The formation of acid soaps has been used successfully for the separation of a mixture of fatty acids into high and low iodine value fractions. The acid soaps of saturated acid can be made to crystallize from water leaving their unsaturated counter parts in solution. Acid soaps of saturated fatty acids are well characterized compounds with the formula R-COOM.R-COOH, where R is a straight alkyl chain, and M is sodium, potassium or ammonium. Optimum crystallization conditions involve a soap concentration of 2–5%, pH adjustment to between 7.0 and 8.0, an initial crystallization temperature not below 25C, and a crystallization period of at least 4 hr during which time cooling to a final temperature of 5–10C must be gradual, and agitation gentle.  相似文献

Activities in the area of sustainable consumption and production in Lithuania started in 1993 when the first cleaner production projects were implemented. The capacity in the area of cleaner production enabled further development and implementation of preventive environmental initiatives. Cleaner production activities have been followed by establishment of a system for development, financing and implementation of preventive innovations, implementation of environmental management systems (including development of new approaches for implementation, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises), product-oriented measures such as life cycle assessment, eco-design, and sustainability reporting. A very important role in building the basic capacity level and implementing the sustainable consumption and production initiatives in Lithuania has been played by the Institute of Environmental Engineering (APINI) at Kaunas University of Technology. This article presents an overview of activities in the area of sustainable consumption and production in Lithuania since 1992 as well as results/lessons learnt from these activities. To overcome barriers and to ensure progress in the area of sustainable consumption and production, a model of a system of sustainable consumption and production has been developed. The objective of the system is to minimise energy and material use as well as waste output, and to eliminate the “rebound” effect.  相似文献

The production and use of biogas, along with corresponding sector-specific activities and technologies, is a relatively new subject in Estonia. This paper gives an instructive overview of main barriers behind the development incentives, policy support and technological innovation in terms of emerging market for biogas. The article examines the complexity of market-related, political, technological and social obstacles for introduction biogas technologies. There is a major gap between resource potential, technological capacity and practice in Estonia. About 2?% of the theoretical potential of biogas is being used, totalling around 11?million?Nm3, based primarily on landfill biogas. First, political setting for biogas innovation is still vague, however, consolidated and enhanced since 2010 to compete with other renewables and mainstream energy technologies. The article underlines the statement that the reason why Estonian biogas production has not followed the path of growth and technology transfer is the low renewable electricity feed-in tariff. However, there are many other legal and engineering factors that have held back biogas applications and sector development in general. Stakeholders have established the Estonian Biogas Association, increasing sector’s visibility, targeted lobby to support policy-making, technological and social innovation and professional networking. Though getting the biogas sector to succeed demands a comprehensive approach and involvement of more actors in demand side including local leaders and consumers, both enthusiasm and scepticism should be informed by a sound understanding of framework conditions and complexities for path-breaking transformations in energy systems. To promote biogas production, profitable and technologically feasible showcases should demonstrate benefits and issues to the target group and stakeholders. Instead agricultural and CHP development mode, the priority of using biogas in Estonia could be seen as green vehicle fuel for transport.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To investigate the cellular dynamics of vessel formation during corneal neovascularization in the living eye by confocal microscopy. METHODS: Corneal neovascularization was initiated by placing a 7-0 silk suture through the corneal stroma 3 mm from the limbus at the 12 o'clock position in both eyes of 10 New Zealand white rabbits. The corneas were examined for vessel ingrowth at intervals from 1 to 15 days after suture placement using a tandem scanning confocal microscope with a 20X water immersion objective, as well as a slit-lamp biomicroscope. Changes in the limbal vessels were recorded on videotape for later analysis. As early vessel growth appeared to be associated with corneal nerves, the total number of sprouts and the number of sprouts along nerves were counted in confocal images, and the results analyzed for statistical significance. Vessel growth and the structural relationship between vascular buds and the deep stromal nerves were examined by light and transmission electron microscopy. RESULTS: The early events of cell migration from the limbal microvessels were found to be associated with the deep stromal nerves; although this association was easily visualized by confocal microscopy, it could not be documented by slit-lamp biomicroscopy. By 18 h after suture placement, the limbal vessels were dilated and the first vascular buds appeared as short, pointed, or flat-topped protrusions from the deep limbal capillaries. By 96 h, the capillary buds had increased in density and had begun to form lumens. Movement of red blood cells was established between 72 and 80 h after the first signs of bud formation, at the same time that cells of immune origin were seen. Confocal microscopy revealed and transmission electron microscopy verified that new bud formation began with the formation of vascular tubes by endothelial migration along the deep stromal nerves. The total number of sprouts and the number of sprouts associated with stromal nerves were similar on days 1 and 2 but differed on days 3-7, suggesting an association between sprouts and nerves in the early stages of neovascularization. CONCLUSION: Using real-time white light confocal microscopy, we were able, for the first time, to observe the process of corneal neovascularization in the living eye, from the earliest stages within hours after initiation to 2 weeks. The deep stromal nerves appear to serve as a focus for the growth of new vessels, by attracting and supporting vessel growth and/or by providing a potential space for movement of the endothelial cells. Confocal microscopy may provide a new approach to achieving a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in corneal neovascularization.  相似文献

In the present study, the effect of N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) conjugation onto branched poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) with different grafting degree was examined for gene delivery applications. The DMAEMA-grafted-PEI conjugates were characterized and complexed with plasmid DNA (pDNA) at various concentrations, and the physicochemical properties, cell viability, and in vitro transfection efficiency of the complexes were evaluated in HEK 293T cells. Computational techniques were used to analyze the interaction energies and possible binding modes between DNA and conjugates at different grafting degrees. The cytotoxicity analysis and in vitro transfection efficiency of the conjugate/pDNA complexes exhibited a beneficial effect of DMAEMA conjugation when compared to PEI alone. The computational results revealed that the DNA/vector interaction energy decreases with increasing grafting degree, which can be associated to an enhanced release of the pDNA from the carrier once inside cells. The results indicate the significance of DMAEMA conjugation onto PEI as a promising approach for gene delivery applications.  相似文献

On contemplating pilot plant scale-up of the acid soap process for separating fatty acid mixtures into low and high iodine value fractions, improvements were desirable in acidifying agent used, and the method of separating the solid acid soaps. A further objective was to determine the range of applicability of the process. Studies indicated that CO2 can be replaced by mineral acids, or by the fatty acids themselves. A continuous precoat vacuum filter is suitable for the separation of the solid acid soaps. The process is applicable to refinery foots as well as to distilled and undistilled fatty acids.  相似文献
