The three-parameter and two-parameter Weibull distributions are compared using 26 mechanical property data sets of fiber-reinforced polymeric (FRP) composite materials manufactured by the pultrusion process. Both strength and stiffness properties were examined. The probability distributions were compared on the basis of goodness of fit, nominal design values, and allowable load to achieve uniform reliability. It is recommended that the two-parameter Weibull distribution be used to characterize FRP composite material properties. The primary basis for this recommendation is small differences in nominal design values and small differences in allowable loads between the two-parameter and three-parameter Weibull distributions. Other supporting reasons for the recommendation are similar observed significance levels in distribution fitting, computational efficiency, and the fact that the location parameter of the three-parameter Weibull distribution is near the first order statistic.  相似文献

Fat, alkaloid and polyphenol contents of two clones of cocoa (UIT1 and PBC 140) were removed and the remaining powder was autolyzed at pH 3.5 and 5.2. Based on the results, autolysates of UIT produced at pH 3.5 exhibited the highest ability to inhibit α-amylase activity. However, no α-glucosidase inhibition activity was observed under the conditions specified. Autolysates produced under pH 3.5 caused the highest amount of insulin secretion. In streptozotocin-diabetic rats, all cocoa autolysates significantly decreased blood glucose at 4 h. To assure that the results from the assays were not due to the polyphenols of cocoa autolysates qualitative and quantitative tests were applied. According to their results cocoa autolysates were found to be free from polyphenols. Analysis of amino acid composition revealed that cocoa autolysates were abundant in hydrophobic amino acids. It can be suggested that besides other compounds of cocoa, its peptides and amino acids could contribute to its health benefits.  相似文献

Electrolyte additives have been widely used to address critical issues in current metal (ion) battery technologies. While their functions as solid electrolyte interface forming agents are reasonably well-understood, their interactions in the liquid electrolyte environment remain rather elusive. This lack of knowledge represents a significant bottleneck that hinders the development of improved electrolyte systems. Here, the key role of additives in promoting cation (e.g., Li+) desolvation is unraveled. In particular, nitrate anions (NO3) are found to incorporate into the solvation shells, change the local environment of cations (e.g., Li+) as well as their coordination in the electrolytes. The combination of these effects leads to effective Li+ desolvation and enhanced battery performance. Remarkably, the inexpensive NaNO3 can successfully substitute the widely used LiNO3 offering superior long-term stability of Li+ (de-)intercalation at the graphite anode and suppressed polysulfide shuttle effect at the sulfur cathode, while enhancing the performance of lithium–sulfur full batteries (initial capacity of 1153 mAh g−1 at 0.25C) with Coulombic efficiency of ≈100% over 300 cycles. This work provides important new insights into the unexplored effects of additives and paves the way to developing improved electrolytes for electrochemical energy storage applications.  相似文献

Durable, lightweight, and low cost pultruded structural composites are suitable materials for construction applications. An experimental program has been carried out to characterize the tensile behavior of pultruded composite I-shape structural members using coupon specimens of different widths cut from different locations. Results of material strength, modulus, and failure mechanisms are reported. It was observed that the specimen width and original location had significant effects on the variation of the test data. However the average strength and modulus values were not significantly affected by these factors. Recommended methods for specimen selection and for estimation of material property data for structural design are discussed.  相似文献

A study was carried out to evaluate the use of recycled fibres from carpet industrial waste for reinforcement of concrete at 1 and 2 vol% fractions. Compressive, flexural, splitting tensile and shrinkage tests were performed. Significant increases in shatter resistance, energy absorption and ductility were observed. This paper reports on the experimental programme and compares the effectiveness of such recycled fibres with that of virgin polypropylene fibres specially made for fibre reinforced concrete (FRC). The paper also discusses the benefits of using such FRC for construction applications and possible ways to further enhance the performance of such FRC.  相似文献

Face Stability Analysis of Circular Tunnels Driven by a Pressurized Shield   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The aim of this paper is to determine the face collapse pressure of a circular tunnel driven by a pressurized shield. The analysis is performed in the framework of the kinematical approach of limit analysis theory. It is based on a translational three-dimensional multiblock failure mechanism. The present failure mechanism has a significant advantage with respect to the existing limit analysis mechanisms developed in the case of a frictional soil: it takes into account the entire circular tunnel face and not only an inscribed ellipse to this circular area. This was made possible by the use of a spatial discretization technique. Hence, the three-dimensional failure surface was generated “point by point” instead of simple use of existing standard geometric shapes such as cones or cylinders. The numerical results have shown that a multiblock mechanism composed of three blocks is a good compromise between computation time and results accuracy. The present method significantly improves the best available solutions of the collapse pressure given by other kinematical approaches. Design charts are given in the case of a frictional and cohesive soil for practical use in geotechnical engineering.  相似文献

A series of studies on an experimental, full-scale curved steel bridge structure during erection are discussed. The work was part of the Federal Highway Administration’s curved steel bridge research project (CSBRP). The CSBRP is intended to improve the understanding of curved bridge behavior and to develop more rational design guidelines. The main purpose of the studies reported herein was to assess the capability of analytical tools for predicting response during erection. Nine erection studies, examining six different framing plans, are presented. The framing plans are not necessarily representative of curved bridge subassemblies as they would be erected in the field; however, they represent a variety of conditions that would test the robustness of analysis tools and assess the importance of erection sequence on initial stresses in a curved girder bridge. The simply supported, three I-girder system used for the tests is described and methods for reducing and examining the data are discussed. Comparisons between experimental and analytical results demonstrate that analysis tools can predict loads and deformations during construction. Comparison to the V-load method indicates that it predicts stresses in exterior girders well, but can underpredict them for interior girders.  相似文献

This paper presents a reliability-based approach for the analysis and design of a shallow strip footing subjected to a vertical load with or without pseudostatic seismic loading. Only the punching failure mode of the ultimate limit state is studied. The deterministic models are based on the upper-bound method of the limit analysis theory. The random variables used are the soil shear strength parameters and the horizontal seismic coefficient. The Hasofer-Lind reliability index and the failure probability are determined. A sensitivity analysis is also performed. The influence of the applied footing load on the reliability index and the corresponding design point is presented and discussed. It was shown that the negative correlation between the soil shear strength parameters highly increases the reliability of the foundation and that the failure probability is highly influenced by the coefficient of variation of the angle of internal friction of the soil and the horizontal seismic coefficient. For design, an iterative procedure is performed to determine the breadth of the footing for a target failure probability.  相似文献

An efficient technique that examines the optimum shape of elastic continuum structures is presented. The total number of stiffness matrix inversions required to obtain the optimal shape was significantly reduced as a result of using a newly developed iterative and approximate algorithm. The new technique is capable of approximating both displacements and stresses, and allows the user to have control over the degree of approximation. The efficiency of the proposed iterative approach was verified through various numerical examples and proved to be a viable alternative to the direct approach (which requires matrix inversion), especially in large-scale problems. The proposed approach is not limited, however, to shape optimization, but can be applied to other branches of structural optimization.  相似文献
