The use of monoclonal antibodies for detecting the influenza virus

The possibilities of using influenza A (Leningrad) 385/80 (H3N2) virus matrix protein-specific FITC-labeled D8 monoclonal antibodies in immunofluorescence assays were investigated. The virus antigen accumulation was detected in chorioallantoic cells of chick embryos. Exhibiting the type-specific properties, the fluorescent antibodies stain the perinuclear space, cytoplasmic membrane, and granular structures in the cytoplasm of infected cells. The haemagglutination test tires in the corresponding specimens were at least 1:16.     

Dynamics of the uptake of free amino acids in the blood serum of the portal vein during the digestion of isolated krill protein

The rate of absorption of amino acids obtained from isolated krill protein administered to rat stomach was studied. Absorption of casein amino acids was determined for reference purposes. Rats subjected to 48-hour fasting were administered krill isolate and casein in the form of homogenates at a rate 540 mg protein per 100 g bw in 6 ml of distilled water. The concentration of free amino acids in the portal vein was measured after 30 minutes, 1, 3 and 6 hours. The content of amino acids was measured by ion-exchange chromatography with the use of an automatic analyzer of amino acids. The digestion of krill protein proceeds at a high rate. This ensures the maximal augmentation of the concentration of most amino acids in the blood of the portal vein 30 min after isolate administration to the stomach.     

Technology for high-alumina mortar in the Belokamensk Refractory Plant

Materials proposed for the production of a high-alumina mortar are investigated, namely, waste of melting of secondary aluminum, polishing powder of normal electrocorundum, and sintered corundum. A technology for the production of high-alumina mortars of three compositions has been developed for these materials. An experimental industrial batch of mortar composed of ShKN chamotte, polishing powder of normal electrocorundum, and DN2 clay has been manufactured and tested with a positive result. Production of the mortar has been introduced in the Belokamensk Refractory Plant.Translated from Ogneupory, No. 1, pp. 27 – 28, January, 1996.     

Measurement of metal nanolayers optical parameters using surface plasmon resonance method

The results of experimental definition of optical parameters of silver nanolayers by the method of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) are described. The goniometric installation for measurement of angular dependences of reflection of light by layered nanosructures at the attenuated internal reflection (angular spectrum of reflection) is designed. Calculation of optical parameters of nanolayers is executed taking into account the form of a curve of tin angular spectrum of reflection. The text was submitted by the authors in English.     

Spectropolarimetry of multimode quartz fibers in the infrared

Results are presented of experimental spectropolarimetric investigations of multimode fiber-optic waveguides with core diameters between 65 and 404 μm in the infrared (0.8, 1.3, and 1.55 μm). Decentralised decision making in heterogeneous teams using anonymous optimisation

This paper considers the scenario where multiple autonomous agents must cooperate in making decisions to minimise a continuous and differentiable team cost function. A distributed and asynchronous optimisation algorithm is presented which allows each agent to incrementally refine their decisions while intermittently communicating with the rest of the team. A convergence analysis provides quantitative requirements on the frequency agents must communicate that is prescribed by the structure of the decision problem. In general the solution method will require every agent to communicate to and have a model of every other agent in the team. To overcome this, a specific subset of systems, called Partially Separable, is defined. These systems only require each agent to have a combined summary of the rest of the team and allows each agent to communicate locally over an acyclic communication network, greatly increasing the scalability of the system.     

A preferential semantics for causal reasoning about action

One of the principal concerns in the research area of Reasoning about Action is determining the ramifications of actions in changing environments. A particular tendency emerging in recent literature endorses the explicit incorporation of causal knowledge in logic-based action theories. It is argued that causal extensions not only enhance the expressive power of theories of action, but may also provide more concise and intuitive representations. This paper investigates semantics for causal reasoning about action and change. It does so by exploring the role of several fundamental underlying principles, such as the Principle of Minimal Change and the Principle of Causal Change. This work culminates in a general unifying semantics for a class of action theories represented by a number of recent and influential approaches – in particular, the causal relationship approach of Thielscher and the causal systems with fixed-points suggested by McCain and Turner. The unifying augmented preferential semantics, emerging as a result of this study, captures both Principles of Change and shows their clear and distinct roles.
