Reviews the book, The power of countertransference: Innovations in analytic technique by Karen J. Maroda (see record 1994-98465-000). This is a remarkable and provocative book. On first examination, I thought it was going to be another diatribe against psychoanalytic theory and practice. In the introduction and first chapter, which Maroda entitles: "The Myth of Authority," she points out all of the flaws that she sees in the typical attitude of psychoanalytically oriented analysts. She criticizes the so-called "neutrality" of the analytic position, the authoritarian position of the analyst and the excess emphasis of interpretation as the most critical aspect of the "cure" in psychoanalysis. The rest of the book, however, focuses on countertransference techniques; that is, how to accomplish the countertransference. Maroda's clinical vignettes and technical discussions are detailed and useful. Although one might take issue with some specific clinical points, her discussion is well formulated and her case well argued. This is a rather brief and, at first blush, simple book. It is, however, an important statement of a position on countertransference that is both ground breaking, and a careful exposition. The calculation of equilibrium binding constants for a specific receptor-hormone interaction requires the exact determination of the unbound ligand concentration and the specifically bound concentration at equilibrium. These determinations usually require corrections for the contribution of non-specific binding. We introduce several parameters allowing equilibrium concentrations to be calculated from experimental concentration values; these parameters can be measured for the particular receptor assay procedure used. These parameters are used in a microassay of estradiol-receptor complex by selective retention on DE-81 cellulose paper.  相似文献

The absorption spectra of the NpO2+ ion in the region of the 3 H 53 H 4 magnetic dipole transition (∼1650 nm) in chloride-fluoride melts based on the eutectics NaCl-KCl-CsCl, NaCl-CsCl, and RbCl-CsCl at 650–750°C were recorded. The equilibrium concentrations of neptunium fluoride complexes in these melts were determined from the relative intensities of the NpO2+ absorption bands. Existence of the complexes [NpO2Cl3F]3− and [NpO2Cl2F2]3− was established, and the step stability constants of these complexes in melts of various cationic compositions were calculated.  相似文献

Reviews the book, Negative outcome in psychotherapy and what to do about it edited by Daniel T. Mays and Cyril M. Franks (1985). Negative outcome in psychotherapy is a topic of great importance to the field. The treatment of this topic by Mays and Franks is a comprehensive and ambitious one. Their goals, as outlined in the Introduction, are to 1) generate a definition of negative outcome, 2) bring some preliminary closure to the negative outcome debate, 3) identify contributing variables and 4) offer suggestions for research and treatment application. They proceed to do this through an edited volume, consisting of 14 chapters, which fall into six sections and an Appendix. Of the goals that the editors set for themselves in the Introduction, the most important one, to this reviewer's mind, was not even mentioned--that is, the development of a theoretical framework from which future research can develop. Toxic retinopathy due to alpha interferon in a 20-year-old female is reported. This was an unusual case due to its severity in a non diabetic patient. Recovery of visual acuity was incomplete though angiographic tests normalized. Retinal toxicity in nondiabetic patients is usually reversible, suggesting careful surveillance of high risk patients with retinal microangiopathy given interferon therapy.  相似文献

Explores the history of the interface between psychoanalysis and education. What started out as a cordial relationship early in the history of psychoanalysis turned sour as each field became more entrenched in its own function. Whereas school psychologists interpreted children's difficulties from a cognitive point of view, psychoanalysts interpreted from an affective point of view. By the late 1980s some change began to occur. School psychologists have begun to broaden their strictly cognitive point of view, and psychoanalysts have turned their attention to education. The author elaborates on this rapprochement. The case of a 36-yr-old woman for whom schooling issues had been important conflicts in her life is presented as an example of how the understanding of educational processes can enrich the psychoanalyst's understanding. The absorption spectra of the NpO 2 + (5f 2) ion were examined in the region of the 3H 53 H 4 magnetic dipole transition (1530–1760 nm) for series of melts with the UO 2 2+ concentration varied in the opposite directions: (1) NaCl-2CsCl eutectic melt with growing additions of the Cs2UO2Cl4 complex salt and (2) Cs2UO2Cl4 melt with growing additions of the NaCl-2CsCl mixture. Measurements of the integrated intensities of the bands belonging to the NpO 2 + ·UO 2 2+ complex and unbound NpO 2 + throughout the UO 2 2+ concentration range examined (up to 4.4 M in neat Cs2UO2Cl4 melt) and processing of the data obtained in terms of the mass action law showed that the formation-decomposition reaction of the cation-cation complex can be described adequately only using the equation of reaction in the form NpO2Cl 4 3? + UO2Cl 4 2? ? {Cl4ONpO?UO2Cl3}4? = Cl? (with the equilibrium constant of 1.3±0.1). Thus, the formation of the cationcation complex should be treated as replacement of chloride ion in the equatorial plane of uranyl(VI) by neptunyl(V), rather than as simple addition of UO 2 2+ to NpO 2 + . The reverse reaction, decomposition of the cation-cation complex, consists essentially in replacement of neptunyl(V) by chloride ion.  相似文献

Absorption spectra of the NpO 2 + ion in UO 2 2+ -containing NaCl-KCl-CsCl (0.300:0.245:0.455) and LiCl-KCl-CsCl (0.575:0.165:0.260) eutectic melts in the region of the 5f-5f transitions, 700–2000 nm, were studied at 650 and 500°C, respectively. Processing of the spectra allowed the previously discovered phenomenon, cation-cation interaction of actinides in melts, to be interpreted for the first time in terms of the mass action law. It was shown that, at the concentrations of the interacting components studied (C Np = 0.2 M and C U = 0.1–2 M), a 1: 1 NpO 2 + ·UO 2 2+ cation-cation complex is formed. Its concentration stability constant was estimated at 0.06(6) and 0.11 1 mol?1 for the NaCl-KCl-CsCl and LiCl-KCl-CsCl systems, respectively.  相似文献
