Metastable tetragonal ZrO2 phase has been observed in ZrO2–SiO2 binary oxides prepared by the sol–gel method. There are many studies concerning the causes of ZrO2 tetragonal stabilization in binary oxides such as Y3O2–ZrO2, MgO–ZrO2, or CaO–ZrO2. In these binary oxides, oxygen vacancies cause changes or defects in the ZrO2 lattice parameters, which are responsible for tetragonal stabilization. Since oxygen vacancies are not expected in ZrO2–SiO2 binary oxides, tetragonal stabilization should just be due to the difficulty of zirconia particles growing in the silica matrix. Furthermore, changes in the tetragonal ZrO2 crystalline lattice parameters of these binary oxides have recently been reported in a previous paper. The changes of the zirconia crystalline lattice parameters must result from the chemical interactions at the silica–zirconia interface (e.g., formation of Si–O–Zr bonds or Si–O groups). In this paper, FT-IR and 29Si NMR spectroscopy have been used to elucidate whether the presence of Si–O–Zr or Si–O is responsible for tetragonal phase stabilization. Moreover, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy have also been used to study the crystalline characteristics of the samples.  相似文献

We present a procedure whereby the confocal laser scanning ophthalmoscope can be used to extract information about the three-dimensional structure of the central excavated area or the cup of the optic nerve head of the eye. The data are analyzed in terms of spherical harmonics. It is hypothesized that the shape of the cup of the optic nerve head for a normal eye can be parameterized by a specific set of spherical harmonic coefficients and is different from the set of coefficients describing a glaucomatous eye. The sets of coefficients are analyzed by using multivariate statistics and can in turn be used to classify new observations. Preliminary results indicate that there are significant differences in the coefficients and that the procedure might have potential as a diagnostic aid for the detection or the screening of glaucoma.  相似文献

The involvement of functional ion channels in previously documented early responses of osteocytes and osteoblasts to mechanical strain in bone tissue was investigated in explants of rat ulnae by the use of ion channel blockers. Gadolinium chloride (a blocker of stretch/shear-sensitive cation channels) elevated basal prostaglandin (PG) E2 and prostacyclin (PGI2) release and osteocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) activity, but was associated with a reduction in basal nitric oxide (NO) production. Gadolinium abolished loading-related increases in the release of PGI2 and NO and osteocyte G6PD activity. Gadolinium also reduced the loading-related release of PGE2 assumed to originate from osteoblasts and the magnitude of loading-related increases in G6PD activity in these cells. Nifedipine (a blocker of L-type voltage-dependent calcium channels) had no effect on basal levels of prostanoid or NO release, or G6PD activity in osteocytes or osteoblasts, and did not affect loading-related release of PGI2 or increase in osteocyte G6PD. However, nifedipine prevented loading-related increases in PGE2 and NO release and osteoblast G6PD activity. These results are consistent with osteocytes' response to bone loading requiring activatable ion channels sensitive to gadolinium, but not those sensitive to nifedipine. In osteoblasts, the early responses to bone loading appear to be associated with ion channels sensitive to gadolinium and nifedipine; however, the nifedipine-sensitive channels seem to have the dominant effect.  相似文献

Background: Rural/remote blood collection can cause delays in processing, reducing PBMC number, viability, cell composition and function. To mitigate these impacts, blood was stored at 4 °C prior to processing. Viable cell number, viability, immune phenotype, and Interferon-γ (IFN-γ) release were measured. Furthermore, the lowest protective volume of cryopreservation media and cell concentration was investigated. Methods: Blood from 10 individuals was stored for up to 10 days. Flow cytometry and IFN-γ ELISPOT were used to measure immune phenotype and function on thawed PBMC. Additionally, PBMC were cryopreserved in volumes ranging from 500 µL to 25 µL and concentration from 10 × 106 cells/mL to 1.67 × 106 cells/mL. Results: PBMC viability and viable cell number significantly reduced over time compared with samples processed immediately, except when stored for 24 h at RT. Monocytes and NK cells significantly reduced over time regardless of storage temperature. Samples with >24 h of RT storage had an increased proportion in Low-Density Neutrophils and T cells compared with samples stored at 4 °C. IFN-γ release was reduced after 24 h of storage, however not in samples stored at 4 °C for >24 h. The lowest protective volume identified was 150 µL with the lowest density of 6.67 × 106 cells/mL. Conclusion: A sample delay of 24 h at RT does not impact the viability and total viable cell numbers. When long-term delays exist (>4 d) total viable cell number and cell viability losses are reduced in samples stored at 4 °C. Immune phenotype and function are slightly altered after 24 h of storage, further impacts of storage are reduced in samples stored at 4 °C.  相似文献

