An analysis is presented to investigate the effects of buoyancy and curvature on convection along vertical cylinders and needles placed in a micropolar fluid. The governing equations for momentum, angular momentum and energy are solved numerically by finite difference scheme. The heat transfer results are presented for a range of values of the buoyancy parameters, the curvature parameter and the material parameters of the fluid. The effect of the microrotation boundary conditions on heat transfer is discussed.  相似文献

The oxygen-deficient phase of the highT c superconductor, YBa2Cu3O7, was oxygen-enriched using the fluidization technique to give good superconducting properties. The normal method of oxygen treatment at 900°C for 24 h and at 600°C for 24 h has been reduced to just one treatment at 600°C for 12 h by the fluidization technique to achieve almost the same strength of superconducting signal for the YBa2Cu3O7 powder, which establishes the attractiveness of the latter route for the large-scale preparation of superconducting material. The particle sizes were in the range 0–90, 90–180 and 180–420 μm. The fluidized particles were crystalline with orthorhombic distortion.T c onset , estimated using the a.c. magnetic susceptibility method, was 91·3 K. The volume fraction of superconducting material in the product was 83·7–85·3%, one of the highest values reported so far for YBa2Cu3O7.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an approach that combines the unsupervised and supervised learning techniques for unconstrained handwritten numeral recognition. This approach uses the Kohonen self-organizing neural network for data classification in the first stage and the learning vector quantization (LVQ) model in the second stage to improve classification accuracy. The combined architecture performs better than the Kohonen self-organizing map alone. In the proposed approach, the collection of centroids at different phases of training plays a vital role in the performance of the recognition system. Four experiments have been conducted and experimental results show that the collection of centroids in the middle of the training gives high performance in terms of speed and accuracy. The systems developed also resolve the confusion between handwritten numerals.  相似文献

Heat transfer enhancement in an evaporating thin liquid film utilizing a electric field under isothermal interfacial condition is presented. A new mathematical model subjected to van der Waals attractive forces, capillary pressure, and an electric field is developed to describe the heat transfer enhancement in the evaporating thin liquid film. The effect of the electrostatic field on the curvature of the thin film, evaporative flux, pressure gradient distribution, heat flux, and heat transfer coefficient in the thin film is presented. The results show that applying an electric field can enhance heat transfer in a thin liquid film significantly. In addition, utilizing electric fields on the evaporating film will be a way to expand the extended meniscus region to attain high heat transfer coefficients and high rates of heat flux.  相似文献

Abstract. In this paper we define subset bilinear time series models, and then describe an algorithm for the estimation of these models. It is also pointed out that for this class of non-linear time series models, it is possible to obtain optimal several step predictors. The estimation technique of these models is illustrated with respect to three time series, and the optimal several steps ahead forecasts of these time series models are calculated. A comparison of these forecasts is made with the forecasts obtained by the best linear autoregressive and threshold autoregressive models. The residuals obtained from the models are tested for independence and Gaussianity using higher order moments.  相似文献

For circulation in axi-symmetric (cylindrical) bubble columns, the recently developed mathematical model25,26 has been used along with the criterion of minimum circulation strength to determine the height of each circulation cell in a tall column. This is then used to derive a theoretical expression, first of its kind, for gas hold-up inside a bubble column. The predictions of this equation as well as the equation derived here for axial liquid velocity at column axis have been compared with available data and the comparison is found to be excellent for both the variables. An explicit relation is derived for the average liquid circulation velocity. The model is also used to derive an expression for liquid axial dispersion coefficient which compares almost exactly with Deckwer et al.'s4 correlation.

For circulation in two-dimensional bubble columns a new mathematical model is developed. The predictions of bubble envelope shape and bubble envelope area compare well with published data. The predictions of number of circulation cells in the horizontal direction also compare well with published data.  相似文献

Abstract. Several models have been proposed in recent years for analysing spatial data and also, to some extent, spatio‐temporal data. One of the important problems, namely the choice of an appropriate model for describing real data sets, remains unsolved. Here we consider the analysis of spatio‐temporal processes from which observations over space and time are available. We propose statistical tests for discriminating between space–time autoregressive processes and multivariate autoregressive processes. The sampling properties of the proposed tests are considered. We illustrate the methods with a real example. We use the above tests to find the best model to describe spatio‐temporal variations of hourly carbon monoxide measurements at four locations in London in January 2004.  相似文献

In the present work, we developed an artificial neural networks (ANN) model to predict and analyze the polycaprolactone fiber diameter as a function of 3D melt electrospinning process parameters. A total of 35 datasets having various combinations of electrospinning writing process variables (collector speed, tip to nozzle distance, applied pressure, and voltage) and resultant fiber diameter were considered for model development. The designed stand-alone ANN software extracts relationships between the process variables and fiber diameter in a 3D melt electrospinning system. The developed model could predict the fiber diameter with reasonable accuracy for both train (28) and test (7) datasets. The relative index of importance revealed the significance of process variables on the fiber diameter. Virtual melt spinning system with the mean values of the process variables identifies the quantitative relationship between the fiber diameter and process variables.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the nonparametric estimation of the higher order cumulant spectra of vector-valued stationary random fields onZ d by smoothing the periodograms, whereZ is the space of integers and the dimensiond1. We derive the asymptotic cumulant properties of the spectral estimates, and consider an application to multidimensional nonlinear systems identification. Compounds of the formula LiCo1−yCryO2 (0.0≤y≤0.20 and y=1.0) have been synthesized by high temperature solid-state reaction and were characterized by XRD and FT-IR. Hexagonal a and c lattice parameters increase with increasing y as expected from ionic size effects. Cyclic voltammograms reveal that the phase transformation occurring at x=0.5 in Li1−x(Co1−yCry)O2 is suppressed for y=0.05 and 0.10. Low-current (0.01 C; 1 C=140 mA g−1) galvanostatic charging curves show that the deintercalation voltage for y=0.05 and 0.10 decrease for a given x as compared to LiCoO2. Galvanostatic charge-discharge cycling of the Li(Co1−yCry)O2 cathodes at 0.14 C and 2.7-4.3 V (vs. Li) show that increasing amount of chromium content in the LiCoO2 lattice drastically reduces the amount of Li that can be reversibly cycled. Ex-situ XRD of the cycled cathodes show that slight cation-mixing occurs in the layered structure for y=0.05 and 0.10 and could be the reason for their poor electrochemical performance. Reversible Li intercalation/deintercalation is not possible in LiCrO2 in the voltage range 2.7-4.3 V.  相似文献
