PURPOSE: To evaluate the normal appearance of fetal anatomy, the conspicuity of fetal organs, the reproducibility of images, and the limitations to image quality with the use of half-Fourier, single-shot rapid acquisition with relaxation enhancement (RARE) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-four fetuses of 49 pregnancies underwent MR imaging with the half-Fourier, single-shot RARE technique. Two reviewers attempted to identify 47 organs and anatomic regions in each fetus. Organ or region conspicuity, image quality, and the limitations of image quality were graded. RESULTS: Fetal anatomy was well depicted in fetuses over 20 weeks in gestational age. Fetal imaging was limited by gestational age of 20 weeks or less usually owing to the small size of the organ or region being evaluated and, less frequently, by motion. CONCLUSION: Half-Fourier, single-shot RARE MR imaging provided a detailed and reproducible evaluation of normal fetal anatomy, which can be used as a standard of reference in MR imaging of fetal anomalies.  相似文献

We demonstrate a refractive micr-optical system by using ion-exchange microlenses and microprisms, which are combined to generate a superposition of two shifted images. The microlenses, fabricated with field-assisted Ag-Na exchange, achieve diffraction-limited imaging with a single-lens system and with a double-lens system for a field of 800 μm × 800 μm. Furthermore, we demonstrate cascading of two separate differential-pair optical-thyristor arrays by transcribing the information of a source array onto a second destination array.  相似文献

Longitudinal multivariate mixed models were used to examine the correlates of change between memory and processing speed and the contribution of age and retest to such change correlates. Various age- and occasion-mixed models were fitted to 2 longitudinal data sets of adult individuals (N > 1,200). For both data sets, the results indicated that the correlation between the age slopes of memory and processing speed decreased when retest effects were included in the model. If retest effects existed in the data but were not modeled, the correlation between the age slopes was positively biased. The authors suggest that although the changes in memory and processing speed may be correlated over time, age alone does not capture such a covariation. The properties of mixed monolayer films of photochromic indolinospiropyrans and poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA), poly(vinyl stearate) (PVSt), and poly(2-vinyl pyridine) (P2VP) have been studied. It was found that reversible photoinduced changes in monolayer surface-pressure with time occurred in collapsed systems and in mixed films in which the photochrome had been forced out of the polymer monolayer. Mixed films of P2VP and a spiropyran of particular structure could have their inherent stability increased under the action of ultraviolet irradiation on aqueous subphases. This effect appeared to be related to the formation of a physically crosslinked photomerocyanine-polymer two-dimensional network.  相似文献

In the past, the term e-learning referred to any method of learning that used electronic delivery methods. With the advent of the Internet however, e-learning has evolved and the term is now most commonly used to refer to online courses. A multitude of systems are now available to manage and deliver learning content online. While these have proved popular, they are often single-user learning environments which provide little in the way of interaction or stimulation for the student. As the concept of lifelong learning now becomes a reality and thus more and more people are partaking in online courses, researchers are constantly exploring innovative techniques to motivate online students and enhance the e-learning experience. This article presents our research in this area and the resulting development of CLEV-R, a Collaborative Learning Environment with Virtual Reality. This web-based system uses Virtual Reality (VR) and multimedia and provides communication tools to support collaboration among students. In this article, we describe the features of CLEV-R, its adaptation for mobile devices and present the findings from an initial evaluation.  相似文献

