The influence of aluminum additions to a Ti-7 at. pet Mo alloy on the phase equilibria was investigated. The microstructures of the alloys, Ti-7 pct Mo-7 pct Al and Ti-7 pct Mo-16 pct Al, were determined by light and electron microscopy. It was found that with increasing aluminum concentration the formation of the metastable w phase was suppressed. In the Ti-7 pct Mo-16 pct Al alloy the β phase decomposed upon quenching by precipitating coherent, ordered particles having a B2 type of crystal structure (β2). At low temperatures the equilibrium phases for this alloy were β + α+ β 2, whereas at high temperature (850° to 950°C) the Ti3Al phase was in two-phase equilibrium with the β phase. The four-phase equilibrium which exists at a temperature of about 550°C involves the reaction β + Ti3Al ⇌ α + β2. G. We propose a small-footprint X-cut thin-sheet lithium niobate optical modulator with high-speed and low-driving-voltage characteristics. Since an optical waveguide is folded by a mirror placed at one edge of the modulation chip, the chip can be shortened by about half. In addition, a wide modulation bandwidth can be achieved, because the path-length difference between the optical waveguide and the coplanar-waveguide (CPW) electrode is decreased to as short as possible by placing the CPW electrode as far as possible along the optical waveguide in the folded portion, and the microwave effective index is set to realize effective velocity matching between the lightwave and the microwave. A small footprint of 1.78 times 29 mm, a low half-wave voltage of 2.0 V at dc, and a 3-dBe modulation bandwidth of 20 GHz were obtained.  相似文献

We present a novel thin-sheet X-cut LiNbO/sub 3/ optical modulator structure which can be fabricated by precise polishing and lapping to obtain a thinner LiNbO/sub 3/ substrate for a lower driving voltage in addition to velocity matching and impedance matching. We demonstrated that the fabricated modulator had a driving voltage V/spl pi/ of 2 V and zero chirp for 40-Gb/s operation and had a high potential for suppressed dc drift, and long-term reliability.  相似文献

Indoor air concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and dust particles were measured for 49 biomass and 46 fossil fuel users in urban slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The health impacts of these pollutants were assessed on 65 and 51 children under five years old from families who use biomass and fossil fuel as main source of energy, respectively. Mean concentrations of CO were found to be significantly higher in biomass fuel users (P = 0.010), while geometric mean concentrations of benzene, xylene, toluene, hexane, total VOCs, and NO2 were significantly higher (P < 0.01) in the fossil fuel users. Symptoms such as redness of eyes, itching of skin, nasal discharge, cough, shortness of breath, chest tightness, wheezing, or whistling chest were found to be associated with the choice of biomass fuel, with the odds ratio ranging from 4.0 to 6.3. No significant association of use of biomass fuel with respiratory diseases, eczema, diarrhea, or viral fever was observed after adjustment for potential confounders. These results suggest a significant association between the biomass fuel-using population and respiratory symptoms. These symptoms may not be due to the pollutants only, as some other underlying causes may be present. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The health of children under five years old in Bangladesh, especially those living in poor socioeconomic conditions, is considered to be worsening because of indoor air pollution. It is commonly suggested that biomass fuel should be replaced by fossil fuel, as pollution levels are believed to be higher with biomass fuel. Our findings, however, suggest that pollution can be higher with fossil fuels, and indicate that a switch in fuel from biomass to fossil does not necessarily improve the children's health. Awareness programs should therefore be undertaken to avoid the unnecessary use of gas. Clean fuels and clean stoves should also be ensured to reduce emissions of indoor air pollutants.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The serum concentration of the high-affinity growth hormone-binding protein (GHBP) is increased in obesity but the mechanisms are poorly understood. This study assessed the physiological mechanisms involved in the regulation of GHBP in adiposity. SUBJECTS AND MEASUREMENTS: We tested a number of obesity specific parameters for their association with GHBP. In this study, 199 normal or overweight children and adolescents (101 boys, 98 girls, aged (mean +/- s.d.): 13.7 +/- 2.3 y) underwent an anthropometric evaluation (circumference measurements and bioimpedance analysis) combined with blood withdrawal for the measurement of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), insulin, leptin and GHBP (by specific RIA), uric acid, triglycerides and cholesterol. RESULTS: By linear regression analysis GHBP correlated significantly (P < 0.001) with percent body fat mass (r = 0.71), waist (r = 0.73) and hip (r = 0.69) circumference, weight (r = 0.61) waist hip ratio (WHR) (r = 0.54), as well as with the serum concentrations of leptin (r = 0.64), uric acid (r = 0.54), insulin (r = 0.45), LDL-cholesterol (r = 0.43), cholesterol (r =0.33), LDL/HDL ratio (r = 0.47), triglycerides (r = 0.30) and with height standard deviations scores (SDS) (r = 0.23). Age, gender and pubertal stage had no impact on GHBP. In a multiple regression analysis containing age and gender, as well as the anthropometric variables, percent fat mass and waist circumference, as independent variables, associations between GHBP and leptin (P < 0.001), cholesterol (P < 0.01), LDL-cholesterol (P = 0.01), LDL/HDL ratio (P = 0.02), triglycerides (P = 0.01) remained significant. In a final model using the stepwise analysis involving age, gender and all the independent predictors of GHBP, waist circumference (P < 0.001), accounted for 49.5% of the 60.0% total variability in GHBP, while the implication of leptin (P < 0.001), age (P < 0.01) and cholesterol (P < 0.05) increased the predicted variability for 7.5%, 1.9%, and 1.0%, respectively. Serum GHBP was significantly reduced in a subgroup of 104 overweight or obese patients during a diet-induced weight loss programme, the coefficient of correlation between GHBP and leptin after (r = 0.45, P < 0.001) and before weight reduction (r = 0.41, P < 0.001) were comparable. CONCLUSION: Waist circumference, an indicator of abdominal body fat mass, is a major determinant of GHBP levels during childhood, while leptin may be one candidate for a signal linking adipocytes to the growth hormone receptor related GHBP release. Additionally, elevated serum levels of GHBP may reflect metabolic disturbances of adiposity.  相似文献

