Recently, a commercial version of a residential solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system with a flat tubular cell has been developed. However, the system cost still remains very high, which is a barrier to its widespread use. In this study, the potential for cost reductions in SOFC stack production was investigated in order to contribute to the viability of the widespread use of such residential SOFC systems in future. A cost analysis of 700 W SOFC stack production based on a process integration modeling was conducted. The present bottom–up approach enabled us to perform a sensitivity analysis with a variety of parameters in terms of cell design, the production process and cell performance. This allowed us to investigate the effects of these factors on the production cost, thereby revealing the quantitative impact of each technological improvement on the cost reduction potential. The present analysis also revealed innovation pathways which could result in technology scenarios where residential SOFC systems could reach a break-even point in comparison with the baseload electricity cost. The analysis of the cost reduction potential presented here provides a useful viewpoint for developing a research strategy for state-of-the-art SOFC technology.  相似文献

To establish the characteristics of an optimized pulmonary fibrosis model, male ICR mice were given 4 weekly sc injections of 150 or 0 mg/kg monocrotaline (MCT) and maintained without further treatment for 33 wk (Experiment 1). The final mortality in the MCT group was 64%. Epithelial cells with large bizarre nuclei and an increased incidence of alveolar/bronchiolar hyperplasias were typically observed. In areas of pulmonary fibrosis, the PCNA labeling index (LI) in the alveolar/airway epithelium was significantly elevated. DNA content analysis demonstrated a larger range (4-8C) for the ploidy pattern of alveolar epithelium with large bizarre nuclei than in the normal epithelium (2C). In Experiment 2, the relationship between pulmonary fibrosis development and lung tumorigenesis was investigated. Mice were given 4 weekly sc injections of 150 and 0 mg/kg MCT, followed by a single i.p. injection of 1,000 or 500 mg/kg urethane (UR) on week 7, then maintained without further treatment for an additional 15 wk. UR following MCT-induced inflammatory changes, fibrosis, and epithelia with large bizarre nuclei but no tumorous lesions, in spite of the fact that treatment with UR alone caused a high incidence of pulmonary tumors. Hyperplasias were seen in all groups, but the multiplicity in the combined groups tended to be decreased by the MCT pretreatment. The present study demonstrated that this new protocol is more suitable than previous one for the experimental production of pulmonary fibrosis. Furthermore, the induction of lung tumors by UR was completely depressed in mice with MCT-induced pulmonary fibrosis, suggesting that alveolar epithelial cells are resistant to this lung carcinogen under these conditions.  相似文献

A preliminary attempt at experimental induction of pulmonary fibrosis in which male ICR mice received 15 weekly sc injections of 200 or 100 mg/kg monocrotaline (MC) revealed that most animals treated with the larger dose died of severe interstitial pneumonia, whereas those given 100 mg/kg exhibited only relatively slight lung injury. Based on these results, male mice were administered sc injections of 200 and 100 mg/kg MC once a week for 9 and 18 times, respectively, and then maintained without any further treatment until week 28 after the start. Mice treated with 200 mg/kg MC showed severe pulmonary damage and died by week 25. Mortalities also occurred in the 100-mg group from week 16, with 11 of 40 animals surviving at the termination of the experiment. Histologically, both dose groups demonstrated severe interstitial pneumonia and/or pulmonary fibrosis. Ultrastructurally, inflammatory edema possibly attributable to injuries of alveolar capillary endothelial cells was observed in the high-dose group at week 8, and there was a remarkable increase in collagen fibers in alveolar septa in this group thereafter. The present study results suggest that lung injuries induced by MC treatment progress to irreversible lung fibrosis and that this animal model may have advantage for studying the pathogenesis of lung cancers in patients with pulmonary fibrosis.  相似文献

Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) and polyoxyethylene lauryl ether (POLE) are the major surfactants in washing detergents. In the present study, we isolated surfactant-resistant bacteria from soil samples collected from a sports ground and a farm field. The samples were treated with 2.0% LAS or POLE at 25°C for 30 min and cultivated on agar plates at 25°C for several days, after which manifold bacterial colonies were isolated. Thereafter, we tested the ability of each bacterial isolate to resist the antibacterial activity of the surfactant. Ten LAS-resistant strains were isolated, and all were found to be Gram-negative bacteria such as Enterobacter and Pseudomonas. On the other hand, 18 POLE-resistant strains were isolated, of which 14 were Gram-positive bacteria including Bacillus and Microbacterium. Notably, one POLE-resistant strain was identified as Bacillus cereus, a potential causative agent for foodborne illness. The genera of LAS- and POLE-resistant bacteria did not overlap. Therefore, the combination of LAS and POLE could be more effective to eliminate soil bacteria from clothes and/or daily necessities.  相似文献

