The esterification of cellulose hydroxyl groups with natural carboxylic acids in mild conditions represents an adequate pathway in obtaining cellulose derivatives with different useful properties. In this article, authors report the synthesis of new mixed ester of cellulose and cellulose acetate nicotinate (CAN) , in a homogenous medium using DMF as solvent, cellulose acetate (CA) as starting cellulosic material, and nicotinic acid as an esterification agent in the presence of p-toluenesulfonyl chloride and pyridine. FTIR and NMR techniques were used to prove the binding of nicotinoyl group at free hydroxyl groups of CA. The obtained CAN was electrospun by electrospinning technique to obtain adsorbent ultrafine fibers, evidenced by SEM images, with high specific surface area. Monolayer Langmuir and empirical Leundrich isotherms were used to assess the adsorption capacity for rhodamine B dye of electrospun CAN in comparison with that of electrospun CA used as starting material. Langmuir isotherm led to a better assessment of experimental data suggesting that the adsorption is mainly determined by hydrogen bonds formed between carboxylic OH hydrogen bonding donor and pyridine N hydrogen bonding acceptor. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The scope of the present work is to study the biodegradability behavior of several novel heterocyclic poly(ether urethanes) when their hard segments are subjected to exposure to the Alternaria tenuissima fungus. The heterocyclic poly(ether urethanes) were chain‐extended with various pyridine derivatives that had different functional groups placed in different positions on the pyridine rings. Different ratios of the reactive components were also used. The measurements obtained by the use of the attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed the different structural changes that occurred after exposure to fungi. The degradation process was analyzed through measurement of the mechanical properties and surface morphology evolution by scanning electron microscopy. The obtained results show that the nature and design of the functional groups on the pyridine ring determine the strength of the cohesion linkages that in turn influence different degradation behaviors under exposure to fungi. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Mixed‐interpenetrated polymeric networks based on sodium alginate (ALG) and poly(N‐isopropylacryl amide) (PNIPAAm) covalently cross‐linked with N,N'‐methylenebisacrylamide are studied for their biocompatibility, nontoxicity, and biodegradability aiming their application in drug delivery. The presence of drug‐polymeric matrix interactions and the distribution of the drug in the polymeric network for theophylline‐loaded ALG/PNIPAAm hydrogels are also investigated by spectroscopic and microscopic methods. The quantitative evaluation of theophylline loaded hydrogels performed by NIR‐CI technique shows a better drug entrapment and a higher homogeneity of the samples with increased alginate content. The thermal behavior of the hydrogels is significantly modified by theophylline presence. The application of the ALG/PNIPAAm hydrogels as carriers for sustained drug release formulations was assessed by the theophylline release tests performed both by in vitro and in vivo studies. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Structural and optical properties of ZnO thin films (200 nm thickness) deposited using magnetron sputtering technique are influenced by structural defects. Therefore, we applied various heating treatments in order to control and improve the crystallinity of the samples. These treatments were realized in air at temperatures of 350 °C, 550 °C and 700 °C respectively, each for a duration of 1 h. The properties of the samples were investigated both before and after the heating treatment. Modern methods like X-ray Diffraction, Atomic Force Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy were used to analyze the structure and morphology of the heated ZnO thin films. These heating treatments may be held responsible for rearrangements in the morphology of the thin films. Thus, it was observed that an increase of porosity and agglomeration of the crystallites is followed by an increase in the size of the crystallites. Inter-crystalline borders will migrate determining a coalescence of several crystallites during the heating process, as well. As a consequence, an increase of the band gap width from 3.26 eV to 3.30 eV (at 350 °C) and 3.32 eV (at 550 °C) respectively, occurred.  相似文献

Temperature dependences of electric conductivity and thermoelectric power of some recently synthesized organic compounds, 4-tert-butylcalix[4]arene derivatives, are studied. Thin-film samples (d = 0.10–0.40 μm) spin-coated from chloroform solutions onto glass substrates were used. Organic films with reproducible electron transport properties can be obtained if, after deposition, they are submitted to a heat treatment within temperature range of 295–575 K.  相似文献