La(3+) and not Ca(2+) increases methanol dehydrogenase (MDH) activity in Methylobacterium radiotolerans NBRC15690. La(3+)- and Ca(2+)-MDH-like proteins were found to be homodimeric (α(2)) and heterotetrameric (α(2)β(2)), respectively. N-terminal amino acid sequences of these proteins revealed that La(3+)- and Ca(2+)-MDH-like proteins were encoded by xoxF and mxaFI, respectively.  相似文献

It is a significant challenge for a titanium implant, which is a bio-inert material, to recruit osteogenic factors, such as osteoblasts, proteins and blood effectively when these are contained in a biomaterial. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of ultraviolet (UV)-treatment of titanium on surface wettability and the recruitment of osteogenic factors when they are contained in an atelocollagen sponge. UV treatment of a dental implant made of commercially pure titanium was performed with UV-light for 12 min immediately prior to the experiments. Superhydrophilicity on dental implant surfaces was generated with UV-treatment. The collagen sponge containing blood, osteoblasts, or albumin was directly placed on the dental implant. Untreated implants absorbed only a little blood from the collagen sponge, while the UV-treated implants absorbed blood rapidly and allowed it to spread widely, almost over the entire implant surface. Blood coverage was 3.5 times greater for the UV-treated implants (p < 0.001). Only 6% of the osteoblasts transferred from the collagen sponge to the untreated implants, whereas 16% of the osteoblasts transferred to the UV-treated implants (p < 0.001). In addition, a weight ratio between transferred albumin on the implant and measured albumin adsorbed on the implant was 17.3% in untreated implants and 38.5% in UV-treated implants (p < 0.05). These results indicated that UV treatment converts a titanium surface into a superhydrophilic and bio-active material, which could recruite osteogenic factors even when they were contained in a collagen sponge. The transfer and subsequent diffusion and adsorption efficacy of UV-treated titanium surfaces could be useful for bone formation when titanium surfaces and osteogenic factors are intervened with a biomaterial.  相似文献

The stability of the multistrand cables under partial current distribution among strands is discussed. The stability is influenced by a current sharing process among the strands. Stability tests under controlled current distribution are carried out for some test samples that had various electric resistance among strands. Then numerical analysis of the stability is carried out with a simplified electric circuit model that simulates current sharing process among strands. The results of the numerical calculations had good agreement with the experimental data. For stability of the multistrand cables, the electrical resistance among strands, which is the key parameter, is required to be lower than the normal resistance.
