Implementation of or-parallel Prolog systems offers a number of interesting scheduling problems. The main issues are the interaction between memory models and scheduling, ordering of multiple solutions, and scheduling of speculative work. The problems occur partly because of the design choices (e.g. the choice of a memory model), and partly because of the desire to maintain observational equivalence between parallel and sequential implementations of Prolog, while achieving high efficiency. In the first part of this paper a common framework for discussing scheduling in or-parallel systems is introduced, and also a collection of issues that must be addressed in such systems is presented. In the second part of the paper we survey a number of solutions to these problems comparing their efficiency whenever possible. We close the survey with a short discussion of open problems.Current association: Carlstedt Elektronik AB 相似文献

Potassium niobate nonlinear nanoparticles are used for the first time to monitor the evolution of embryonic stem cells (ESC) by second harmonic microscopy. These particles feature the complete absence of photo-bleaching and unlimited excitation wavelength flexibility. The potential of this approach is made evident for tissue-regeneration studies and applications, by capturing a high-speed movie of ESC-derived cardiomyocytes autonomously beating within a cluster. Time-resolved data are analyzed to retrieve 3D information of the contraction pattern at the cellular level. 相似文献

Aurora is a prototype or-parallel implementation of the full Prolog language for shared-memory multiprocessors, developed as part of an informal research collaboration known as the “Gigalips Project”. It currently runs on Sequent and Encore machines. It has been constructed by adapting Sicstus Prolog, a fast, portable, sequential Prolog system. The techniques for constructing a portable multiprocessor version follow those pioneered in a predecessor system, ANL-WAM. The SRI model was adopted as the means to extend the Sicstus Prolog engine for or-parallel operation. We describe the design and main implementation features of the current Aurora system, and present some experimental results. For a range of benchmarks, Aurora on a 20-processor Sequent Symmetry is 4 to 7 times faster than Quintus Prolog on a Sun 3/75. Good performance is also reported on some large-scale Prolog applications. 相似文献
