Forests are the chief resource for the collection and exploration of biological materials. The past few decades have witnessed a large scale deforestation in India due to substantial pressures generated by population growth, leading to demand for more land for agriculture, urbanization and industrial activities, in addition to increased demand for fuel wood and timber. This has resulted in the loss of soil cover, habitat destruction, environmental degradation and ecological imbalance. This scenario has created a progressive awareness for the conservation and restoration of habitats and, thus, the declaration of many forest areas into protected zones, such as national parks, biosphere reserves, etc., including the protection of some marine areas, by both the National and State Governments. Normally, permission for biological collecting is not granted in these protected areas. In India, forests are a State subject and grant for collection permission is vested with the State Forest Departments. In the absence of any rules, regulations and guidelines, either from National or State Governments, forest authorities impose their terms and conditions, which are arbitrary and even contradictory at times, in the process of granting collecting permits. One of the more well-studied problems in data mining is the search for association rules in market basket data. Association rules are intended to identify patterns of the type: A customer purchasing item A often also purchases item B. Motivated partly by the goal of generalizing beyond market basket data and partly by the goal of ironing out some problems in the definition of association rules, we develop the notion of dependence rules that identify statistical dependence in both the presence and absence of items in itemsets. We propose measuring significance of dependence via the chi-squared test for independence from classical statistics. This leads to a measure that is upward-closed in the itemset lattice, enabling us to reduce the mining problem to the search for a border between dependent and independent itemsets in the lattice. We develop pruning strategies based on the closure property and thereby devise an efficient algorithm for discovering dependence rules. We demonstrate our algorithm's effectiveness by testing it on census data, text data (wherein we seek term dependence), and synthetic data. 相似文献

The human serum paraoxonase/arylesterase gene (PON1) is one member of a multigene family 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A physiological role for paraoxonase (PON1) is still uncertain, but it catalyzes the hydrolysis of toxic organophosphates. Evidence that the human genome contains two PON1-like genes, designated PON2 and PON3, is presented here. Human PON1 and PON2 each have nine exons, and the exon/intron junctions occur at equivalent positions. PON1 and PON2 genes are both on chromosome 7 in human and on chromosome 6 in the mouse. Turkey and chicken, like most birds, lack paraoxonase activity and are very susceptible to organophosphates. However, they have a PON-like gene with approximately 70% identity with human PON1, PON2, and PON3. Another unexpected finding is that the deduced amino acid sequences of PON2 in human, mouse, dog, turkey, and chicken and of human PON3 are all missing the amino acid residue 105, which is lysine in human PON1. The expanded number of PON genes will have important implications for future experiments designed to discover the individual functions, catalytic properties, and physiological roles of the paraoxonases. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine if changes in omega‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acid status following tuna oil supplementation correlated with changes in scores of depression. A total of 95 volunteers receiving treatment for major depression were randomised to consume 8 × 1 g capsules per day of HiDHA (2 g DHA, 0.6 g EPA and 10 mg Vitamin E) or olive oil (placebo) for 16 weeks, whilst undergoing weekly counseling sessions by trained clinical psychologists using a standard empirically validated psychotherapy. Depression status was assessed using the 17 item Hamilton rating scale for depression and the Beck Depression Inventory by a psychodiagnostician who was blind to the treatment. Blood was taken at baseline and 16 weeks (n = 48) for measurement of erythrocyte fatty acids. With HiDHA supplementation, erythrocyte DHA content rose from 4.1 ± 0.2 to 7.9 ± 0.4 % (mean ± SEM, p < 0.001) of total fatty acids but did not change (4.0 ± 0.2 to 4.1 ± 0.2 %) in the olive oil group. The mean changes in scores of depression did not differ significantly between the two groups (?12.2 ± 2.1 for tuna oil and ?14.4 ± 2.3 for olive oil). However, analysis of covariance showed that in the fish oil group there was a significant correlation (r = ?0.51) between the change in erythrocyte DHA and the change in scores of depression (p < 0.05). Forty patients with temporal epilepsy were operated on with a stereotaxic technique. Eleven patients had a unilateral localization of the epileptic focus, and in 29 bitemporal foci were diagnosed. In evaluating the results of the treatment the dynamics of the epileptic fits, the peculiarities of changes in the mental status, and the degree of social adaptation were taken into consideration. A postoperative improvement was achieved in 73% of the patients with monotemporal lesions, while in those with bitemporal epilepsy and distinct persistent mental disorders the state was improved in 44% of the cases. Indications for the choice of the zone of destruction depending on the clinical peculiarities of the lesion are presented. 相似文献

Male rat liver microsomes contain a [3H]dexamethasone binding site, capable of binding glucocorticoids and progesterone. We have shown previously that the 17 alpha-alkylated androgen, stanozolol, can inhibit the [3H]dexamethasone binding to microsomes through a negative allosteric mechanism, which gives rise to the possibility of its interaction with a different binding site. In this study, the existence of a single-saturating binding site, capable of binding the radioactive steroid with a maximum number of the specific binding site of 49 +/- 2 pmol/mg of protein and a Kd of 37 +/- 1.3 nM was demonstrated by using [3H]stanozolol. In competition experiments, only stanozolol and danazol were able to compete with [3H]stanozolol for its binding to microsomes, among more than 60 steroids and other compounds tested. The binding of [3H]stanozolol was depressed after protease treatment of the microsomes, or after the administration of cycloheximide to adult male rats for 24 hr, which suggest its proteic nature. The [3H]stanozolol binding site was detected in many tissues of the rat, with the highest concentrations being found in the liver. It was detected from birth, increasing afterward in concentration and reaching a peak at 2 to 3 months of age. This is the first experimental verification of the existence in liver microsomes of a specific binding site for some 17 alpha-alkylate androgens, such as stanozolol and danazol, different from the androgen receptor or the [3H]dexamethasone binding site. 相似文献