The effects of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) feeding on methane production and rumen fermentation were investigated by repeatedly using 3 Holstein nonlactating cows with rumen fistulas. The cows were fed a concentrate and hay diet (6:4 ratio) for 4 wk (control period) followed by the same diet with a CNSL-containing pellet for the next 3 wk (CNSL period). Two trials were conducted using CNSL pellets blended with only silica (trial 1) or with several other ingredients (trial 2). Each pellet type was fed to cows to allow CNSL intake at 4g/100kg of body weight per day. Methane production was measured in a respiration chamber system, and energy balance, nutrient digestibility, and rumen microbial changes were monitored. Methane production per unit of dry matter intake decreased by 38.3 and 19.3% in CNSL feeding trials 1 and 2, respectively. Energy loss as methane emission decreased from 9.7 to 6.1% (trial 1) and from 8.4 to 7.0% (trial 2) with CNSL feeding, whereas the loss to feces (trial 1) and heat production (trial 2) increased. Retained energy did not differ between the control and CNSL periods. Digestibility of dry matter and gross energy decreased with CNSL feeding in trial 1, but did not differ in trial 2. Feeding CNSL caused a decrease in acetate and total short-chain fatty acid levels and an increase in propionate proportion in both trials. Relative copy number of methyl coenzyme-M reductase subunit A gene and its expression decreased with CNSL feeding. The relative abundance of fibrolytic or formate-producing species such as Ruminococcus flavefaciens, Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens, and Treponema bryantii decreased, but species related to propionate production, including Prevotella ruminicolla, Selenomonas ruminantium, Anaerovibrio lipolytica, and Succinivibrio dextrinosolvens, increased. If used in a suitable formulation, CNSL acts as a potent methane-inhibiting and propionate-enhancing agent through the alteration of rumen microbiota without adversely affecting feed digestibility.  相似文献

Magnetic hyperthermia is a safe method for cancer therapy. A gap-type alternating current magnetic field (100 kHz, 100–300 Oe) is expected to be clinically applicable for magnetic hyperthermia. In this study, magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) varying in size from 8 to 413 nm were synthesized using a chemical coprecipitation and an oxidation precipitation method to find the optimum particle size that shows a high heating efficiency in an applied magnetic field. The particles' in vitro heating efficiency in an agar phantom at an MNP concentration of 58 mg Fe/ml was measured in an applied magnetic field. In a magnetic field of 120 Oe, the temperature increase (ΔT) of the agar phantom within 30 s was 9.3 °C for MNPs with a size of 8 nm, but was less for the other samples, while in a magnetic field of 300 Oe, ΔT = 55 °C for MNPs with a size of 24 nm, and ΔT = 25 °C for MNPs with a size of 8 nm. The excellent heating efficiency of MNPs with a size of 24 nm in a magnetic field of 300 Oe may be due to a combination of the effects of both relaxation and hysteresis losses of the magnetic particles. It is believed that MNPs with a size of 8–24 nm will be useful for the in situ hyperthermia treatment of cancer.  相似文献

A 13-week subchronic oral toxicity study of phaffia colour was performed in both sexes of F344 rats by feeding of CRF-1 powder diet containing 0, 0.2, 0.6, 1.7 and 5%. Rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, each consisting of 10 males and 10 females. No animals died during the administration period. There were no treatment-related changes in body weight gain, hematological and blood biochemical examination. No treatment-related histopathological changes were also observed in any dosed groups. These findings indicate that the treatment of 5% phaffia colour in diet for 13 weeks does not cause any toxicological changes in rats.  相似文献

A 13-week subacute oral toxicity study of pectin digests was performed in both sexes of F344 rats. Water containing 0, 0.15, 0.5, 1.5 or 5% pectin digests was fed to 10 males and 10 females per group to detect its toxicity. No animals died during the administration period. Body weight gain was suppressed in male of the 5% group compared with the 0% group. Serum biochemistry analysis revealed a significant increase in BUN in male group treated with 5% and increases in CRN in male group treated with 1.5% or more. The weight of liver was significantly increased in female groups treated with 1.5% or more. Histopathologically, no treatment-related damage was observed in any dosed groups. Based on these results, the NOEL of pectin digests for both sexes in F344 rats was considered to be 0.5% in drinking water (male 545, female 657 mg/kg/day).  相似文献
