A new approach to determination of the input impedance of a dipole antenna

In terms of the example of a tubular dipole, a new diffraction approach is developed for determining its input impedance. This approach makes it possible to avoid conventional a priori specification of the exciting electric field in the dipole’s gap. Two problems of diffraction of an E-polarized wave by the corresponding structures formed from metal tubes are solved. It is also shown that, when the widespread method involving specification of the form of the electric field in the dipole’s gap is applied, the quasi-electrostatic character of the field and the field singularities on the dipole’s edges should be taken into account. Then, the input impedance of the dipole can be calculated with a small error.

Electrodynamic analysis of irregularities based on a shielded dielectric waveguide

Several functional elements exhibiting filtering properties are calculated on the basis of a rigorous solution to the 3D problem of diffraction by a junction of shielded dielectric waveguides (SDWs). It is shown that the solution to the diffraction problem depends heavily on the SDW dispersion characteristics that contain two-value sections in the region of propagating waves and indicate the presence of backward waves in regular waveguides. It is demonstrated that parallelepiped dielectric waveguides placed in the interior of a shielded waveguide enhance the efficiency of small bandpass filters.

We report a case of Pasteurella multocida pneumonia and empyema in an otherwise healthy patient. The most frequently observed human complication with this microorganism is a local wound infection. Only a few cases of pneumonia have been described, and most of the patients were immunodeficient.     

Recording Defects in Rotating Systems with a Magnetometric Hall Detector

A system is considered for recording defects in rotary systems. The detectors are provided by Hall-effect sensors. Synchronous accumulation is used to eliminate noise. Numerical simulation results are given.     

Effect of superoxide in air on structural organization and phosphorylating respiration of mitochondria

The effect of negative air ions generated by a Tchijevsky lustre was studied in rat liver mitochondria in homogenate under conditions providing preservation of their native structural organization in the form of associations. Rapid formation of large associations from intermediate and small associations occurs after the homogenate was put into medium pretreated by negative air ions (NAI). Under the influence of a flow of NAI on mitochondria stored on ice for 2-3 h formation of giant associations is observed. Associations of mitochondria are not dissipated by stirring with a magnetic stirrer for several minutes. The influence of medium pretreated with NAI or flow of NAI on homogenate improves weakened respiratory energy control and restores stimulation of phosphorylating respiration by adrenalin administration. The improvement of phosphorylation in mitochondria by NAI is perhaps caused by more complete preservation of both their native structural organization and related physiological regulation of mitochondrial processes in isolated preparations.
