The availability of a smelter’s gas handling systems is crucial to the profitability of the plant. In new projects, the best technical and economic result is achieved if the gas handling systems are integrated into the process. This integration requires close cooperation between the smelter process designer and the gas handling designer. In modernization projects, environmentally, economically, and technically feasible solutions can be found, and smelter productivity can be increased when imagination and new technology are applied.  相似文献

We investigated the influence of juvenile hormones (JH) on the composition of cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) and the division of labor in colonies of the African ant Myrmicaria eumenoides. CHCs have long been implicated in nestmate recognition in social insect colonies. In M. eumenoides, the CHC profiles also vary with the task performed from brood-tender-type to forager type. The endocrine factors regulating the task allocation as well as the intracolonial recognition cues are not well understood, but JHs are prime candidates. Only JH III was identified in the hemolymph of M. eumenoides workers. Foragers had significantly higher JH III titers than brood tenders. The application of exogenous JH III and a JH analogue (methoprene) to M. eumenoides workers did not result in an observable acceleration of task change in our study. However, longevity of the focus workers, and thus the observational period, was reduced by the applications. Changes from a brood-tender-type to a forager-type CHC profile were accelerated by the application of JH III and methoprene, resulting in brood-tending workers that displayed forager-type CHC profiles. We present the first data supporting that recognition cues of an eusocial Hymenopteran are influenced by JH III, which could thus play a major role in the regulation of the dynamic nature of social insect colonies. JH III is connected to at least two key processes: the acceleration of CHC changes and the more long-term modulation of task shifting. Moreover, this indicates that changes in CHC recognition cues do not trigger task allocation in social insect colonies.  相似文献

In the present paper a cutting plane approach to solve mixed-integer non-linear programming (MINLP) problems, containing pseudo-convex functions, is given. It is shown how valid cutting planes for pseudo convex functions can be obtained and, furthermore, it is shown how a class of non-convex MINLP problems with a pseudo-convex objective function and pseudo-convex constraints, can be solved to global optimality with the considered cutting plane technique. Finally the numerical efficiency of the procedure, when solving some example problems, is illustrated.  相似文献

Annealing characteristics and room temperature creep were evaluated for wire of aluminum conductor alloys Al-0.20 pct Fe (EC), Al-0.85 pct Fe and Al-0.75 pet Fe-0.15 pct Mg produced by both conventional rod fabrication and continuous rod fabrication. Throughout these studies changes in resistance to annealing and resistance to creep paralleled each other, suggesting a common mechanism for these phenomena. Increasing iron concentration from 0.20 to 0.85 pct greatly increased the number of iron-bearing intermetallic constituent particles and decreased resistance to annealing and creep. AddingMgto the high Fe alloy increased the resistance to annealing and creep. Samples from continuously fabricated rod of either EC or Al-Fe-Mg alloy had greater resistance to annealing and creep than that of conventionally fabricated samples. Transmission electron microscopic examinations revealed no precipitation of iron in the continuously fabricated rod indicating that elements in solution were retarding annealing and creep. Observations of strain aging support the hypothesis that segregation of elements to dislocations is probably the mechanism whereby creep and annealing were retarded. The enantiomers of five racemic anaesthetic drugs were resolved with cyclodextrins using capillary zone electrophoresis. Parameters which affected the chiral resolution, such as type and concentration of cyclodextrin, temperature, and addition of organic modifier were investigated. The results show that the enantiomeric discrimination of the solutes is influenced by the structural shape of the solute molecules, separation temperature, and type of cyclodextrin. It was found that alpha-cyclodextrin was the best enantioselector for resolution of prilocaine and ketamine, while the enantiomers of mepivacaine, ropivacaine, and bupivacaine were resolved with beta-cyclodextrin and/or modified beta-cyclodextrins, i.e., methyl- and 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin, as chiral selectors. The length of the alkyl chain on the amino group of the drug molecule had a strong effect on the enantioresolution of mepivacaine, ropivacaine, and bupivacaine. Baseline separation of racemic ketamine was achieved with alpha- and methyl-beta-cyclodextrin at 15 degrees C. Addition of 5 M urea to the running buffer containing beta-cyclodextrin at high concentrations resulted in the enantioseparation of prilocaine, mepivacaine, and ketamine. Enantioresolution was improved upon the addition of 10% methanol to the buffer containing urea and beta-cyclodextrin. Generally, the complex formed between the S-enantiomers and modified beta-cyclodextrins was stronger than the corresponding R-forms. An exception was prilocaine where the R-form gave a more stable complex both with alpha- and beta-cyclodextrin.  相似文献

This study explores the emergence of the living labs movement based on a literature review and interviews with experts acquainted with early living labs. The study contributes to the growing literature on innovation through living labs by addressing a research gap on why and how this movement is evolving. So doing, the study discusses the emergence of living labs from the perspectives of: (i) early living lab pioneers; (ii) early living lab activities in Europe, especially at Nokia Corporation; (iii) EU funding that supported the creation of living labs; (iv) national living lab networks; and (v) the multinational European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL). Moreover, upon highlighting major events in the emergence of living labs, the study identifies three consecutive phases of the global living lab movement: (i) toward a new paradigm; (ii) learning from experience; and (iii) professional living labs.  相似文献

Stretching DNA in nanochannels is a useful tool for direct, visual studies of genomic DNA at the single molecule level. To facilitate the study of the interaction of linear DNA with proteins in nanochannels, we have implemented a highly effective passivation scheme based on lipid bilayers. We demonstrate virtually complete long-term passivation of nanochannel surfaces to a range of relevant reagents, including streptavidin-coated quantum dots, RecA proteins, and RecA-DNA complexes. We show that the performance of the lipid bilayer is significantly better than that of standard bovine serum albumin-based passivation. Finally, we show how the passivated devices allow us to monitor single DNA cleavage events during enzymatic degradation by DNase I. We expect that our approach will open up for detailed, systematic studies of a wide range of protein-DNA interactions with high spatial and temporal resolution.  相似文献
