The performance of conjugate gradient (CG) algorithms for the solution of the system of linear equations that results from the finite-differencing of the neutron diffusion equation was analyzed on SIMD, MIMD, and mixed-mode parallel machines. A block preconditioner based on the incomplete Cholesky factorization was used to accelerate the conjugate gradient search. The issues involved in mapping both the unpreconditioned and preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithms onto the mixed-mode PASM prototype, the SIMD MasPar MP-1, and the MIMD Intel Paragon XP/S are discussed. On PASM , the mixed-mode implementation outperformed either SIMD or MIMD alone. Theoretical performance predictions were analyzed and compared with the experimental results on the MasPar MP-1 and the Paragon XP/S. Other issues addressed include the impact on execution time of the number of processors used, the effect of the interprocessor communication network on performance, and the relationship of the number of processors to the quality of the preconditioning. Applications studies such as this are necessary in the development of software tools for mapping algorithms onto either a single parallel machine or a heterogeneous suite of parallel machines.  相似文献

Dimensional inspection, in integrated manufacturing environments, requires accurate inspection while minimizing the cost and time of inspection. The selection of sampling plan—sample size and sample point locations, the method of evaluating the form error and the nature of the manufactured surfaces will play an important role in deciding the best inspection strategy to be adopted. This paper deals with the strategy for evaluation of flatness error which is one of the most commonly used form tolerances for control of manufactured surfaces. Investigations have been carried out to ascertain the influence of surface quality (surface roughness) in determining the sampling strategy for accurate determination of flatness error while inspecting on a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). The sampling plan utilizes the Hammersley sequence for point location and the flatness error is evaluated using the minimum zone method (MZM) based on computational geometry techniques. Results indicate that the surface roughness influences the accuracy of inspection and can be used as a parameter for determining an initial sample size for the determination of flatness error.  相似文献

Nanometer-sized α-Fe2O3 particles have been prepared by a simple solvothermal method using ferric acetylacetonate as a precursor. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDAX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transition electron microscopy (TEM), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and thermal analysis (TG-DTA). XRD indicates that the product is single-phase α-Fe2O3 with rhombohedral structure. Bundles of acicular shaped nanoparticles are seen in TEM images with an aspect ratio ~ 12; typically 8–12 nm wide and over 150 nm long. The α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles posses a high thermal stability, as observed on thermal analysis traces.  相似文献

The (AgBr)x(LiPO3)(1−x) (x=0.4 and 0.5) and [(AgI)x(AgBr)0.4−x](LiPO3)0.6 (x=0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) superionic electrolytes have been prepared by conventional melt quenching using a twin roller. These electrolytes are characterized by X-ray diffraction, SEM, and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) for structural investigation. Electrical characterizations have been carried out by the AC impedance analysis. The conductivity of LiPO3 glassy system at room temperature is improved by doping with the silver bromide (AgBr)x(LiPO3)(1−x) and the mixture of silver iodide, silver bromide (AgI-AgBr-LiPO3 system) up to 10−5 and 10−3 Ω−1 cm−1, respectively (improvements by four or five orders of magnitude). The frequency response of ionic conductivity has been analyzed by universal dynamic response model (Jonscher's law) and AC conductivity data are fitted using the Jonscher's power law. The conductivity values obtained by the power law and impedance plots are comparable. The frequency exponent (n) has a value between 0 and 1. The AgI-AgBr-LiPO3 system shows the mixed alkali effect. Summerfield scaling master curve is temperature dependent, which may be due to the contribution of the both lithium and silver ions to ionic conduction.  相似文献

Mass histories of polystyrene spheres (initial diameter 2–5 mm) burning in simulated air have been obtained by quenching combustion after variable times and weighing the residues. The flame positions and temperature histories of the spheres have also been recorded. A simple analytical model — an extension of quasi-steady combustion theory of liquid droplets — is shown to describe the combustion process reasonably well. Though the combustion process is broadly similar to that of liquid spheres, flame diameter is relatively smaller, particle temperature higher, and decomposition reactions occur in the condensed phase.  相似文献

In a recent work, it has been shown that it is possible to achieve a better combination of compressive strength, flexural strength and toughness properties in calcium phosphate (CaP) composites containing 20 and 30 wt% mullite (3Al2O3·2SiO2). In view of their potential application as load bearing implants, the present work reports the friction and wear properties of the newly developed composites against zirconia under dry ambient as well as in simulated body fluid (SBF) containing bovine serum albumin (BSA) protein. For comparison, experiments were also conducted on monolithic hydroxyapatite (HAp, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) and mullite under identical conditions. Under the investigated fretting conditions, the mullite-containing composites exhibited higher coefficient of friction (COF) of 0.4–0.6, compared to pure HAp (COF ~ 0.25–0.3). Although the wear resistance of the composites containing 20 or 30 wt% mullite was better in dry conditions, higher wear rate was measured in SBF conditions. The difference in tribological properties has been analyzed in reference to the difference in phase assemblage and mechanical properties. A comparison with some competing biomaterials reveals good potential of the investigated CaP-mullite composites for application as wear resistant implants.  相似文献

In the present day manufacturing environments it is becoming increasingly important to be able to deliver quality products at the right time to the market at competitive costs. The quality, cost and time to market depend not only on the design and manufacturing but also on the inspection process adopted. Design specifications rely on extensive usage of form tolerances to ensure that the functionality of surfaces and features of the product are maximized. The use of the coordinate measuring machines (CMM) has greatly improved the efficacy of form tolerance measurement and is also used as the key device in this work. The focus of this work is to deal with the method and strategies for measurement of flatness error so as to be able to predict the flatness error accurately at reduced sample sizes in batch and mass production setups. Accurate evaluation of flatness will require large sample sizes which increase the cost and time of inspection and hence a need to reduce the sample sizes without compromising on the accuracy. In the absence of robust models that can predict the errors due to manufacturing processes, an alternative technique has been devised to arrive at a reduced sample size. The procedure involves using large sample data inspected on the first component as the basis for evolving smaller sample sizes for subsequent components.Experimental verification of the developed algorithm shows that flatness error can be predicted with sufficient accuracy at small sample sizes.  相似文献

Microgravity is potentially a powerful tool for investigating processes that are sensitive to the presence of solid walls, since fluid containment can be achieved by surface tension. One such process is the transformation of protein in solution into amyloid fibrils; these are protein aggregates associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. In addition to solid walls, experiments with gravity are also subject to influences from sedimentation of aggregates and buoyancy-driven convection. The ring-sheared drop (RSD) module is a flow apparatus currently under development to study formation of amyloid fibrils aboard the International Space Station (ISS). A 25 mm diameter drop of protein solution will be contained by surface tension and constrained by a pair of sharp-edged tubes, forming two contact rings. Shear can be imparted by rotating one ring with the other ring kept stationary. Here we report on parabolic flights conducted to test the growth and pinning of 10 mm diameter drops of water in under 10 s of microgravity. Finite element method (FEM) based fluid dynamics computations using a commercial package (COMSOL) assisted in the design of the parabolic flight experiments. Prior to the parabolic flights, the code was validated against experiments in the lab (1 g), on the growth of sessile and pendant droplets. The simulations show good agreement with the experiments. This modeling capability will enable the development of the RSD at the 25 mm scale for the ISS.  相似文献

In this article, using Lie algebraic technique and the expressions of the matrix elements of Majorana and Casimir operators, we obtain an effective Hamiltonian operator, which conveniently describes some stretching infra-red active mode of vibrations of monolayer graphene model of 30 atoms.
