Polymers have been studied extensively because of their wonderful array of properties. Their properties can be tailored by many means and can be made useful in many ways. Polymers can be crosslinked or branched and can provide different properties, such as conduction and passivation. This study dealt with the RF sputter deposition of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) films with the aim of using them as masking materials during the fabrication of various micromachined structures. The films were deposited on silicon substrates at different plasma powers (100, 150, and 200 W) for a constant deposition time (60 min). To test the masking properties, the deposited films were immersed in a 20 wt % aqueous KOH solution at 80°C for 60 min. The films showed lower contact angles and interfacial tension, and this indicated good adhesion of the films to the silicon substrates. Good adhesion is an essential quality of masking materials during micromachining. The structural properties of the as‐deposited and etched films were studied with Fourier transform infrared and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. These indicated that the bonding groups and binding energies of C? F and C? CF matched the reported values well. Furthermore, the presence of C? F and C? CF bonds, even after the etching of silicon substrates in highly alkaline KOH solutions for 60 min, showed that the PTFE films remained unchanged in the etchant and, therefore, could function as good masking materials during the fabrication of micromachined structures. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Purpose: To develop and optimize nanoemulsion (NE)-based emulgel (EG) formulation as a potential vehicle for topical delivery of tea tree oil (TTO).

Methodology: Central composite design was adopted for optimizing the processing conditions for NE preparation by high energy emulsification method viz. surfactant concentration, co-surfactant concentration, and stirring speed. The optimized NE was developed into emulgel (EG) using pH sensitive polymer Carbopol 940 and triethanolamine as alkalizer. The prepared EG was evaluated for its pH, viscosity, and texture parameters, ex vivo permeation at 37?°C and stability. Antimicrobial evaluation of EG in comparison to conventional gel and pure TTO was also carried out against selected microbial strains.

Results and discussion: Optimized NE had particle size and zeta potential of 16.23?±?0.411?nm and 36.11?±?1.234?mV, respectively. TEM analysis revealed the spherical shape of droplets. The pH of EG (5.57?±?0.05?) was found to be in accordance with the range of human skin pH. EG also illustrated efficient permeation (79.58?μL/cm2) and flux value (JSS) of 7.96?μL cm2/h through skin in 10?h. Viscosity and texture parameters, firmness (9.3?±?0.08?g), spreadability (2.26?±?0.06?mJ), extrudability (61.6?±?0.05?mJ), and adhesiveness (8.66?±?0.08?g) depict its suitability for topical application. Antimicrobial evaluation of EG with same amount of TTO as conventional gel revealed broader zones of growth inhibitions against all the selected microbial strains. Moreover, EG was also found to be nonirritant (PII 0.0833). These parameters were consistent over 90 d.

Conclusion: TTO EG turned out to be a promising vehicle for the topical delivery of TTO with enhanced therapeutic efficacy.  相似文献

Epitaxial LaNiO3 metallic oxide thin films have been grown onc-axis oriented YBa2Cu3O7– thin films on 100 LaAlO3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique and the interface formed between the two films has been exmained by measuring the contact conductance of the same. The high value of specific contact conductance indicates the existence of a clean interface at the LaNiO3–YBaO2CuO3OO7– thin film contact.  相似文献

Very recently, in order to unify the notions of fuzzy metric space and metric-like space, Shukla and Abbas introduced the concept of fuzzy metric-like space and proved some fixed-point results in this setting. In this article, we modify the notion of Cauchy sequence and completeness to generalize their results. Thus, we extend their theorems to a more general framework, which is also appropriate to generalize some recent, well-known results in this line of research. Furthermore, several examples are presented to illustrate the significance of our results.  相似文献

The effects of vacuum ageing on the quality changes of lamb steaks during retail display were assessed. Biceps femoris and Quadriceps femoris muscles from thirty early fattening lambs fed barley straw and concentrate or alfalfa and concentrate were used. Half of the muscles were vacuum aged for three weeks (VA), and the other half were not aged (control). Control and VA muscles were sliced and aerobically displayed. Weight loss, pH, aldehyde contents, instrumental color characteristics and color acceptance were measured at display days 1, 3, 7 and 14. At day 1 redness was higher in VA lamb. However, redness of VA lamb decreases more rapidly during further storage. Redness and color acceptance decreased in VA lamb from day 3, whereas in not-aged lamb the decrease was observed from day 7 onwards. From days 7 to 14 a drop of color acceptance accompanied by an increase in pH and a decrease in lightness was observed in control and VA lamb.  相似文献

