We have measured AC susceptibility of bcc solid3 He in a two orders of magnitude with a wider range than in the previous study. For the sample of 23.0 cm3/mol, the relaxation time between the Zeeman and exchange reservoirs in the paramagnetic state is on the order of 10 ms, while the relaxation time in the ordered state decreases down to one hundredth of the value in the paramagnetic state. This small relaxation time is related to the process of spin wave relaxation in the ordered state.  相似文献

A previous study has shown that the adhesion between the film and substrate of film‐insert injection‐molded poly(propylene) (PP) film/PP substrate was evident with the increases in barrel temperature and injection holding pressure. In this second part of the research work, the crystallinity at the interfacial region (i.e., region between the film and the injected substrate) was extensively studied using FTIR imaging, polarized light microscopy, and DSC in an attempt to determine the level of influence that crystallinity has on the interface and bulk mechanical properties. Consequently, a more thorough and clearer picture of the influence of the inserted film on the interfacial crystallinity and subsequently the substrate mechanical properties, such as peel strength and impact strength, has been revealed. The initial proposition that crystallinity could enhance film–substrate interfacial bonding has been confirmed, judging from the higher peel strength with increasing crystallinity at the interfacial region. Nevertheless, the change in crystallinity was not only confined to the interfacial region. With the film acting as heat‐transfer inhibitor between the injected resin and the mold wall, the total crystal structure of the substrate was substantially altered, which subsequently affected the bulk mechanical properties. The lower impact strength of film‐insert injection‐molded samples compared to that of samples without film inserts provided evidence of how the film could impart inferior properties to the substrate. The difference in cooling rate between the substrate and film might also cause other defects such as warpage and/or residual stress build‐up within the product. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Adsorption isotherms of pigments from alkali-refined oils (rapeseed, soybean, wheatgerm, safflower, corn, cottonseed and sunflower) were measured to investigate the applicability of the Langmuir and Freundlich equations and to elucidate the adsorption characteristics of pigments on sepiolites and standard activated clay. The Freundlich equation was more applicable to the experimental adsorption isotherms. The equilibrium amount adsorbed, acidity, pore size distribution and inflection of the Freundlich isotherms could be explained by assuming that pigments were adsorbed on the stronger acid sites in smaller pores at low concentration, and then in the larger ones when the concentration increased. The amount adsorbed increased with a rise in adsorption temperatures from 70 to 110°C, and the heat of adsorption was below 10 kcal/mol. The results indicate that pigments were physically adsorbed on the acid sites activated at higher adsorption temperatures.  相似文献

Because Japanese cedar pollen (JCP) contains beta-1,3-d-glucan (BG), there is concern that its lingering presence in the atmosphere, especially during its scattering period, may cause false positives in the factor-G-based Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) assay used to test for deep mycosis (i.e., G-test). Hence, we examined whether the LAL assay would react positively with substances contained in JCP by using the G-test to measure JCP particles and extracts. BG was purified from the JCP extract on a BG-specific affinity column, and the percentage extractability was measured using three different BG-specific quantitative methods. The G-test detected 0.4 pg BG in a single JCP particle and 10 fg from a single particle in the extract. The percentage extractability of JCP-derived BG was not significantly different among the three quantitative methods. As the JCP particles should technically have been removed during serum separation, they should be less likely to be a direct false-positive factor. However, given that the LAL-assay-positive substances in the JCP extract were not distinguishable by the three BG-specific quantitative methods, we conclude that they may cause the background to rise. Therefore, in Japan false positives arising from JCP contamination should be considered when testing patients for deep mycosis.  相似文献

Highly enantioselective addition of diketene to aldehydes was achieved by using novel Schiff base—titanium alkoxide complexes. Up to 92% ee of 5-hydroxy-3-oxoesters was obtained. We carried out Brownian dynamics simulations to investigate the mechanism of chain length recognition observed in the formation of inclusion complexes (ICs) between cyclodextrins (CDs) and polymer chains. In our simulations, we used rings and chains as models to represent CDs and polymer chains, respectively. We used two types of chains with different lengths to determine which chain was preferred by the rings to form ICs. At low concentration of rings, we observed that almost all the rings formed ICs with the long chains. Chain length recognition could be reproduced in our simulation, and it occurred because of the difference in the inclusion time between the long chains and the short chains in the ICs. On the other hand, at high concentration of rings, the number of rings forming ICs with the long chains increased, and pseudo-polyrotaxanes (PPRXs) were formed. ICs were also formed with the short chains, because the inclusion time for each ring contained in the PPRXs reduced with an increase in the number of rings therein, and then, the dissociated rings formed ICs with the short chains. As a result, chain length recognition was not observed. From these results, we conclude that the difference in the inclusion time between the rings and the chains controls chain length recognition.  相似文献

We have measured the AC magnetic susceptibility and static magnetization of high-density bcc solid 3 He through the nuclear-ordering transition. The susceptibility in the paramagnetic state strongly depends on the frequency of the measuring field. Near the transition temperature a sharp peak in the real part of the AC susceptibility and an abrupt depression in the imaginary part are observed. The transition temperature indicated by the AC susceptibility is higher than that derived from static magnetization. We analyzed the new behavior in the susceptibility in terms of the spin relaxation between the Zeeman system and the exchange system. The relaxation time in the energy flow in the two systems is in the range of milliseconds in the paramagnetic state, and decreases drastically by two orders of magnitude in the ordered state. The relaxation time in the paramagnetic state is interpreted as due to exchange narrowing, while in the ordered state is explained to be the drift time of the spin wave limited by the size of the sample grown in the pores of the sintered silver. The ordering temperature is given as a function of molar volume in the entire range of the bcc phase.  相似文献

We report on the use of ultra-thin cross-linked polymer films to coat carbon nanotubes (CNTs). When n-dodecyl glyceryl itaconate, an amphiphilic monomer, and N,N'-methylenebis(acrylamide), a cross-linker, were mixed with CNTs, an ultra-thin cross-linked DGI polymer film formed on the surface of the individual CNTs by self-assembly polymerization. The CNTs modified with the cross-linked DGI polymer film are highly soluble in water with a multi-walled CNT concentration of up to 1 wt.%, providing an attractive approach for preparing stable, mono-dispersed CNT solutions.  相似文献

Soil nutrient deficiency has hampered increased agricultural production in the savannas of northern Nigeria. It has been observed that inorganic fertilizer (IF) has the potential to reverse the situation. However, low adoption among the farmers has characterized IF in the savannas of northern Nigeria. The application rates have also fallen far lower than the rate recommended by research and extension, resulting in low crop yields. This paper investigates the factors that influence farmers' decision to adopt or not to adopt IF and to evaluate the elasticity of adoption. This information will help to prioritize the factors that affect IF adoption decisions and suggest pathways for effective promotion of IF. About 49% of the survey farmers adopted IF and the application rate ranges from 5.6 to 64.4 kg ha–1 (with a mean of 24.1 kg ha–1). The probability of adoption increases with increased targeting of: farmers from the Guinea savanna agroecological zone, younger farmers, better educated farmers, food secure farmers and net sellers of food grains, farmers who have diversified into many crops, farmers who perceive increase in the fertilizer needs of their crops, and farmers who apply large quantities of organic manure. Among others, the estimates of elasticity of adoption indicate that a 1% increase in the number of farmers who perceive an increase in the fertilizer needs of their crops results in 3.23% increase in the probability of IF adoption. The paper concludes with policy implications for strategies aimed at promoting IF in the savannas of Nigeria and similar ecologies elsewhere.  相似文献
