In the present paper the Natvig measures of component importance for repairable systems, and its extended version are analyzed for two three-component systems and a bridge system. The measures are also applied to an offshore oil and gas production system. According to the extended version of the Natvig measure a component is important if both by failing it strongly reduces the expected system uptime and by being repaired it strongly reduces the expected system downtime. The results include a study of how different distributions affect the ranking of the components. All numerical results are computed using discrete event simulation. In a companion paper [Huseby AB, Eide KA, Isaksen SL, Natvig B, Gåsemyr, J. Advanced discrete event simulation methods with application to importance measure estimation. 2009, submitted for publication] the advanced simulation methods needed in these calculations are described.  相似文献

A commodity-type graphics card (GPU) is used to simulate nonlinear water waves described by a system of balance laws called the shallow-water system. To solve this hyperbolic system we use explicit high-resolution central-upwind schemes, which are particularly well suited for exploiting the parallel processing power of the GPU. In fact, simulations on the GPU are found to run 15–30 times faster than on a CPU. The simulated cases involve dry-bed zones and nontrivial bottom topographies, which are real challenges to the robustness and accuracy of the discretization.  相似文献

Transport of polymeric Igs (pIgA and pIgM) across secretory epithelia is mediated by the polymeric Ig receptor (pIgR), also known as the transmembrane secretory component. Compared with local production, external transfer of pIgA is favored 6- to 12-fold over that of pIgM on a molar basis. This transfer may be modulated at several levels: diffusion through matrix and basement membranes, ligand affinity for pIgR, and efficiency of epithelial transcytosis. To investigate these possibilities, we compared the ability of Madin-Darby canine kidney epithelial cells transfected with human pIgR to transport pIgA vs pIgM from the basolateral to the apical face, and examined the inhibitory effect of various filter types used for mounting of the monolayer. Binding data showed that pIgR bound pIgA and pIgM with similar affinity. Internalization of both ligands was fast and took place at similar rates; transcytosis was also found to be equally efficient at the molar level. Thus, the overall rate of transport across the epithelial monolayer was comparable for pIgA and pIgM, and was not further enhanced by ligand stimulation over a 20-fold increased concentration level. Conversely, pIgA had a considerable advantage over pIgM in passive diffusion assays performed in vitro. Moreover, in situ immunofluorescence staining showed retention of IgM over IgA and IgG in mucosal basement membrane zones, in contrast to the preferential epithelial uptake of IgA and, less so, IgM. The biologic consequences of the highly efficient epithelial pIg transport, and the diffusion advantage of pIgA over pIgM, are discussed in relation to the evolution and function of secretory Abs.  相似文献

A digital cellular mobile radio system has been under development in Europe since 1982 under the coordination of the working group CEPT GSM (groupe speciale mobile). In a recent coordinated experiment, listening opinion tests were performed on the speech output of six candidate 16 kb/s speech coding schemes for this system: one regular-pulse excited coder, one multiple-excited coder, and four subband coders. For comparison purposes, test conditions from a companded cellular FM system currently in operation were included in the experiment. The six codecs were companded in terms of subjective quality, transmission delay, and ease of implementation. In this overall comparison, no single codec was superior in all respects. However, the regular-phase-excited linear predictive coder, which provided the best speech quality, had acceptable complexity and delay and was singled out for further improvement. Clustering algorithms (i.e., Gaussian mixture models, k-means) tackle the problem of grouping a set of elements in such a way that elements from the same group (or cluster) have more similar properties to each other than to those elements in other clusters. This simple concept turns out to be the basis in complex algorithms from many application areas, including sequence analysis and genotyping in bioinformatics, medical imaging, antimicrobial activity, market research, social networking, etc. However, as the data volume continues to increase, the performance of clustering algorithms is heavily influenced by the memory subsystem. In this paper, we propose a novel and efficient implementation of Lloyd’s k-means clustering algorithm to substantially reduce data movement along the memory hierarchy. Our contributions are based on the fact that the vast majority of processors are equipped with powerful Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) instructions that are, in most cases, underused. SIMD improves the CPU computational power and, if used wisely, can be seen as an opportunity to improve on the application data transfers by compressing/decompressing the data, specially for memory-bound applications. Our contributions include a SIMD-friendly data layout organization, in-register implementation of key functions and SIMD-based compression. We demonstrate that using our optimized SIMD-based compression method, it is possible to improve the performance and energy of k-means by a factor of 4.5x and 8.7x, respectively, for a i7 Haswell machine, and 22x and 22.2x for Xeon Phi: KNL, running a single thread.  相似文献

In Norway, the work on multimodal travel information services is based on ARKTRANS, the national framework architecture for multimodal intelligent transportation systems (ITS). ARKTRANS is harmonised across all transport modes, and arranges for services supporting all phases of door-to-door travel. The authors describe the process towards such services and how they are enabled by ARKTRANS. As a result of ARKTRANS, the experience gained in pilot projects providing new and improved travel information services can be transferred into generic knowledge and used in national, regional and local travel planners. Stakeholder involvement, use of existing solutions and the iterative evolution of services are described as well as the use of the architecture  相似文献

