The experience achieved in the construction and operation since 1973 of the largest MSF desalination unit in the world (8migd) is the basis for a detailed analysis aiming at giving a contribution to the determination of the practical top size of such units when taking into account the reliability and engineering problems together with the economical aspects deriving from the MSF unit size. The problem assumes a particular interest when related to the actual trend of limiting the maximum unit size normally at 5migd and in a few cases at 6migd with the consequence that some water stations are characterized by a large number of parallel units.  相似文献

The role of excess photon energy on charge generation efficiency in bulk heterojunction solar cells is still an open issue for the organic photovoltaic community. Here, the spectral dependence of the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) for a poly[2,6‐(4,4‐bis‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐4H‐cyclopenta[2,1‐b;3,4‐b]­dithiophene)‐alt‐4,7‐(2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole)]:6,6‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCPDTBT:PC60BM)‐based solar cell is derived combining accurate optoelectronic characterization and comprehensive optical modeling. This joint approach is shown to be essential to get reliable values of the IQE. Photons with energy higher than the bandgap of the donor material can effectively contribute to enhance the IQE of the solar cell. This holds true independently of the device architecture, reflecting an intrinsic property of the active material. Moreover, the nanomorphology of the bulk heterojunction plays a crucial role in determining the IQE spectral dependence: the coarser and more crystalline, the lesser the gain in IQE upon high energy excitation.  相似文献

A new molding technique is proposed to directly mold small parts from thermoplastic pellets. A small molding machine was designed and fabricated: the mold consisted of a transparent glass and a metallic frame; an infrared (IR) lamp provided the heat for the pellet melting. Molding tests were carried out by using three commercial thermoplastics and two metallic molds. Molding time and IR lamp power were changed to extract a moldability window for each combination of material and metallic mold. Microtubule-targeting agents (MTAs) are effective drugs for cancer treatment. A novel diaryl [1,2]oxazole class of compounds binding the colchicine site was synthesized as cis-restricted-combretastatin-A-4-analogue and then chemically modified to have improved solubility and a wider therapeutic index as compared to vinca alkaloids and taxanes. On these bases, a new class of tricyclic compounds, containing the [1,2]oxazole ring and an isoindole moiety, has been synthetized, among which SIX2G emerged as improved MTA. Several findings highlighted the ability of some chemotherapeutics to induce immunogenic cell death (ICD), which is defined by the cell surface translocation of Calreticulin (CALR) via dissociation of the PP1/GADD34 complex. In this regard, we computationally predicted the ability of SIX2G to induce CALR exposure by interacting with the PP1 RVxF domain. We then assessed both the potential cytotoxic and immunogenic activity of SIX2G on in vitro models of multiple myeloma (MM), which is an incurable hematological malignancy characterized by an immunosuppressive milieu. We found that the treatment with SIX2G inhibited cell viability by inducing G2/M phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Moreover, we observed the increase of hallmarks of ICD such as CALR exposure, ATP release and phospho-eIF2α protein level. Through co-culture experiments with immune cells, we demonstrated the increase of (i) CD86 maturation marker on dendritic cells, (ii) CD69 activation marker on cytotoxic T cells, and (iii) phagocytosis of tumor cells following treatment with SIX2G, confirming the onset of an immunogenic cascade. In conclusion, our findings provide a framework for further development of SIX2G as a new potential anti-MM agent.  相似文献

A new learning algorithm for the Simpson fuzzy min-max neural network is presented. It overcomes some undesired properties of the Simpson model. Our new algorithm improves the network performance; the classification result does not depend on the presentation order of the patterns in the training set, and at each step, the classification error in the training set cannot increase. The new neural model is particularly useful in classification problems. Tests were executed on three different classification problems: 1) with two-dimensional synthetic data; 2) with realistic data generated by a simulator to find anomalies in the cooling system of a blast furnace; and 3) with real data for industrial diagnosis. The experiments were made following some recent evaluation criteria known in the literature and by using Microsoft Visual C++ development environment on personal computers.  相似文献

The inoculation of the Yoshida AH-130 ascites hepatoma to rats resulted in an important loss of adipose tissue associated with a decrease in lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity. Tumour burden also resulted in an important hyperlipidemia which affected both triglyceride and free fatty acids. Administration of phentolamine (an alpha-adrenergic antagonist) to tumour-bearing rats did not influence LPL activity, but it reversed the increase in plasma triglycerides associated with tumour burden. It is suggested that the hypertriglyceridemia associated with tumour growth may be, in part, a consequence of the effect of catecholamines on hepatic triglyceride secretion, via alpha-adrenergic receptors.  相似文献

We assessed extracts from Psidium brownianum for antifungal activity and identified the phenolic phytocompounds. Minimum inhibitory concentration was determined by microdilution and IC50 was calculated. The minimun fungicidal concentration and the morphology of Candida were evaluated. Extracts analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography demonstrated flavonoids and phenolic acids. The minimum inhibitory concentration was 8192 µg/mL and the IC50 varied between 1056 and 5128 µg/mL. Extracts showed fungistatic effect and altered the dimorphism of the strains, being the better result observed using the decoction, that affected the fungal dimorphism of the strain CA ATCC40006 at 4096 µg/mL.  相似文献

The main goal of evolutionary computation is to provide a near optimal technique between exploration and exploitation of a search space. This approach is based on a genetic “engine” that operates the search of the optimal solution via biological‐based assumptions. Selection of the optimal maintenance interventions activity, that can be tackled with success thanks to an evolutionary approach able to correct the distresses on the road pavement, is a very complex task. This paper presents an experimental architecture that improves the evolutionary aspect with additional benefits deriving from a synergistic combination of other powerful techniques, in particular neural networks and fuzzy logic. The best rules for managing pavement maintenance activities, developed through a genetic selection, are judged by a neural network. By an appropriate introduction of simple and efficient fuzzy identifiers, the features of the distress to treat can be described in an efficient and natural way. We describe the main advantages arising from this hybrid approach discussing the applicability of the method with experimental results. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) is an additive manufacturing technique for the production of parts with complex geometry and it is especially appropriate for structural applications in aircraft and automotive industries. Aluminum-based metal matrix composites (MMCs) are promising materials for these applications because they are lightweight, ductile, and have a good strength-to-weight ratio This paper presents an investigation of microstructure, hardness, and tribological properties of AlSi10Mg alloy and AlSi10Mg alloy/TiB2 composites prepared by DMLS. MMCs were realized with two different compositions: 10% wt. of microsize TiB2, 1% wt. of nanosize TiB2. Wear tests were performed using a pin-on-disk apparatus on the prepared samples. Performances of AlSi10Mg samples manufactured by DMLS were also compared with the results obtained on AlSi10Mg alloy samples made by casting. It was found that the composites displayed a lower coefficient of friction (COF), but in the case of microsize TiB2 reinforcement the wear rate was higher than with nanosize reinforcements and aluminum alloy without reinforcement. AlSi10Mg obtained by DMLS showed a higher COF than AlSi10Mg obtained by casting, but the wear rate was higher in the latter case.  相似文献
