network more rigid. Above 10–20 mol% V2O5 content, network is highly depolymerized due to the formation of orthophosphate units and V–O–V bridge bonds, resulting in poor cross-linking, making the glass network less rigid.  相似文献
