Tuning of porosity and surface properties of nanoparticles especially on carbon-based nanomaterials, adopting a ‘greener’ or self-activation synthesis technique for electrical charge storage, is progressing. Herein, we report the self-activation of Teak wood sawdust in a nitrogen atmosphere at different activation temperatures to synthesize carbon nanoparticles. The activated carbon nanoparticles synthesized at 900 °C exhibits a maximum?~?360 m2 g?1 surface area with?~?2 nm average pore size diameter. Five electrolytes viz. KOH, KCl, Na2SO4, NaCl, and H3PO4 are used for studying the supercapacitance nature of the activated carbon nanoparticles in a 3-electrode configuration. A maximum specific capacitance of?~?208 F g?1 @ 0.25 A g?1 is obtained in 1 M KOH as the electrolyte. Two symmetric supercapacitors, aqueous (1 M KOH) and solid-state (PVA/KOH), are fabricated, and their performance difference is compiled. The solid-state symmetric supercapacitor performs in a wider voltage window (1.7 V) with a superior energy density of 27.1 Wh kg?1 at a power density of 178 W kg?1.

This study showed the relevance of using chromosomal aberration (CA) as potential indicators of sodium arsenite (SA; NaAsO2) cytotoxicity. The study investigated cytotoxic potential of SA in Oreochromis niloticus using CA assessment. The fish were exposed to four different concentrations of SA (5, 10, 20 and 40 mg/L) for 24 hours in comparison to a control group. The As concentrations in the samples were analysed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. The differences in As concentrations in the water and O. niloticus samples between the control and experimental groups were significant (p<0.05), whereas the within experimental group differences were not significant. The cytotoxic assessment of SA in O. niloticus revealed five types of CAs, including single chromatid gaps (SCG), single chromatid break (SCB), centric gap (CG), fragmentation (F) and deletion (D). The most common CA in the O. niloticus samples was SCG. A total of 2.33, 10.67, 18.67, 18.00 and 23.67% of the cells in the control and experimental groups exhibited CAs. The numbers of CAs and cells with CAs from the control and experimental groups of fish were significantly different (p<0.05); additionally, the fish exposed to 5 and 40 mg/L showed significant within experimental group differences (p<0.05).  相似文献

Each of the currently available methods for serodiagnosis of leptospirosis, including the microscopic agglutination test (MAT), has its own drawback(s) when used in clinical practice. A new diagnostic test is therefore required for an earlier and more accurate diagnosis of leptospirosis. We applied immunoproteomics to define potential immunogens from five serovars of Leptospira reference strains. A leptospiral whole cell lysate from each serovar was used as the antigen to react with IgG and IgM in the sera from four patients with a positive MAT. Sera from four non-leptospirosis patients with a negative MAT were pooled and used as the negative control. 2-D Western blot analysis showed that the degree of immunoreactivity corresponded with the MAT titers. No immunoreactive spots were detected when the pooled control sera were used. A total of 24 protein spots immunoreacted with IgM and/or IgG from patients with leptospirosis. These immunoreactive proteins were identified by MALDI-TOF MS and were classified into five groups, including flagellar proteins, chaperones/heat shock proteins, transport proteins, metabolic enzymes, and hypothetical proteins. More immunoreactive spots were detected with anti-human IgG in the sera of all patients and with all the serovars of leptospires used. Some of the identified proteins immunoreacted only with IgG, whereas the others were detectable with both IgM and IgG. Among the immunoreactive proteins identified, FlaB proteins (flagellin and flagellar core protein) have been shown to have a potential role in clinical diagnostics and vaccine development. These data underscore the significant impact of immunoproteomics in clinical applications.  相似文献

Fifteen male subjects were exposed to a primary tracking task and a variety of subsidiary tasks for a total of 15 hours. Tracking performance was assessed through the use of two error measures, amount of time off the target track, and number of times off target. Subsidiary performance tasks included: a vigilance task requiring subjects to respond to the deflection of the noodle of a small meter; two reaction time tasks requiring response to the onset of one or the other of two lights; mental multiplication, which required the solution of simple multiplication problems; and digit span, in which the subject was required to repeat as rapidly and as accurately as possible a sot of digits of either five, six or seven numbers in length. In addition, three physiological measures were obtained.

A significant decrement in trucking performance was obtained for both measures utilized. This decrement was not particularly abrupt in its occurrence but rather took place cumulatively over the entire course of the experiment. There was no clearly established performance decrement on the subsidiary tasks utilized in this investigation. A marked variability in performance over the course of the experimental session was characteristic of performance on these tasks. Performance on the vigilance task, and one of the reaction time tasks improved during the 15-hour test session.

The 17-Kotosteroid and 17-Hydroxyeortieoid values increased during the session but only in the case of the latter was the increase significant. The eosinophil count of subjects exposed to the test conditions decreased steadily throughout the experimental session. However, eosinophil measures obtained from control subjects increased during a similar time period.  相似文献