We have shown previously that protein kinase A (PKA) subunit levels are regulated by activation of PKA or protein kinase C (PKC) in anterior pituitary cells. GnRH also influenced PKA subunit levels, suggesting that hormonal regulation occurs in gonadotrophs, and therefore, we have reexamined this question using the clonal gonadotrope-derived cell line (alphaT3-1 cells). Western blot analysis, using specific immunoaffinity purified immunoglobulins, revealed expression of catalytic (Cat) and regulatory type I (RI) and type II (RII) subunits of PKA in these cells. Activation of adenylyl cyclase (AC) with forskolin, or of PKC with tetradecanoyl phorbol acetate (TPA), caused a rapid (detectable at 0.5-1 h) and concentration-dependent loss of all PKA subunits. Forskolin (10-100 microM) reduced Cat and RI by 60% and RII by 30%, whereas TPA (0.1-1 microM) reduced Cat and RII by 50% and RI by 40%. Simultaneous activation of PKA and PKC caused the expected dose-dependent reductions in Cat, and the effects of forskolin or TPA were nearly additive. RI and RII were reduced similarly by 10 nM TPA, whereas 100 nM TPA tended to prevent the reduction of RI or RII caused by forskolin. GnRH, which activates phosphoinositidase C and not AC in these cells, caused a clear loss of Cat or RII at all concentrations tested and of RI at 0.1 nM. Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide 38, which acts via PVR-1 receptors to stimulate both phosphoinositidase C and AC in these cells, also caused a clear dose-dependent decrease in Cat, RI, and RII, although higher concentrations were needed for the latter effects. Together, the data demonstrate that catalytic and regulatory subunits of PKA are subject to both hormonal and receptor-independent regulation in alphaT3-1 cells, reinforcing the possibility that such effects occur in nonimmortalized gonadotropes. Whereas the effects of PKA activators very likely involve proteolytic degradation of the dissociated PKA holoenzyme, the effects of TPA and GnRH occur in the absence of cAMP elevation by unknown mechanisms. Whatever the mechanisms involved, the data reveal a mechanism for cross-talk between phosphoinositidase C and AC-mediated hormonal signals, in which PKC activation seems to play a pivotal role.  相似文献

With increasing numbers of general medical practitioners (GMPs) becoming purchasers of health care, providers of surgical services need to understand factors influencing GMP referrals. Using an anonymous postal questionnaire, criteria used by 400 randomly selected general medical practitioners to make referral decisions were assessed. Issues regarding the importance of waiting lists, cost, distance and communication were assessed, along with previous training and fundholding status. The findings of this study reveal that waiting list times for consultation and treatment, along with communication, are the most important criteria influencing referral. Cost, travel and literature from each specialty were the least important factors. General medical practitioners are shown, in the majority, to remain unaware of the range of conditions managed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons. A series of strategies are outlined, which might be used to broaden the referral base for maxillofacial surgery. The need for active education of practitioners is emphasised and the possible effects of regionalisation of the service is discussed.  相似文献

Two tumour cell clones, 6D1 and 4C2 cells, which are defective both in the major histocompatibility gene complex (MHC) class I expression and in the endogenous antigen presentation, are recovered with interferon (IFN)-gamma treatment. The present study describes the ultrastructure of these cells by using scanning and transmission electron microscopy in relation to the effect of IFN-gamma treatment. The general morphology of these cells was found to be similar to each other and comparable to that of a tumour cell clone, 4A1 cells, of the same origin, normal in MHC class I expression; they exhibited a fibroblast-like appearance and had many blebs on all the cell surfaces, with desmosome-like junctions between cells. On IFN-gamma treatment, surface fine blebs appeared less, and mitochondria became more densely stained. Expression of MHC class I molecules on the cell surface was much higher in the IFN-gamma treated 6D1 and 4C2 cells than in untreated cells, when estimated by immunoelectron microscopy. The addition of an epitope peptide to these cells did not enhance the class I expression, which differed from other antigen presentation-defective cells such as RMA-S cells, nor change the cell surface morphology.  相似文献

During pregnancy, zinc (Zn) levels in the rat fetal liver increase markedly. Why they do so or how the increase is regulated is unknown. We firstly investigated whether the increase occurs as a result of increased Zn transfer across the placenta and then tested whether the regulation occurred at the level of the microvillar membrane of the placenta or the fetal liver plasma membrane. Rats at different stages of gestation were injected with 7.5 microCi 65Zn in 100 microliters rat serum and killed after 1 h. 65Zn levels in the fetus remained constant at equivalent to the amount in 50 microliters maternal plasma per fetus until Day 18; at this time they increased to equivalent to 1.33 ml and then continued to increase until term. We isolated placental microvillar vesicles from placentas at each stage of gestation, characterized them, and measured Zn uptake. Zn uptake rates did not change during pregnancy. Similarly, we isolated vesicles from fetal liver plasma membrane and measured Zn uptake. Again, the uptake properties did not change during pregnancy. The data suggest that some other step in the transport process is rate limiting and that the increase in Zn levels in the fetal liver that occurs during pregnancy is possibly a result, rather than a cause, of metallothionein induction.  相似文献