Novel polysulfone (PSU)/NiFe2O4 nanocomposites with good magneto‐dielectric properties were prepared in a simple and cost‐effective manner. Nickel ferrite nanoparticles exhibit a cubic spinel phase without any impurity phases according to X‐ray diffraction characterization. Transmission electron microscopy images of the nanoparticles showed a tetragonal particle shape with average particle size of 17–30 nm. The thermal stability of PSU proved to remain unaffected by nanoparticle concentration in the composite material. The emission spectra of the PSU/NiFe2O4 nanocomposites present a broad emission band located at 370 nm due to free exciton recombination. The composites exhibit hysteresis loops of a ferrimagnetic nature and good dielectric properties. Coercivity value measured at room temperature is 20.64 and 24.98 Oe and the squareness (Mr/Ms) is 0.290 and 0.225 for both polymer composite samples (4 and 24 vol% Ni ferrite). The formalism of the dielectric loss has been used to estimate the dipolar relaxations expressed by γ‐ and β‐relaxation processes. The presence of Ni ferrite nanoparticles in the PSU matrix increases the activation energy of secondary relaxations, which means a reduction of the molecular mobility in the nanocomposites as compared to PSU. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Alginate particles, crosslinked by calcium ions, have a number of potential biopharmaceutical industry applications due to the biocompatibility of the materials used and formed. One such use is as microcarriers for cell attachment, growth and then detachment without the use of proteolytic enzymes. A straightforward and reproducible method for producing uniform calcium alginate particles with controllable median diameters which employs membrane emulsification and internal gelation (solid particles contained in the dispersed phase) is demonstrated, as well as functionalisation of the resulting beads with amine terminated poly N-isopropylacrylamide (pNIPAM) to form temperature responsive particles, by taking advantage of the electrostatic interaction between the carboxyl groups of the alginate and amino groups of the modified pNIPAM. Cell attachment, growth and detachment capabilities of these core–shell structures were assessed and successfully demonstrated by using phase contrast microscopy and fluorescent staining with calcein-AM and ethidium homodimer-1.  相似文献

Purpose

Cataract surgery can lead to the temporary development or worsening of dry eye symptoms. Contributing factors may include corneal incisions, agents used before, during or after surgery, light from the operating microscope, disruption of ocular surface tissues and inflammatory processes. The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of light exposure on conjunctival fibroblasts in order to determine whether light has an effect on wound healing closure, assuming that operating microscopes might have an effect on the ocular surface.

Method

An in vitro scratch assay was performed on porcine conjunctival fibroblasts. Ten minutes of light exposure from a light microscope with a halogen bulb was performed after the scratch assay. Fibroblasts were kept in culture for 48?hours post-exposure and the wound closure rates were visualized by live/dead staining. The fibroblasts which were exposed to light were compared to those without light exposure. Cell viability was also analysed by MTT assay.

Results

A Slower wound closure rate was found when fibroblasts were exposed to light compared to the non-light exposed controls. Cell viability reduced by 20% with light exposure compared to controls in p3 cells (p?=?0.04; however, the trend was not observed with p4 and p5 cells (p?>?0.05).

Conclusions

These results suggest that light exposure might be one of the possible contributory factors for dry eye after ophthalmic surgery. Further evaluation of light effects should be carried out with different ocular surface cells.  相似文献

ZnO-based ceramic nanofibers (ZnO-based CNFs) have been recognized as excellent materials that display specific structural features (phase morphology and surface topology) and unique functions/properties including magnetic, electrical, optical, sensing and catalytic abilities, which are specific for one-dimensional architectures. These aspects contribute to the exploitation of such materials in applications that involve development of sensors, photocatalytic systems, electronic devices (fuel cells, lithium ion batteries and solar cells), as well as in biomedical uses (such as antibacterial activities, removal of antibiotics and detection of cancer cells). This review summarizes and highlights the main aspects, from literature of the last ten years, regarding synthesis methods of ZnO-based CNFs, their optical, electrical and magnetic properties and applications in various fields of industry.  相似文献
