High-performance automatic target recognition through data-specificVLSI

Under the Mojave configurable computing project, we have developed a system for achieving high performance on an automatic target recognition (ATR) application through the use of configurable computing technology. The ATR system studied here involves real-time image acquisition from a synthetic aperture radar (SAR). SAR images exhibit statistical properties which can be used to improve system performance. In this paper, the Mojave configurable computing system uses field programmable gate arrays (FPGA's) to implement highly specialized circuits while retaining the flexibility of programmable components. A controller sequences through a set of specialized circuits in response to real-time events. Computer-aided design (CAD) tools have been developed to support the automatic generation of these specialized circuits. The resulting configurable computing system achieves a significant performance advantage over the existing solution, which is based on application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technology     

Lipase‐catalyzed dynamic kinetic resolution of (R,S)‐fenoprofen thioester in isooctane

A lipase‐catalyzed enantioselective hydrolysis process under in situ racemization of the remaining (R)‐thioetser substrate with trioctylamine as the catalyst was developed for the production of (S)‐fenoprofen from (R,S)‐fenoprofen 2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl thioester in isooctane. Detailed investigations of trioctylamine concentration on the enzyme activation and the kinetic behavior of the thioester in racemization and enzymatic reactions were conducted, in which good agreement between the experimental data and theoretical results was observed. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry     

传感器网络启动式自组织方法

无线传感器网络如何形成一个有序的自组织网络结构是一项重要研究内容,针对按地理区域交替性工作的动态监测网络,提出了相应的网络自组织方法,该方法以启动式方式运行网络,通过单播信令的方式分配MAC地址,标记相邻节点。在数据转发过程中以局部最小代价函数为准则转发数据。仿真实验表明,该自组织方法具有较短的MAC地址,适宜相应的网络环境。     

Surface‐initiated atom transfer radical polymerization from Mg(OH)2 nanoparticles to prepare the well‐defined polymer‐Mg(OH)2 nanocomposites

Well‐defined polymer‐Mg(OH)₂ nanocomposites were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The ATRP initiators were covalently attached to the Mg(OH)₂ by esterification of 2‐chloropropionyl chloride with hydroxyl group. The amount of polymer grafted from Mg(OH)₂ can be controlled using a different catalyst system and adding a small amount of polar solvent. The well‐defined diblock copolymer, consisting of poly(styrene) (PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were synthesized. The products were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermal gravimetric analysis. The morphologies of PS/PMMA and PS/PMMA/Mg(OH)₂‐g‐PS‐b‐PMMA blends are compared by using a scanning electron microscope. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 3680–3687, 2007     

Characterization and comparison of diblock and triblock amphiphilic copolymers of poly(δ‐valerolactone)

Three types of pegylated amphiphilic copolymers of poly(δ‐valerolactone) (PVL) were copolymerized with methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MePEG) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG₄₀₀₀ and PEG_10,000), respectively. Pegylation of PVL allowed copolymers possessing amphiphilic property and efficiently self‐assembled to form micelles with a low critical micelle concentration (CMC) in the range of 10^?7–10^?8M. The average molecular weight of copolymers was in the range of 10,000–20,000 Da, and the polydispersity of copolymers was about 1.7–1.8. Higher mobility of low molecular weight PEG (i.e., MePEG and PEG₄₀₀₀) than high molecular weight PEG_10,000 allowed valerolactone ring opening more efficient in terms of PVL/MePEG and PVL/PEG₄₀₀₀ copolymers possessing longer chain length in hydrophobic domain. Pegylated PVL with low CMC and triblock structure was preferred to encapsulate drug during micelle formation. Although all of these amphiphilic copolymers exhibited controlled release character, the micelles formed by triblock copolymer possessed a more stable core‐shell conformation than that by diblock copolymer, and resulted in the release of drug from triblock micelles slower than that from diblock micelles. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Media Niche of Electronic Communication Channels in Friendship: A Meta‐Analysis

The current landscape of communication technologies is characterized by a wide variety of choices. As each medium provides different affordances, each may occupy a different niche and be used in different relationships. Drawing on the theory of the niche, we did a meta‐analysis involving 27 effect sizes from 22 independent samples to test the correlation between media selection/use and friendship closeness. Results showed that the 5 communication channels filled 2 different friendship closeness niches. Mobile phone calls and texting had stronger positive correlations with friendship closeness than instant messaging, social network sites, and online gaming. Culture, but not gender, moderated some of these correlations: Friendship closeness had a stronger positive association with SNS use and online gaming in collectivist cultures.
