Sudanese unaccompanied minors were separated from their parents in childhood and lived apart from their families in refugee camps for close to a decade before being resettled in the United States. This phenomenological study examines the refugees’ experiences of living in American foster families after living in peer groups in the camps. Interviews with 18 young adults, 7 years after resettlement, revealed that nearly all of the youth struggled with parental authority initially, and nearly half of them changed placements because of relationship difficulties with their foster parents. Misunderstandings based on cultural differences often exacerbated conflicts. However, 15 of 18 youth currently had a positive relationship with at least 1 foster parent, sometimes with a parent from their second or third placement. Changing foster families is often considered a failure in the child welfare system, but several Sudanese youth reported that having supportive relationships helped them during the acculturation process whether those relationships developed during the first or last placement. Over the past few years, neural networks have exhibited remarkable results for various applications in machine learning and computer vision. Weight initialization is a significant step employed before training any neural network. The weights of a network are initialized and then adjusted repeatedly while training the network. This is done till the loss converges to a minimum value and an ideal weight matrix is obtained. Thus weight initialization directly drives the convergence of a network. Therefore, the selection of an appropriate weight initialization scheme becomes necessary for end-to-end training. An appropriate technique initializes the weights such that the training of the network is accelerated and the performance is improved. This paper discusses various advances in weight initialization for neural networks. The weight initialization techniques in the literature adopted for feed-forward neural network, convolutional neural network, recurrent neural network and long short term memory network have been discussed in this paper. These techniques are classified as (1) initialization techniques without pre-training, which are further classified into random initialization and data-driven initialization, (2) initialization techniques with pre-training. The different weight initialization and weight optimization techniques which select optimal weights for non-iterative training mechanism have also been discussed. We provide a close overview of different initialization schemes in these categories. This paper concludes with discussions on existing schemes and the future scope for research.
Since the days of the hunter-gatherer, food intake has been limited by its availability, and significant physical effort was involved in bringing it home. For the first time in our history, the society suffers from an excess of food, coupled with an increasing lack of physical activity. Thus, human will power is called for to limit intake, eat the right kind of foods, and do voluntary exercise in order to avoid obesity. Consequently, many commercial diets have proliferated, but maintaining a healthy weight and diet remains a daily struggle for many. A better understanding of the basic aspects of human diet vis-à-vis energy balance would help in this regard. Although chemical engineering science has so far been applied mainly to industrial problems to the great benefit of society, it can also inform many problems of day-to-day existence. Here, we provide an example of a simple analysis of diet and energy balance, which could help in improved understanding of personal nutrition and diet. With the use of a single fitted parameter, the model can adequately describe weight change in men, women, and in mice. 相似文献
A new photocatalytic material developed by supporting TiO2 in combination with transition metal ion like cobalt and heteropolyacid (HPA) on the surface is facilitating enhanced photoreduction of water and methyl orange. Zeolites being a solid acid play an important role in the electron transfer reaction, facilitated by the Lewis acid sites in the form of aluminium ions. In the present work, four different zeolite matrices namely, NaY zeolite, ultrastable zeolite Y, beta zeolite and titanium silicate-1 have been used for the synthesis of new photocatalytic materials. These materials have been evaluated for water splitting by an initial screening procedure using methyl orange photoreduction. The photocatalyst containing Na Y has emerged as a potential photocatalyst with hydrogen evolution rate of 2730 μmol/h/g of TiO2. Hydrogen evolution was not observed for the composite photocatalysts synthesized using the other zeolite matrices. It has been observed that physico-chemical properties like Si/Al ratio, acidity and basicity of the zeolite support have a tremendous influence on the photoreduction property of these zeolite matrices. 相似文献
