Currently ab initio theory provides the ideal tensile and shear strength of the {111} cleavage plane in single-crystal silicon and diamond only for few selected planes and directions (‘geometries’). These values can be compared with the real strength of nano-, micro-, and single-crystalline devices to roughly judge their mechanical quality. A novel contact-free and notch-free optical laser method allows the measurement of the fracture strength with plane nonlinear surface acoustic waves (SAWs), providing a unique way to discriminate between tensile and shear stresses for well-defined crystallographic planes and directions in anisotropic materials. Calibration yields the critical fracture stress or strength for the geometries, which can be compared with theory. In the case of diamond mostly mechanistically unresolved mixed-mode failure has been studied for complex geometries. Nevertheless, the comparison of these critical failure stresses with the strength of the ideal lattice and the mode- and geometry-resolved fracture behavior of silicon provides new insight into the mechanical stability and failure behavior of diamond materials.  相似文献

A nonstandard approach to the fatigue strength of materials and structures is proposed, within the framework of the complete-diagram method. We have examined the type I collagen protein, RNA, and cDNA of 2 children with moderately severe (type IV) osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). They have in common a non-lethal form of OI with ambulatory potential, overmodification of type I collagen protein, and a substitution of serine for glycine in the collagen chain produced by one alpha 1(I) allele. The first child (Marini et al.: J Biol Chem 264:11893-11900, 1989) is now 7 years old, with the height of a 3-year-old. Her course includes significant remodeling of lower long bones and 4 femur fractures. She walks independently. A mishmatch was detected in her alpha 1(I) mRNA using RNA/RNA hybrids; it was demonstrated to be due to a G-->A point mutation in one allele of alpha 1(I), resulting in the substitution of serine for glycine 832. The second child is now 6 1/2 years old, with the height of 1 1/2-year-old. Her history includes significant bowing of femurs and tibias, 6 femur fractures, S-curve scoliosis, compression of all lumbar vertebrae, and limited short-distance walking with braces. Her alpha 1(I) mRNA has also been studied by RNA hybrid analysis; there is a single G-->A change in one alpha 1(I) allele causing the substitution of serine for gly 352. Both children have moderately severe OI. However, the serine substitution at gly 352 is associated with a more severe phenotype then is the serine substitution at gly 832. Compared to substitutions described in other cases of OI, the serine 352 is located in the middle of a cluster of cysteine substitutions associated with non-lethal OI.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Comparative equipment indices are given for transporting cement. An operating principle is proposed for a chamber feeder without aeration devices, i.e. with use of an injector for compressed air supply from openings directed at the bottom of the reception chamber. Material movement is demonstrated over an inclined plane with charging of a chamber feeder. Injector channel length, the dependence of channel length on its inclination and width of the sprayer channel slot, are determined.  相似文献

A piezoelectric sensor and a pancake coil sensor were used for broadband detection of laser-induced ultrasound in single-crystal aluminum and polycrystalline nickel. Pressure pulses with pronounced compression phases were induced by laser pulses of 5 ns duration from one side of the specimens and detected from the opposite side. A coupling layer of water was required for the piezoelectric method, whereas the pancake coil placed in the biasing permanent field of a cylindrical magnet ~0.25 T allowed noncontact detection. The signals detected by a piezoelectric transducer showed bipolar form and their spectra covered the range from 5 to 90 MHz. The signal measured in aluminum by a pancake coil was assigned to the eddy current sources and had single polarity. The peak-to-peak value of the signal in nickel was higher and had bipolar form because of the inverse magnetostrictive effect. The high-frequency limit detected by the pancake coil approached 200 MHz.  相似文献

The equations of Szendrei/Held for the radial crater growing process as a function of time can also be inverted to get the target strength Rt if the maximum crater radius rcm is known. With this method the strength was calculated for an aluminum target to 300 N/mm2 and for glass fiber reinforced plastic to 405 N/mm2, which are at least very reasonable values. By using these values for Rt, the comparison of the radial crater growth process with carefully arranged and analysed experiments by the Ioffe Institute is showing good agreements.  相似文献