Pulse width modulated adjustable speed drives used in industries lead to significant advantages in terms of performance, size, and efficiency. But, the output voltage and the current waveforms become non-sinusoidal leading to an increase in voltage and thermal stresses. This results into accelerated insulation aging and premature failure of the motors. With multiple stresses, the life models for insulating materials become complex and ambiguous. This article presents the fuzzy logic application to derive an electrothermal life model to investigate the synergic effects of voltage and thermal stresses on intrinsic aging of inverter-fed induction motor insulation. Three parameters, viz. voltage stress factor, waveform slope stress factor, and spike frequency factor, are proposed to describe the insulation stresses for pulse width modulated voltages. These parameters are computed from the experimental results at different switching frequencies and are used in fuzzy logic-based life estimation algorithms. The results of the fuzzy logic life model are verified by performing the accelerated aging test with the same pulse width modulated voltages on paper insulation. An electrothermal life model is derived from the fuzzy logic results, which can be directly used for the life estimation of any general purpose low-voltage inverter-fed induction motor insulation.  相似文献

SiO2 and Si3N4, are usually used to mask the selected portions during etching of silicon in anisotropic etchants like KOH but polymers are expected to be very good alternative to SiO2 and Si3N4 as masking materials for MEMS applications. An adherent spin coated PMMA layer is reported to work as a mask material. It is a low temperature process, cheaper and films can be easily deposited and removed. One of the problems in its use is its adhesion to the substrate. Our previous experience in the field made us feel that sputtered PMMA will act as better mask because of its better adhesion to silicon. In the present article, a comparative study of spin coated PMMA with sputtered PMMA as an etch mask for silicon micromachining is reported. Structural and adhesive characteristics of the films are determined and compared with those available in the literature. These films deposited on silicon wafer were exposed to anisotropic etchant, KOH, to estimate the masking behavior. The maximum masking time of 32 min in 20 wt.% KOH at 80 °C was obtained for spin coated PMMA samples, which were prebaked at 90 °C. Masking time of sputter deposited PMMA films was found to be 300 min under similar conditions such as 20 wt.% KOH at 80 °C. This masking time is sufficient for fabrication of various MEMS structures, thus indicating candidature of sputtered PMMA as masking material. Various properties of the films are discussed and compared with the ones obtained through literature.  相似文献

In the present paper we have considered thermal instability of rotating nanofluids heated from below. Linear stability analysis has been made to investigate analytically the effect of rotation. The more important effect of Brownian motion and thermophoresis has been included in the model of nanofluid. Galerkin method is used to obtain the analytical expression for both non-oscillatory and oscillatory cases, when boundaries surfaces are free–free. The influence of various nanofluids parameters and rotation on the onset of convection has been analysed. It has been shown that the rotation has a stabilizing effect depending upon the values of various nanofluid parameters. The critical Rayleigh number for the onset of instability is determined numerically and results are depicted graphically. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of over stability are also obtained.  相似文献

Gasketless flanged joints with metal to metal contact offer some advantages over gasketed joints such as lower weight and better fatigue life. Design of such joints is often based on finite element analyses, and complicated by the fact that the area of contact between the flanges changes upon application of loads. Such analyses can be done using commercial software, which can incorporate geometrical nonlinearities as well as contact nonlinearities. Engineering intuition suggests that the role of geometrical nonlinearities might be small for such problems. However, many engineers continue to use the fully nonlinear analyses. Our aim in this paper is simply to put on record that significant savings in time can be obtained by “turning off” geometric nonlinearities in such analyses, with negligible loss of accuracy. To this end, a nonautomated implementation of the basic ideas is first demonstrated for a simple geometry; more automated analyses for a more general geometry follow.  相似文献
