The problem of state-parameter estimation is considered in terms of decoupling the estimation procedure. First, the theoretical preliminaries necessary for the mathematical statement of the problem are defined. Then using the extended Kalman filter (EKF) approach, the state and parameter are estimated by applying the solution techniques to a distributed parameter system. Next, the state estimation problem is decoupled from the parameter estimation problem and by using a numerical example, the advantage of this decoupling procedure is demonstrated. The numerical results show that convergence can be improved when this decoupling procedure is employed. The effect of the location of the measurements on the estimation problem is also analysed in this work. The results show that the convergence of the problem depends on the location as well as the number of measurements.  相似文献

This study evaluates the pore structure of asphalt concrete (AC) samples by measuring the different components of pore space and their contributions to permeability and moisture damage. Three components of the total pore space namely permeable, dead-end and isolated pores are quantified using tracer test, which is a combination of permeameter and salt concentration measuring meter. Permeable pores become impermeable if an AC sample is compacted below 5% air voids. Permeable pores increase with an increase in sample radius. It is observed from this study that the permeable pore has a good correlation with permeability, whereas total pore shows a poor correlation with permeability. The effects of permeable and dead-end pores on moisture damage of asphalt concrete are evaluated using a moisture induced sensitivity testing device and the AASHTO T 283 method. It is observed that permeable and dead-end pores do not contribute to moisture damage of AC samples.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with an external sorting algorithm with no additional disk space. The proposed algorithm is a hybrid one that uses Quicksort and special merging process in two distinct phases. The algorithm excels in sorting a huge file, which is many times larger than the available memory of the computer. This algorithm creates no extra backup file for manipulating huge records. For this, the algorithm saves huge disk space, which is needed to hold the large file. Also our algorithm switches to special merging process after the first phase that uses Quicksort. This reduces the time complexity and makes the algorithm faster.  相似文献

Rear-end crash is one of the most common types of traffic crashes in the U.S. A good understanding of its characteristics and contributing factors is of practical importance. Previously, both multinomial Logit models and Bayesian network methods have been used in crash modeling and analysis, respectively, although each of them has its own application restrictions and limitations. In this study, a hybrid approach is developed to combine multinomial logit models and Bayesian network methods for comprehensively analyzing driver injury severities in rear-end crashes based on state-wide crash data collected in New Mexico from 2010 to 2011. A multinomial logit model is developed to investigate and identify significant contributing factors for rear-end crash driver injury severities classified into three categories: no injury, injury, and fatality. Then, the identified significant factors are utilized to establish a Bayesian network to explicitly formulate statistical associations between injury severity outcomes and explanatory attributes, including driver behavior, demographic features, vehicle factors, geometric and environmental characteristics, etc. The test results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid approach performs reasonably well. The Bayesian network reference analyses indicate that the factors including truck-involvement, inferior lighting conditions, windy weather conditions, the number of vehicles involved, etc. could significantly increase driver injury severities in rear-end crashes. The developed methodology and estimation results provide insights for developing effective countermeasures to reduce rear-end crash injury severities and improve traffic system safety performance.  相似文献

A nitrogen removal benchmark was analyzed using the Activated Sludge Models No. 1 (ASM1) and No. 3 (ASM3) in order to establish a basis for designing an experimental comparison of the two model types. Differences in steady state effluent concentrations predicted by both models could to a large extent be explained by different model concepts. The steady state system performance was analyzed by evaluating the Monod factor values, and through a sensitivity analysis of the kinetic model parameters. Both methods complement each other. Analysis of the Monod factor values can lead to determination of parameters to be estimated during model calibration. The steady state system response to manipulation of the potential actuators for control was evaluated via a sensitivity analysis. The concept of relative sensitivity was introduced to compare the relative effect of each actuator in both models. The negative relative sensitivities of X S to four of the five control handles analyzed imply an opposite response of both models, which can be important for control structure design. The analysis of the process behavior to different disturbances showed different dynamics of both models. ASM3 simulation results are easier to interpret because the model structure is more transparent, mainly due to the simpler cell decay model principle considered in ASM3. A facile method has been developed for the synthesis of core–shell nanostructure poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) grafted on silica nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs) by using the combination of ARGET ATRP and thiol-ene click chemistry. The covalent attachment of the thermo-responsive polymer was achieved by taking advantage of the fast, robust, and high efficient thiol-ene click reaction as demonstrated by FT-IR and XPS. The ARGET ATRP provides the good conversion of the monomer in a well-controlled manner as indicated by the narrow value of PDI (1.21). The grafting amount of the polymer on SiO2 NPs was found to be ca. 18 % as determined by TGA technique. TEM images of the encapsulated SiO2 NPs suggested that the SiO2 NPs core was covered by the soft polymer layer. Interestingly, dynamic light scattering analysis revealed that the as-synthesized nanocomposites exhibited the thermo-responsive behavior with the transition temperature around 31–33 °C.  相似文献

Radio wave propagation plays a very important part in the design and eventually dictates performance of space communication systems. Over time, the requirements of satellite communication have grown extensively where higher capacity communications systems are needed. Escalating demands of microwave and millimetre wave communications are causing frequency spectrum congestion. Hence, existing and future satellite system operators are planning to employ frequency bands well above 10 GHz. The challenge in operating at such high frequencies for communication purposes is that there exists stronger electromagnetic interaction between the radio signals and atmospheric hydrometeors. Such instances will degrade the performance of such high frequency satellite communication systems. The development of a revised model for a better‐improved rain fade prediction of signal propagations in tropical region is considered very important. This paper presents an integrated system for generation of sustainable process alternatives with respect to new process design as well as retrofit design. The generated process alternatives are evaluated through sustainability metrics, environmental impact factors as well as inherent safety factors. The process alternatives for new process design as well as retrofit design are generated through a systematic method that is simple yet effective and is based on a recently developed path flow analysis approach. According to this approach, a set of indicators are calculated in order to pinpoint unnecessary energy and material waste costs and to identify potential design (retrofit) targets that may improve the process design (in terms of operation and cost) simultaneously with the sustainability metrics, environmental impact factors and the inherent safety factors. Only steady state design data and a database with properties of compounds, including, environmental impact factor related data and safety factor related data are needed. The integrated computer-aided system generates the necessary data if actual plant or experimental data are not available. The application of the integrated system is highlighted through a number of examples including the well-known HDA process.  相似文献

A steady state liquid-liquid extractor model using the UNIFAC group contribution method for phase equilibria has been developed. A heuristic method, which limits the number of stage calculations per iteration to a low number is used, according to the residuals calculated in the previous iteration, the method either selects or rejects a stage for the calculations. With this approach, the same accuracy in results have been obtained at about half the computing time with respect to without use of heuristic method. The model has been applied to simulate staged extractors as well as continuous extractors (plate columns). The model is based on a very robust flash calculation routine and on a versatile package (UNIFAC) for the prediction of thermodynamic properties.  相似文献