A risk-based approach to flammable gas detector spacing   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Flammable gas detectors allow an operating company to address leaks before they become serious, by automatically alarming and by initiating isolation and safe venting. Without effective gas detection, there is very limited defense against a flammable gas leak developing into a fire or explosion that could cause loss of life or escalate to cascading failures of nearby vessels, piping, and equipment. While it is commonly recognized that some gas detectors are needed in a process plant containing flammable gas or volatile liquids, there is usually a question of how many are needed. The areas that need protection can be determined by dispersion modeling from potential leak sites. Within the areas that must be protected, the spacing of detectors (or alternatively, number of detectors) should be based on risk. Detector design can be characterized by spacing criteria, which is convenient for design - or alternatively by number of detectors, which is convenient for cost reporting. The factors that influence the risk are site-specific, including process conditions, chemical composition, number of potential leak sites, piping design standards, arrangement of plant equipment and structures, design of isolation and depressurization systems, and frequency of detector testing. Site-specific factors such as those just mentioned affect the size of flammable gas cloud that must be detected (within a specified probability) by the gas detection system. A probability of detection must be specified that gives a design with a tolerable risk of fires and explosions. To determine the optimum spacing of detectors, it is important to consider the probability that a detector will fail at some time and be inoperative until replaced or repaired. A cost-effective approach is based on the combined risk from a representative selection of leakage scenarios, rather than a worst-case evaluation. This means that probability and severity of leak consequences must be evaluated together. In marine and offshore facilities, it is conventional to use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling to determine the size of a flammable cloud that would result from a specific leak scenario. Simpler modeling methods can be used, but the results are not very accurate in the region near the release, especially where flow obstructions are present. The results from CFD analyses on several leak scenarios can be plotted to determine the size of a flammable cloud that could result in an explosion that would generate overpressure exceeding the strength of the mechanical design of the plant. A cloud of this size has the potential to produce a blast pressure or flying debris capable of causing a fatality or subsequent damage to vessels or piping containing hazardous material. In cases where the leak results in a fire, rather than explosion, CFD or other modeling methods can estimate the size of a leak that would cause a fire resulting in subsequent damage to the facility, or would prevent the safe escape of personnel. The gas detector system must be capable of detecting a gas release or vapor cloud, and initiating action to prevent the leak from reaching a size that could cause injury or severe damage upon ignition.  相似文献

Prognostic factors for chronic neck pain were identified in a prospective Norwegian insurance cohort comprising 636 persons with minor or moderate traffic injuries. One questionnaire was used at baseline and another at 3 years post-injury. Daily severe or very severe neck pain at three years follow up was defined as chronic neck pain. Eight significant independent prognostic factors for chronic neck pain were identified: (1) rear-end or frontal and rear-end collision, odds ratio (OR): 4.10 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.72-10.82); (2) neck and/or shoulder pain before the accident, OR: 2.38 (95% CI: 1.07-5.37); (3) post-accident (a) memory and concentration problems, OR: 4.62 (95% CI: 1.99-11.20), (b) bodily tension, OR: 3.43 (95% CI: 1.49-8.42), (c) difficulties to climb stairs, OR: 5.03 (95% CI: 1.77-14.95), (d) difficulties to bend forward, OR: 4.85 (95% CI: 2.06-11.79), (e) difficulties to do heavy labour, OR: 3.70 (95% CI: 1.24-11.64); (4) beliefs in future work disability, OR: 2.64 (95% CI: 1.11-6.48). The results indicate that development of chronic neck pain is influenced by pre-accident neck and/or shoulder pain, the impact of the collision, as well as post-accident symptoms, perceived impaired function and pessimism for the future ability to work.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Hypoxic tumors are frequently resistant to radiation therapy. Polyethylene glycol conjugated bovine hemoglobin (PEG-Hb) was tested for its ability to increase oxygen tension in the hypoxic rat osteogenic sarcoma UMR-106, murine Lewis lung carcinoma LL2 and rat gliosarcoma 9L. In addition, PEG-Hb was tested as an adjunct for radiotherapy in UMR-106 and human prostate carcinoma PC-3 solid tumors. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Rodents bearing established subcutaneous tumors were intravenously administered PEG-Hb. Tumor surface tissue oxygen tension was measured by both OxySpot and OxyMap systems, which utilize the same phosphorescence quenching method. RESULTS: A time-dependent rise in oxygen tension was noted, and the maximum tissue oxygen tensions were observed two hours post PEG-Hb administration, and sustained for at least 2 hours. Following a single dose radiation of 4 Gray, osteogenic sarcoma tumors in the PEG-Hb treated group showed dramatic regression (complete remission occurred in 100% of the high dose PEG-Hb treated rats), as compared to control (Ringer's lactate) group tumors that showed continued aggressive growth. All PEG-Hb plus radiation treated animals bearing human prostate carcinoma (PC-3) showed significant tumor growth delay compared to both control (Ringer's lactate) and irradiation only treated animals. CONCLUSION: PEG-Hb increased tumor oxygen content and improved the effectiveness of radiotherapy in these rodent models.  相似文献
