Using Literal and Grammatical Statistics for Authorship Attribution

Markov chains are used as a formal mathematical model for sequences of elements of a text. This model is applied for authorship attribution of texts. As elements of a text, we consider sequences of letters or sequences of grammatical classes of words. It turns out that the frequencies of occurrences of letter pairs and pairs of grammatical classes in a Russian text are rather stable characteristics of an author and, apparently, they could be used in disputed authorship attribution. A comparison of results for various modifications of the method using both letters and grammatical classes is given. Experimental research involves 385 texts of 82 writers. In the Appendix, the research of D.V. Khmelev is described, where data compression algorithms are applied to authorship attribution.

The dispersion and attenuation of zero sound in normal fermi-liquid due to the spin fluctuations

The scattering of zero-sound phonons by incoherent spin fluctuations (SF) and its influence on the velocity dispersion and attenuation of zero sound in exchange enhanced Fermi-liquid are considered. The contributions of long-wavelength and low-frequency SF to zero-sound velocity and attenuation for the case of ωτ≫1 (where ω is a frequency of sound, τ is a relaxation time) are calculated. The values of these contributions were compared both with the collision dispersion terms and the terms due to the quantum effects. It is shown that atT→0 the SF and “quantum” terms in velocity dispersion have the different frequency dependencies and opposite signs and a certain compensation of quantum dispersion effects due to the influence of the SF may appear. The SF contribution may be interpreted in terms of an “effective” renormalization of relaxation time τ and can manifest itself in the more appreciable frequency dependence of the temperature of transition from first to zero sound.

Theoretical analysis of condensation in a rotating heat pipe at low angular velocity of rotation

The mechanism of liquid layer formation is studied for condensation on the cylindrical wall of a rotating heat pipe in the low angular velocity range.
