Two studies are presented. The first aimed to identify possible barriers to the uptake and use of commonly available telephony features and to determine whether greater knowledge of features/access codes and availability of user manuals could increase feature usage under certain conditions. Results showed that feature-usage patterns were not affected by any of the manipulations, but that they were determined by specific job demands. Using Constantine and Lockwood's (1999) conceptualization of user roles, a method to support feature bundling decisions for specific target markets was developed and tested in the second study. The method - Strategic User Needs Analysis (SUNA) - was shown to yield a useful balance between high- and low-level information about selected roles. SUNA provided sufficient information to distinguish between PDA feature usage patterns of two similar target user groups as well as to suggest additional features each of the two target groups would find useful. The development of SUNA and observational findings of actual PDA usage are reported. 相似文献

The paper presents an approach to nonlinear buckling fiber angle optimization of laminated composite shell structures. The approach accounts for the geometrically nonlinear behaviour of the structure by utilizing response analysis up until the critical point. Sensitivity information is obtained efficiently by an estimated critical load factor at a precritical state. In the optimization formulation, which is formulated as a mathematical programming problem and solved using gradient-based techniques, a number of the lowest buckling factors are included such that the risk of “mode switching” during optimization is avoided. The presented optimization formulation is compared to the traditional linear buckling formulation and two numerical examples, including a large laminated composite wind turbine main spar, to clearly illustrate the pitfalls of the traditional formulation and the advantage and potential of the presented approach. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider the manpower allocation problem with time windows, job-teaming constraints and a limited number of teams (m-MAPTWTC). Given a set of teams and a set of tasks, the problem is to assign to each team a sequential order of tasks to maximize the total number of assigned tasks. Both teams and tasks may be restricted by time windows outside which operation is not possible. Some tasks require cooperation between teams, and all teams cooperating must initiate execution simultaneously. We present an integer programming model for the problem, which is decomposed using Dantzig–Wolfe decomposition. The problem is solved by column generation in a branch-and-price framework. Simultaneous execution of tasks is enforced by the branching scheme. To test the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, 12 realistic test instances are introduced. The algorithm is able to find the optimal solution in 11 of the test instances. The main contribution of this article is the addition of synchronization between teams in an exact optimization context. 相似文献

Three studies were conducted to ascertain how quickly people form an opinion about web page visual appeal. In the first study, participants twice rated the visual appeal of web homepages presented for 500 ms each. The second study replicated the first, but participants also rated each web page on seven specific design dimensions. Visual appeal was found to be closely related to most of these. Study 3 again replicated the 500 ms condition as well as adding a 50 ms condition using the same stimuli to determine whether the first impression may be interpreted as a 'mere exposure effect' (Zajonc 1980). Throughout, visual appeal ratings were highly correlated from one phase to the next as were the correlations between the 50 ms and 500 ms conditions. Thus, visual appeal can be assessed within 50 ms, suggesting that web designers have about 50 ms to make a good first impression. 相似文献

Replacing a keyboard can be stressful for operators who take calls all day, particularly when special functions must be sacrificed. This study applied several participatory design techniques to involve over 3,000 operators in the redistribution of function keys on their replacement keyboard. Video analysis and manual data logging methods were surprisingly accurate when measured against software logs. User acceptance was excellent. In the initial cutover program, operator performance levels returned to normal very quickly, resulting in over-confidence and unrealistic expectations of post-implementation performance for the remaining call centres because the focus was on the technology rather than on the impact of technology on business benefits. As a consequence, business plan requirements for future projects have now been changed to accommodate predictions of post-implementation performance and taking into account other changes happening at the same time. 相似文献

Antiproliferative properties of molecular regulators of lipid metabolism have been increasingly studied during recent years.
Discussion is ongoing concerning optimal treatment conditions and assays used for monitoring proliferation and cytotoxicity.
The objective of the present work was to optimize methods and treatment conditions used for studying antiproliferative effects
of fatty acids and analogs, represented by palmitic acid (PA) and the β-oxidation-restricted fatty acid analog tetradecylthioacetic
acid (TTA), in rat (BT4Cn) and human (D54Mg and GaMg) glioma cell lines. Changes in [3H]thymidine incorporation preceded changes in cell number in TTA-treated glioma cell cultures, and the growth inhibition was
more significantly expressed by [3H]thymidine incorporation than cell number. Addition of bovine serum albumin decreased cellular fatty acid uptake and reduced
the effects of TTA and PA on [3H]thymidine incorporation. Determination of the antiproliferative effect of TTA in BT4Cn cells by MTT conversion and [3H]thymidine incorporation yielded concordant results. TTA-mediated reduction in cell number corresponded to reduction in cellular
protein and total DNA content in BT4Cn cells. Reduced growth potential in TTA-treated multicellular D54Mg and GaMg spheroids
supported the findings from monolayer cultures. In conclusion, cell density, treatment period, fatty acid administration,
and methods for growth determination may profoundly influence the outcome of cell growth experiments. Thus, experimental conditions
should be carefully controlled when performing cell growth experiments, and effects on cell growth should preferably be confirmed
by different methods.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) T 2 mapping can potentially be used to investigate CSF composition. A previously proposed CSF T 2–mapping method reported a T 2 difference between peripheral and ventricular CSF, and suggested that this reflected different CSF compositions. We studied the performance of this method at 7 T and evaluated the influence of partial volume and B 1 and B 0 inhomogeneity.Materials and methods
T 2-preparation-based CSF T 2-mapping was performed in seven healthy volunteers at 7 and 3 T, and was compared with a single echo spin-echo sequence with various echo times. The influence of partial volume was assessed by our analyzing the longest echo times only. B 1 and B 0 maps were acquired. B 1 and B 0 dependency of the sequences was tested with a phantom.Results
T 2,CSF was shorter at 7 T compared with 3 T. At 3 T, but not at 7 T, peripheral T 2,CSF was significantly shorter than ventricular T 2,CSF. Partial volume contributed to this T 2 difference, but could not fully explain it. B 1 and B 0 inhomogeneity had only a very limited effect. T 2,CSF did not depend on the voxel size, probably because of the used method to select of the regions of interest.Conclusion
CSF T 2 mapping is feasible at 7 T. The shorter peripheral T 2,CSF is likely a combined effect of partial volume and CSF composition.10.

Iron oxide nanoparticles have found widespread applications in different areas including cell separation, drug delivery and as contrast agents. Due to water insolubility and stability issues, nanoparticles utilized for biological applications require coatings such as the commonly employed polyethylene glycol (PEG). Despite its frequent use, the influence of PEG coatings on the physicochemical and biological properties of iron nanoparticles has hitherto not been studied in detail. To address this, we studied the effect of 333-20,000 Da PEG coatings that resulted in larger hydrodynamic size, lower surface charge, longer circulation half-life, and lower uptake in macrophage cells when the particles were coated with high molecular weight (M(w)) PEG molecules. By use of magnetic resonance imaging, we show coating-dependent in vivo uptake in murine tumors with an optimal coating M(w) of 10,000 Da. 相似文献