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterised by airway inflammation and progressive airflow limitation, whereas idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is characterised by a restrictive pattern due to fibrosis and impaired gas exchange. We undertook metabolomic analysis of blood samples in IPF, COPD and healthy controls (HC) to determine differences in circulating molecules and identify novel pathogenic pathways. An untargeted metabolomics using an ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer (UHPLC-QTOF-MS) was performed to profile plasma of patients with COPD (n = 21), and IPF (n = 24) in comparison to plasma from healthy controls (HC; n = 20). The most significant features were identified using multiple database matching. One-way ANOVA and variable importance in projection (VIP) scores were also used to highlight metabolites that influence the specific disease groups. Non-polar metabolites such as fatty acids (FA) and membrane lipids were well resolved and a total of 4805 features were identified. The most prominent metabolite composition differences in lipid mediators identified at ∼2–3 fold higher in both diseases compared to HC were palmitoleic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid; and dihydrotestosterone was lower in both diseases. We demonstrated that COPD and IPF were characterised by systemic changes in lipid constituents such as essential FA sampled from circulating plasma.  相似文献

We propose a new complex-valued taper and derive the properties of a tapered Gaussian semiparametric estimator of the long-memory parameter d ε (−0.5, 1.5). The estimator and its accompanying theory can be applied to generalized unit root testing. In the proposed method, the data are differenced once before the taper is applied. This guarantees that the tapered estimator is invariant with respect to deterministic linear trends in the original series. Any detrimental leakage effects due to the potential noninvertibility of the differenced series are strongly mitigated by the taper. The proposed estimator is shown to be more efficient than existing invariant tapered estimators. Invariance to k th order polynomial trends can be attained by differencing the data k times and then applying a stronger taper, which is given by the k th power of the proposed taper. We show that this new family of tapers enjoys strong efficiency gains over comparable existing tapers. Analysis of both simulated and actual data highlights potential advantages of the tapered estimator of d compared with the nontapered estimator.  相似文献

Abstract.  The restricted likelihood ratio test, RLRT, for the autoregressive coefficient in autoregressive models has recently been shown to be second-order pivotal when the autoregressive coefficient is in the interior of the parameter space and so is very well approximated by the     distribution. In this article, the non-standard asymptotic distribution of the RLRT for the unit root boundary value is obtained and is found to be almost identical to that of the     in the right tail. Together, these two results imply that the     distribution approximates the RLRT distribution very well even for near unit root series and transitions smoothly to the unit root distribution.  相似文献

The clinical and radiological features of seven patients presenting with cholecystocolic fistulae are reviewed. The majority of the patients were elderly (age range 43-85 years, mean 70.7 years) and there was a female preponderance (6:1). The condition usually has a benign clinical course. Diarrhoea was the most common presenting symptom and the typical clinical features of gallbladder disease were absent. Cholangitis occurred in only one patient. The time between onset of symptoms and diagnosis varied from 1 week to 2 years (mean 22 weeks). In only one patient was the diagnosis of biliary-intestinal fistula suspected on the basis of the plain abdominal radiograph (Case 5). A diagnosis of cholecystocolic fistula was established by barium enema (5 cases), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) (1 case) and diagnostic laparotomy (1 case). The only cause identified in this series was acute or chronic cholecystitis.  相似文献
