A simulation model of electric arc

Aspects of construction of a Simulink model of electric arc are discussed. The model allows different problems to be solved that are connected both with investigations of processes occurring in the arc and in its power-supply sources and with tests in static and dynamic regimes, as well as with practical implementation of similar devices. The operating principle of the model is described.     

Photoconductivity in a magnetic field and photomagnetic effect in <Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>-HgCdTe graded-gap photodetecting film structures

The photomagnetic effect and photoconductivity in a magnetic field are studied at a liquid nitrogen temperature for the Voigt geometry on p-HgCdTe films with graded-gap boundary regions where the content of cadmium (x) is increased above its mole fraction in the central area of the structure with a uniform distribution of x. A case with dominating Shockley-Read recombination is considered. It is demonstrated on the basis of experimental data that the film structure in studying these effects can be replaced by the central area with an identical value of x, by introducing effective velocities of surface recombination and surface generation of excess charge carriers on the interfaces between the central area and the graded-gap regions.     

Oxidation of organosulfur compounds by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of niobium and vanadium peroxo complexes

New niobium(V) peroxo complexes containing aspargine and Schiff base ligands were synthesized, and their structures were solved by IR, NMR, and mass spectrometric methods. They were found to be catalytically active for the peroxidation of methyl phenyl sulfide and benzothiophene to the corresponding sulfoxide and sulfones. It was shown that vanadium(V) peroxo complexes with the same ligands are less active in the oxidation of methyl phenyl sulfide than the niobium complexes.     

Excitation of the 63 P 1 atomic level of mercury by pumping a mixture of mercury vapor and argon with a pulse-periodic nanosecond discharge

An experimental investigation was made of a pulse-periodic nanosecond discharge in a mixture of mercury vapor and argon. It is shown that the concentration of mercury atoms in the 6³ P ₁ state is around 50% of the total concentration. Pis’ma Zh. Tekh. Fiz. 24, 89–92 (March 12, 1998)
