The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of preparation/storage conditions on the sorption, solubility, and mass changes of new proposed hydroxyapatite‐containing resin‐based composites. Seventy cylindrical samples of composite were prepared according to the ISO 4049 and stored in different storage solutions (distilled water, artificial saliva, 10% ethanol, 3% acetic acid, heptane, tea, and coffee) for 7, 14, and 28 days at 37°C. Principal component analysis and analysis of the variance were used to determine the impact of the preparation and storage conditions (e.g., curing time, storage time, and type of storage solution) on the changes of stability of examined material. Sorption, solubility, and mass changes of examined samples were specified. The tendency of these changes depending on the curing time, storage time, and type of storage solutions were presented. Due to the observed behavior, three groups of storage solutions were distinguished: “aqueous,” acidic, and hydrophobic (“fat”) solutions. Investigated properties changed in different way, characteristic for each of the above groups. No general tendency of the influence of storage and curing time was observed. The type of storage solution has the greatest impact on the sorption, solubility, and mass changes of examined material. The dependence of the depth of cure (DOC) and degree of conversion (DC) on the depth of experimental and commercial materials were determined according to ISO 4049 procedure and with the use of Raman spectroscopy, respectively. Moreover, an attempt was made to find the correlation between the DOC and DC and the depth of the material. The hypothesis was that curing time recommended by the manufacturers is appropriate for curing both commercial and experimental materials to achieve comparable values of the examined properties. The impact of the filler characteristic was clearly observed. The longer curing time provides a deeper curing (DOC values) and higher reaction rate (DC); however, the dependence between the DC values and DOC values was not visible. Instead, a logarithmic trend in the relation of the DOC and curing time was clearly observed. The results of this study suggest that the experimental materials give some hope for potential clinical applications and should be further investigated. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Nanoparticles tend to form large clusters (aggregates and agglomerates) which need to be broken up when dispersing in a liquid. The dispersion of nanoparticle clusters has been studied to investigate the kinetics and mechanisms of break up with two types of particles: fumed silica and aluminium oxide. Results obtained under different processing conditions using an in-line rotor-stator are reported. It could be concluded that break up occurs predominantly through erosion in the case of silica and shattering with aluminium oxide.  相似文献

Alveolar hypoxia causes pulmonary vasoconstriction; we investigated whether hypoxia could also impair pulmonary vasodilation. We found in the isolated perfused rat lung a delay in vasodilation following agonist-induced vasoconstriction. The delay was not due to erythrocyte or plasma factors, or to alterations in base-line lung perfusion pressure. Pretreating lungs with arachidonic acid abolished hypoxic vasoconstriction, but did not influence the hypoxia-induced impairment of vasodilation after angiotensin II, bradykinin, or serotonin pressor responses. Progressive slowing of vasodilation followed angiotensin II-induced constriction as the lung oxygen tension fell progressively below 60 Torr. KCl, which is not metabolized by the lung, caused vasoconstriction; the subsequent vasodilation time was delayed during hypoxia. However, catecholamine depletion in the lungs abolished this hypoxic vasodilation delay after KCl-induced vasoconstriction. In lungs from high altitude rats, the hypoxia-induced vasodilation impairment after an angiotensin II pressor response was markedly less than it was in lungs from low altitude rats. We conclude from these studies that (a) hypoxia impairs vasodilation of rat lung vessels following constriction induced by angiotensin II, serotonin, bradykinin, or KCl, (b) hypoxia slows vasodilation following KCl-induced vasoconstriction probably by altering lung handling of norepinephrine, (c) the effect of hypoxia on vasodilation is not dependent on its constricting effect on lung vessels, (d) high altitude acclimation moderates the effect of acute hypoxia on vasodilation, and (e) the hypoxic impairment of vasodilation is possibly the result of an altered rate of dissociation of agonists from their membrane receptors on the vascular smooth muscle.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this case study, we examine the reliability of a device whose material was produced over several heats, where the quality metric of the material is the content of a certain element in the material. The analyses revealed a number of issues, including rounded data values as well as periodicity and tilting in the two dimensions of the production process. Novel analysis features include non-standard estimation of certain variance components, and combining several tolerance intervals based on optimization criteria. The results of the analysis were useful to both the customer and supplier of the material.  相似文献

We demonstrate a technique for determining molecular collision cross sections via measuring the variation of Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) line width with background damping gas pressure, under conditions where the length of the FTICR transient is pressure limited. Key features of our method include monoisotopic isolation of ions, the pulsed introduction of damping gas to a constant pressure using a pulsed leak valve, short excitation events to minimize collisions during the excitation, and proper choice of damping gas (Xe is superior to He). The measurements are reproducible within a few percent, which is sufficient for distinguishing between many structural possibilities and is comparable to the uncertainty in cross sections calculated from computed molecular structures. These techniques complement drift ion mobility measurements obtained on dedicated instruments. They do not require a specialized instrument, but should be easily performed on any FTICR mass spectrometer equipped with a pulsed leak valve.  相似文献

Inverse gas chromatography was used to estimate surface activity expressed by the dispersive component of the surface free energy, γ, as well as parameters KA and KD describing surface ability to act as electron acceptor and donor, respectively. These parameters characterize the ability of the surface to specific interactions. The method was also applied to describe the magnitude of filler‐phenolic resin interaction by Flory‐Huggins parameter, χ′23. Granulation, surface area and porosity were also determined. The minimum number of parameters required to complete characterization of filler properties has been selected by principal component analysis. The usefulness of the selection for the abrasive industry has been proven. Moreover, the similarities and deviations from “an average” filler was determined by chemometric methods. Principal component analysis (PCA) and a novel procedure based on sum of ranking differences (SRD) were successfully applied for selection of the best fillers, and of advantageous parameters for characterization of the fillers.
