Resonator frequency fluctuations due to adsorption and desorption of molecules on plate electrodes are studied using the principle of mass-loading effects of adsorbed molecules. The study is based on a 525 MHz, AT-cut quartz resonator enclosed in a small crystal holder. Equations relating the surface adsorption rates of the crystal holder to pressure were derived and found to be quadratic polynomial functions of the adsorption rates. Calculations based on these equations show that a contaminant gas with a higher desorption energy creates larger changes in pressure when the temperature is varied. The function describing the frequency fluctuations due to any one contaminant site is a continuous-time Markov chain. Kolmogorov equations and an autocorrelation function for the Markov chain are derived. The autocorrelation and spectral density function of resonator frequency fluctuations are derived. The spectral density of frequency fluctuations at 1 Hz is studied as a function of pressure, temperature, and desorption energy of molecules. The noise levels for a contaminant gas with one type of molecules are found to be lower for lower desorption energies, and higher at lower pressures. 相似文献

The mass loading effects of adsorbing and desorbing contaminant molecules on the magnitude and characteristics of frequency fluctuations in a thickness-shear resonator are studied. The study is motivated by the observation that the frequency of a thickness-shear resonator is determined predominantly by such mechanical parameters as the thickness of the resonator, elastic stiffnesses, mass loading of the electrodes, and energy trapping. An equation was derived relating the spectral density of frequency fluctuations to: (1) rates of adsorption and desorption of one species of contaminant molecules; (2) mass per unit area of a monolayer of molecules: (3) frequency constant; (4) thickness of resonator; and (5) number of molecular sites on one resonator surface. The induced phase noises were found to be significant in very-high-frequency resonators and are not simple functions of the percentage of area contaminated. The spectral density of frequency fluctuations was inversely proportional to the fourth power of the thickness if other parameters were held constant. 相似文献

Hydrogels are polymeric materials widely used in medicine due to their similarity with the biological components of the body. Hydrogels are biocompatible materials that have the potential to promote cell proliferation and tissue support because of their hydrophilic nature, porous structure, and elastic mechanical properties. In this work, we demonstrate the microwave-assisted synthesis of three molecular weight varieties of poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) with different mechanical and thermal properties and the rapid photo of them using 1-hydroxy-cyclohexyl-phenyl-ketone (Irgacure 184) as UV photoinitiator. The effects of the poly(ethylene glycol) molecular weight and degree of acrylation on swelling, mechanical, and rheological properties of hydrogels were investigated. The biodegradability of the PEGDMA hydrogels, as well as the ability to grow and proliferate cells, was examined for its viability as a scaffold in tissue engineering. Altogether, the biomaterial hydrogel properties open the way for applications in the field of regenerative medicine for functional scaffolds and tissues. 相似文献

Number of software applications demands various levels of security at the time of scheduling in Computational Grid. Grid may offer these securities but may result in the performance degradation due to overhead in offering the desired security. Scheduling performance in a Grid is affected by the heterogeneities of security and computational power of resources. Customized Genetic Algorithms have been effectively used for solving complex optimization problems (NP Hard) and various heuristics have been suggested for solving Multi-objective optimization problems. In this paper a security driven, elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm, Optimal Security with Optimal Overhead Scheduling (OSO2S), based on NSGA-II, is proposed. The model considers dual objectives of minimizing the security overhead and maximizing the total security achieved. Simulation results exhibit that the proposed algorithm delivers improved makespan and lesser security overhead in comparison to other such algorithms viz. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder defined by systemic insulin resistance. Insulin resistance in adipocytes, an important regulator of glucose metabolism, results in impaired glucose uptake. The trafficking protein, sortilin, regulates major glucose transporter 4 (Glut4) movement, thereby promoting glucose uptake in adipocytes. Here, we demonstrate the presence of an alternatively spliced sortilin variant (Sort17b), whose levels increase with insulin resistance in mouse 3T3L1 adipocytes. Using a splicing minigene, we show that inclusion of alternative exon 17b results in the expression of Sort17b splice variant. Bioinformatic analysis indicated a novel intrinsic disorder region (IDR) encoded by exon 17b of Sort17b. Root mean square deviation (RMSD) and root mean square fluctuation (RMSF) measurements using molecular dynamics demonstrated increased flexibility of the protein backbone within the IDR. Using protein–protein docking and co-immunoprecipitation assays, we show robust binding of Glut4 to Sort17b. Further, results demonstrate that over-expression of Sort17b correlates with reduced Glut4 translocation and decreased glucose uptake in adipocytes. The study demonstrates that insulin resistance in 3T3L1 adipocytes promotes expression of a novel sortilin splice variant with thus far unknown implications in glucose metabolism. This knowledge may be used to develop therapeutics targeting sortilin variants in the management of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. 相似文献

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN), is an important base polymer to cast porous membranes. In this work, a detailed study of the effects of molecular weight of PAN homopolymer and its concentration on the cast membrane has been undertaken. The effects of molecular weight of additive polyethylene glycol (PEG) and its concentration have also been investigated. The membranes are cast using dimethyl formamide as solvent using phase inversion technique. They are characterized in terms of porosity, water permeability, molecular weight cut off, average pore diameter, contact angle, and tensile strength at breaking point. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy are used to characterize the chemical and morphological changes of the membrane surface. Further studies have been considered to evaluate the antifouling property of various membranes using filtration of bovine serum albumin solution.
