The effects of age stereotyping on subjects' ratings of interviewee potential were investigated using a simulated auditory interview. Male and female participants (N?=?156) listened to a 12-min interview of a supervisory candidate applying for a temporary position in industry and then rated the interviewee's qualifications for the supervisory position. Participants gave higher overall interview ratings to a younger interviewee even though he had the same qualifications as an older interviewee. Ratings given to the older interviewee, however, were not significantly different from those given to an interviewee whose age was not designated. The findings are discussed in terms of the influence of both positive and negative age stereotypes on ratings of applicant potential. A method for quantitating specific anti-viral antibodies in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is established using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Quantitated antibody levels are used to determine intrathecal specific IgG synthesis rate for the particular antibody. Measles virus was used as a model for validating this quantitative technique: a mutated form of measles virus is a cause of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) and there is a possibility that measles virus is related to the cause of multiple sclerosis (MS). Matched serum and CSF samples were assayed. Concentration of anti-measles IgG was determined and intrathecal measles-specific IgG synthesis rate was calculated. For the SSPE samples, measles-specific IgG synthesis rate was elevated and comprised > 20% of the total intrathecal IgG synthesis rate; these results are consistent with the literature. The ELISA method can be performed routinely, providing a quick, simple, reproducible means of quantitating specific antibody concentrations, with sensitivity greater than 1 nanogram per milliliter. With this method, quantitation of IgG antibodies to any other viral antigen can be reliably and precisely determined.  相似文献

This work presents a straightforward approach aimed at modeling the dynamic I–V characteristics of microwave active solid‐state devices. The drain‐source current generator represents the most significant source of nonlinearity in a transistor and, therefore, its correct modeling is fundamental to predict accurately the current and voltage waveforms under large‐signal operation. The proposed approach relies on using a small set of low‐frequency time‐domain waveform measurements combined with numerical optimization‐based estimation of the nonlinear model parameters. The procedure is applied to a gallium nitride HEMT and silicon FinFET. The effectiveness of the modeling procedure in terms of prediction accuracy and generalization capability is demonstrated by validation of the extracted models under operating conditions different than the ones used for the parameters estimation. Good agreement between measurements and model simulations is achieved for both technologies and in both low‐ and high‐frequency range. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Gallium nitride high electron‐mobility transistors have gained much interest for high‐power and high‐temperature applications at high frequencies. Therefore, there is a need to have the dependence on the temperature included in their models. To meet this challenge, the present study presents a neural approach for extracting a multi‐bias model of a gallium nitride high electron‐mobility transistors including the dependence on the ambient temperature. Bernard M. Bass, distinguished professor emeritus in the School of Management at Binghamton University, was born on June 11, 1925, in the Bronx, New York, and died in Binghamton, New York, on October 11, 2007, at the age of 82. Bass published more than 400 journal articles and technical reports, wrote 21 books, and edited an additional 10. Almost all of his published work dealt with issues of leadership and organizational behavior. Before his death, Bass completed the authoritative resource book in leadership, the fourth edition of the Bass handbook of leadership. In the field of organizational behavior, leadership, and human resource management, there is hardly a niche in which Bass did not have an impact. Cellular Automata (CA) are discrete and parallel computational models useful for simulating dynamic systems that evolve on the basis on local interactions. Some natural events, such as some types of landslides, fall into this type of phenomena and lend themselves well to be simulated with this approach. This paper describes the latest version of the SCIDDICA CA family models, specifically developed to simulate debris-flows type landslides. The latest model of the family, named SCIDDICA-SS3, inherits all the features of its predecessor, SCIDDICA-SS2, with the addition of a particular strategy to manage momentum. The introduction of the latter permits a better approximation of inertial effects that characterize some rapid debris flows. First simulations attempts of real landslides with SCIDDICA-SS3 have produced quite satisfactory results, comparable with the previous model.  相似文献

Studies using peripheral pressure measurements have facilitated studies in identifying particular gain characteristics of baroreflex control loops. However, the baroreceptors are located in central regions of the arterial tree (aortic arch and carotid arteries) and are subjected to peak pressures that are different to those measured in peripheral locations (e.g., finger). The analysis presented shows that if the known transfer function properties between peripheral and central pressures are used to derive central pressure from peripheral measurements, the baroreflex gain characteristics can be calculated in terms of central aortic pressure changes. The results obtained by this method are markedly different than those calculated using peripheral pressure  相似文献

How do leadership ratings collected from units operating under stable conditions predict subsequent performance of those units operating under high stress and uncertainty? To examine this question, the authors calculated the predictive relationships for the transformational and transactional leadership of 72 light infantry rifle platoon leaders for ratings of unit potency, cohesion, and performance for U.S. Army platoons participating in combat simulation exercises. Both transformational and transactional contingent reward leadership ratings of platoon leaders and sergeants positively predicted unit performance. The relationship of platoon leadership to performance was partially mediated through the unit's level of potency and cohesion. Cognitive, perceptual, and psychomotor abilities were examined across the working life span for different racial groups, taking into consideration sex, job experience, education, and occupational type. Data included scores on all subtests of the General Aptitude Test Battery for White, Black, and Hispanic employees. Age and sex generally accounted for a relatively small percentage of the variance in ability test scores when experience, education, and occupational type were controlled. Race accounted for a substantial amount of variance in test performance, even after controlling for education, experience, occupational type, and age. Findings are discussed in terms of the potential for specific experiences and continuing education to affect the maintenance of abilities at later points in the life span for all racial groups.  相似文献

A longitudinal laboratory experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of leadership style (transactional vs transformational) and anonymity level (identified vs anonymous) on group potency and effectiveness of 36 undergraduate student work groups performing a creativity task using a Group Decision Support System (GDSS). GDSS are interactive networks of computers for generating solutions to unstructured problems. Results indicated that GDSS anonymity amplified the positive effect of transformational leadership on group potency relative to transactional leadership in the group writing session of the task. GDSS anonymity also increased the effect of transformational leadership relative to transactional leadership on group effectiveness. Implications for practice and future research are discussed.