Lumisterol (L3) is a stereoisomer of 7-dehydrocholesterol and is produced through the photochemical transformation of 7-dehydrocholesteol induced by high doses of UVB. L3 is enzymatically hydroxylated by CYP11A1, producing 20(OH)L3, 22(OH)L3, 20,22(OH)2L3, and 24(OH)L3. Hydroxylumisterols function as reverse agonists of the retinoic acid-related orphan receptors α and γ (RORα/γ) and can interact with the non-genomic binding site of the vitamin D receptor (VDR). These intracellular receptors are mediators of photoprotection and anti-inflammatory activity. In this study, we show that L3-hydroxyderivatives significantly increase the expression of VDR at the mRNA and protein levels in keratinocytes, both non-irradiated and after UVB irradiation. L3-hydroxyderivatives also altered mRNA and protein levels for RORα/γ in non-irradiated cells, while the expression was significantly decreased in UVB-irradiated cells. In UVB-irradiated keratinocytes, L3-hydroxyderivatives inhibited nuclear translocation of NFκB p65 by enhancing levels of IκBα in the cytosol. This anti-inflammatory activity mediated by L3-hydroxyderivatives through suppression of NFκB signaling resulted in the inhibition of the expression of UVB-induced inflammatory cytokines, including IL-17, IFN-γ, and TNF-α. The L3-hydroxyderivatives promoted differentiation of UVB-irradiated keratinocytes as determined from upregulation of the expression at the mRNA of involucrin (IVL), filaggrine (FLG), and keratin 14 (KRT14), downregulation of transglutaminase 1 (TGM1), keratins including KRT1, and KRT10, and stimulation of ILV expression at the protein level. We conclude that CYP11A1-derived hydroxylumisterols are promising photoprotective agents capable of suppressing UVB-induced inflammatory responses and restoring epidermal function through targeting the VDR and RORs.  相似文献

In conventional whole‐tooth culture systems, limitation exists regarding maintenance of the vitality of the dental pulp, because this tissue is encased in rigid dentin walls that hinder nutrition supply. We here report a whole tooth‐in‐jaw‐bone culture system of rat mandibular first molars, where transcardiac perfusion with culture medium was carried out before placement of the jaw bone into culture medium, aiming to facilitate longer time preservation of the dental pulp tissue. Following 7 days of culture, the pulp tissues were analyzed by histology and immunohistochemistry to ED2 (antiresident macrophage). ED2‐positive macrophages were also analyzed for their Class II MHC, interleukin‐6 (IL‐6), and p53 mRNA expression levels by means of immune‐laser capture microdissection (immune‐LCM). Dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) mRNA expression in odontobalstic layer was also examined by LCM. Teeth cultured following saline‐perfusion and nonperfusion served as cultured controls. Normal teeth also served as noncultured controls. Histological examination demonstrated that the structure of the pulp tissue was well preserved in the medium‐perfused explants in contrast to the cultured control groups. The Class II MHC, IL‐6, and p53 mRNA expression levels of ED2‐positive cells and DSPP expression levels of odontoblastic layer tissues in the pulp of medium‐perfused explants were not significantly different from those in the noncultured normal teeth. In conclusion, the structural integrity and mRNA expression in the pulp were maintained at the in vivo level in the ex vivo whole tooth‐in‐jaw‐bone culture system. To obtain advanced materials with a high thermal dissipation, the addition of multiwalled carbon nanotubes containing diverse functionality groups, that is, as‐received multiwalled carbon nanotubes (AS‐MWCNTs) and diaminobenzoyl multiwalled carbon nanotubes (DA‐MWCNTs), to epoxy–anhydride composites was accomplished. According to nonisothermal differential scanning calorimetry analysis, the reactive functional groups present on the surfaces of the AS‐MWCNTs and DA‐MWCNTs accelerated the nucleophilic addition reaction of epoxy composites. Because of the difference in the reactivities of these functional groups toward epoxy groups, the distinction of fractional conversion and the reaction rate of the curing process were remarkably evident at the early stage. A suitable kinetic model was effectively elucidated with the Málek approach. The curing kinetics could best be described by a two‐parameter autocatalytic model as a truncated ?esták–Berggren model. The DA‐MWCNTs achieved effective load transfer and active heat conductive pathways; this resulted in good dynamic mechanical and thermal properties. As a result, the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A/DA‐MWCNTs constituted an effective system with enhanced heat dissipation of materials for electronic applications. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Sodium‐montmorillonite nanoclay was modified with octadecylamine and compounded with natural rubber (NR) by dry mixing method. The effects of organoclay loading level on mechanical properties, thermal–mechanical behavior, and heat build‐up of NR/organoclay nanocomposites were investigated. Temperature scanning stress relaxation technique was used to characterize the thermal–mechanical behavior of the composites. The morphological properties were assessed by X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Loading levels of organoclay below 5 phr gave improved mechanical properties and heat build‐up, along with exfoliated clay structure in the nanocomposites. On the other hand, with loading levels above 7 phr the organoclay tended to agglomerate, and X‐ray diffraction revealed an intercalated structure. In these cases, the excess residual organoclay caused significantly increased stress relaxation and heat build‐up. Unmodified sodium‐montmorillonite as filler did not significantly affect the mechanical and heat build‐up properties of NR vulcanizates. POLYM. Sintering of BaFe0.5Nb0.5O3:BFN requires the use of high temperatures to achieve satisfactory densification of this material. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of LiF on the sintering and electrical properties of BFN ceramics (the LiF was added as a sintering agent). The results show that LiF lowers the sintering temperature by 150-200 °C without affecting the formation of BFN. Ceramics doped with 2-3% LiF show optimum densities of about 93-94% of the theoretical value when sintered at low temperatures (1000-1100 °C). Samples containing 2-3% LiF show the following dielectric behaviour. The dielectric constant curves are very broad over a wide temperature range, with room-temperature values of 7154 in the 2% LiF sample and 2527 in the 3% LiF sample. The dielectric constants gradually increase up to 300 °C to values of about 38,862 in the 2% LiF sample and 40,471 in the 3% LiF sample. Furthermore, the addition of 2-3% LiF to BFN causes a reduction in the room-temperature dielectric loss from 4.29 in undoped BFN to less than 1.2 for LiF-containing samples.  相似文献
