PURPOSE: Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) is involved in numerous vital processes including tissue fibrosis. Our objective was to study the role of TGF-beta in the induction of a Peyronie's-like condition and to produce an animal model for the further study of Peyronie's disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-four adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two groups. Different concentrations of cytomodulin, a synthetic heptopeptide with TGF-beta-like activity, were injected into the tunica of each rat from the first group (n = 18). Rats in the second group (n = 6) received saline injections as a control. The tunical tissues were taken after 3 days, 2 weeks, and 6 weeks and were examined using Hart and Trichrome stains. In the same tissue samples, TGF-beta mRNA and protein expression were studied. RESULTS: Histological alterations were observed in 15 out of 18 cytomodulin-injected rats, especially in tissue examined after 6 weeks. The most prominent changes were chronic cellular infiltration, focal and diffuse elastosis, thickening, disorganization and clumping of the collagen bundles. Results from immunoblot revealed remarkable TGF-beta1 protein expression in all the cytomodulin-injected rats only after 2 and 6 weeks. No remarkable TGF-beta2 or TGF-beta3 protein expression was observed. TGF-beta1 mRNA expression in the cytomodulin-injected rats was noticed in rats injected with higher concentrations after 3 days, while it was expressed in all rats after 2 weeks. There was no expression in the control group after either 3 days or 2 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: Cytomodulin can induce Peyronie's-like condition in the rat penis, which may explain the role of TGF-beta in the pathogenesis of Peyronie's disease. 相似文献

ABSTRACTAcoustic properties of aqueous solution of AgNO3 at various concentrations, in presence of Tannic Acid at a fixed concentration (1 × 10?4 M/L) are studied by ultrasonic method. Tannic acid, a compound derived from plant extracts, is used as the reducing and stabilizing agent to synthesize Ag-NPs and also enables variation of the mean size of Ag-NPs by taking a suitable concentration ratio of AgNO3 and Tannic acid in distilled water. Ag-NPs are synthesized at room temperature and further stabilized with the aid of sonication. The temperature dependence of acoustic properties is studied and discussed in this paper. Acoustic properties were measured using multi-frequency nano fluid interferometer. It is found that there is a systematic increase in ultrasonic velocity upto 60 oC for almost all the concentrations studied and thereafter its value decreases, while this velocity decreases with increasing concentration of AgNO3 in solution at higher concentrations only. This article demonstrates the fabrication of organic-based devices using a low-cost solution-processable technique. A blended heterojunction of chlorine substituted 2D-conjugated polymer PBDB-T-2Cl, and PC71BM supported nanocapsules hydrate vanadium penta oxides (HVO) as hole transport layer (HTL) based photodetector fabricated on an ITO coated glass substrate under ambient condition. The device forms an excellent organic junction diode with a good rectification ratio of ~200. The device has also shown excellent photodetection properties under photoconductive mode (at reverse bias) and zero bias for green light wavelength. A very high responsivity of ~6500 mA/W and high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 1400% have been reported in the article. The proposed organic photodetector exhibits an excellent response and recovery time of ~30 and ~40 ms, respectively. 相似文献

A stochastic model (G-O) for the software failure phenomenon based on a nonhomogeneous Poisson process (NHPP) was suggested by Goel and Okumoto (1979). This model has been widely used but some important work remains undone on estimating the parameters. The authors present a necessary and sufficient condition for the likelihood estimates to be finite, positive, and unique. A modification of the G-O model is suggested. The performance measures and parametric inferences of the new model are discussed. This paper reports the application of fuzzy set theory for decision-making in the assessment of physico-chemical quality of groundwater for drinking purposes. Methodology based on fuzzy set theory used to express the quality of water in the imprecise environment of monitored data and prescribed limits given in a non-probabilistic sense. Fuzzy synthetic evaluation model gives the certainty levels for the acceptability of the water based on the prescribed limit of various regulatory bodies quality class and perception of the experts from the field of drinking water quality. Application of fuzzy rule based optimization model is illustrated with 42 groundwater samples collected from the 15 villages of Ateli block of southern Haryana, India. These samples were analysed for 16 different physico-chemical water quality parameters. Ten parameters were used for the quality assessment using this approach. The analysis showed that four samples were in "desirable" category with certainty level of 35-58%, 23 samples were in "acceptable" category whose certainty level ranged from 37 to 75% and remaining 15 samples were in "not acceptable" category for drinking purposes with certainty levels from 44 to 100%. This concludes that about 64% water sources were either in "desirable" or "acceptable" category for drinking purposes. 相似文献
