Self-assembled peptide hydrogels represent the realization of peptide nanotechnology into biomedical products. There is a continuous quest to identify the simplest building blocks and optimize their critical gelation concentration (CGC). Herein, a minimalistic, de novo dipeptide, Fmoc-Lys(Fmoc)-Asp, as an hydrogelator with the lowest CGC ever reported, almost fourfold lower as compared to that of a large hexadecapeptide previously described, is reported. The dipeptide self-assembles through an unusual and unprecedented two-step process as elucidated by solid-state NMR and molecular dynamics simulation. The hydrogel is cytocompatible and supports 2D/3D cell growth. Conductive composite gels composed of Fmoc-Lys(Fmoc)-Asp and a conductive polymer exhibit excellent DNA binding. Fmoc-Lys(Fmoc)-Asp exhibits the lowest CGC and highest mechanical properties when compared to a library of dipeptide analogues, thus validating the uniqueness of the molecular design which confers useful properties for various potential applications. 相似文献

In classical deterministic scheduling problems, it is assumed that all jobs have to be processed. However, in many practical cases, mostly in highly loaded make-to-order production systems, accepting all jobs may cause a delay in the completion of orders which in turn may lead to high inventory and tardiness costs. Thus, in such systems, the firm may wish to reject the processing of some jobs by either outsourcing them or rejecting them altogether. The field of scheduling with rejection provides schemes for coordinated sales and production decisions by grouping them into a single model. Since scheduling problems with rejection are very interesting both from a practical and a theoretical point of view, they have received a great deal of attention from researchers over the last decade. The purpose of this survey is to offer a unified framework for offline scheduling with rejection by presenting an up-to-date survey of the results in this field. Moreover, we highlight the close connection between scheduling with rejection and other fields of research such as scheduling with controllable processing times and scheduling with due date assignment, and include some new results which we obtained for open problems. 相似文献

A simple optical implementation for the one-dimensional wavelet transform (WT) is proposed. In contrast with previous WT optical implementations, the obtained WT is continuous along both axes (dilation and shift). An optical implementation to the inverse WT is proposed as well. Cryptosporidium parvum is considered one of the most common enteropathogens, responsible for the high incidence of diarrhea and deleterious implications on immunity and health in neonatal calves. The pomegranate is well known for its health-promoting properties. Two experiments were designed to test the antiparasitical and antidiarrheal effects of concentrated pomegranate extract (CPE) supplement in milk in neonatal Holstein calves. Forty-one calves were randomly divided into control (n = 20) and treatment (n = 21) groups. For the first experiment, the treatment group was supplemented with 3.75% CPE in the daily milk ration, between 3 and 14 d of age, whereas the control group received only milk. Fecal samples were collected between d 5 and 13 to quantify Cryptosporidium oocysts, and the duration and intensity of diarrhea were evaluated. Reduced fecal oocyst count and diarrhea intensity and duration were revealed in the 3.75% CPE calves. No difference was noted in average daily gain between groups. In a second experiment, which was designed to test the effect of a lower CPE concentration (0.6% of daily milk allocation), no effects on fecal oocyst count and average daily gain were observed. However, compared with control, the lower CPE group was characterized by a shorter duration of diarrhea and higher weight gain among males at 14 d of age. These results suggest that the CPE supplement-to-calf milk ratio may potentially alleviate intestinal morbidity caused by Cryptosporidium. 相似文献

This study measured the effects of including soyhulls as partial roughage replacement in total mixed rations (TMR) fed to 25 pairs of cows during early lactation, on the dry matter (DM) intake, particle kinetics, rumination, in vivo DM and NDF digestibility, milk and FCM yields, and BW changes. The 2 diets used in this study differed in the content of roughage and roughage NDF [23.5 vs. 35.0%, and 12.8 vs. 18.7% in the experimental (EXP) and control (CON) TMR, respectively]. The EXP TMR contained 20.5% less physically effective NDF than the CON TMR (11.7 vs. 14.1% of DM, respectively). These differences were expressed in a greater intake per meal (by 13.3%), a higher rate of meal intake (by 23.2%), a similar number of meals per day, a shorter daily eating duration (by 13%), and a higher total daily DMI (by 7.2%) in the EXP cows as compared with the CON cows. The in vivo DM and NDF digestibility was higher by 4.9 and 22.7%, respectively, in the EXP cows than in the CON cows. The rumination time for the TMR in the EXP cows was 12.7% (54.3 min/d) shorter than in the CON cows, and this was probably related to the difference of 12.4% in physically effective NDF intake between the 2 groups. Patterns of daily rumination and feed consumption throughout an average day showed a delay of approximately 1 to 2 h between the eating and rumination peaks. Particle flow from the rumen of the EXP cows was characterized by a longer rumen mean retention time (by 17.8%) and longer rumination time per kilogram of roughage ingested (by 23.5%) as compared with the CON cows. Thus, favorable conditions for NDF digestion were created in the rumen of the EXP cows, as reflected in their rumen pH values (6.67). The advantage of the EXP cows in intake and digestibility was reflected in a concomitant increase of 7.4% in milk production and of 9.2% in FCM yield as compared with the CON cows. No difference was found between the 2 groups with respect to efficiency of feed utilization for milk production and BW changes. 相似文献

We study a single-machine scheduling problem in a flexible framework where both job processing times and due dates are decision
variables to be determined by the scheduler. The model can also be applied for quoting delivery times when some parts of the
jobs may be outsourced. We analyze the problem for two due date assignment methods and a convex resource consumption function.
For each due date assignment method, we provide a bicriteria analysis where the first criterion is to minimize the total weighted
number of tardy jobs plus due date assignment cost, and the second criterion is to minimize total weighted resource consumption.
We consider four different models for treating the two criteria. Although the problem of minimizing a single integrated objective
function can be solved in polynomial time, we prove that the three bicriteria models are NP\mathcal{NP}-hard for both due date assignment methods. We also present special cases, which frequently occur in practice, and in which

Pentabromobenzylacrylate (PBBA) is a possible candidate for use as a fire retardant (FR) in polypropylene (PP) composites. While PBBA imparts FR properties to the PP composite, it also affects adversely its mechanical properties. The FR may undergo thermal polymerization or grafting to the PP chains during processing. To study the effect of the different forms of FR (monomer, polymerized, or grafted) on composite properties, we have quantified the extent of FR polymerization and extent of grafting onto the PP chains. Fourier transform infrared microscopy was used in this work to determine the extent of polymerization and the spatial distribution of the FR. The latter was found to be homogeneous throughout the composite. Thermal polymerization of the FR during extrusion is varied mainly by the addition of an antioxidant. The grafting process of the FR onto PP depends on the degree of thermal polymerization, and therefore on the addition of antioxidant. The limiting value for grafting achieved at full polymerization is ~10% w/w. The grafted FR was found to have a significant effect on PP crystallinity, and hence it is expected to affect the mechanical properties as well.
