This investigation was designed to study alcohol treatment training by focusing on the components of training provided in psychology internship programs approved by the American Psychological Association. Data from 137 training sites revealed that two content areas—group psychotherapy and relapse prevention—were rated as most relevant to alcohol treatment training. Six other domains (aftercare, Alcoholics Anonymous, marital/family therapy, stress management/relaxation procedures, social skills training, and cognitive therapy) were rated as at least quite relevant. The extent to which interns were exposed to these content areas was variable. These findings are discussed in the context of issues surrounding alcohol treatment training among psychology interns and the provision of clinical services to alcohol-abusing patients. Examined 137 psychology internship supervisors' ratings of the clinical utility of 24 professional journals in alcoholism treatment training (ATT). The highest rated journal was Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Addictive Behaviors. Ss also listed texts and readings used in their ATT program. Ss seemed to draw their materials relevant to ATT from a diverse group of journal and text outlets. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Assessed the differential impact of a counselor's touch on depressed and vocationally undecided clients in an initial interview. Specifically, the effects of the counselor's touch on the S's appraisal of the counselor's empathy, unconditional regard, level of regard, congruence, and resistance were investigated. The counselor's touch was also evaluated for its influence on the S's request for a 2nd interview and comfort with the touch. 40 undergraduate female Ss were given the Beck Depression Scale and the Career Decision Scale and were then randomly assigned to 4 groups: (a) touched/depressed, (b) untouched/depressed, (c) touched/vocationally undecided, and (d) untouched/vocationally undecided. Results show that there were no significant differences among the 4 groups on judgments of the counselors or in requests for a 2nd interview. However, in assessing the groups' comfort with the touch, the vocationally undecided Ss were significantly more comfortable with the touch than the depressed Ss.
