At metal/organic interfaces, the insertion of an organic monolayer can significantly modify the surface properties of the substrate, especially in terms of charge injection across the interface. Herein, we study the formation of an insulating monolayer of morpholine or amine-functionalized polystyrene on Al(111) and Au(111) surfaces and its impact on surface work-function and charge injection. First-principles calculations based on Density Functional Theory have been carried out and point to a significant decrease in the work-function of modified metal surfaces; this is in very good agreement with ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy measurements performed on the Au(111) surface. In addition, a bilayer cathode, consisting of a thin film of high-work-function metal, such as Al and Au, and a layer of amine-functionalized polystyrene, was also fabricated and tested in organic light-emitting diodes. Such bilayer structures exhibit substantially enhanced efficiency when compared with controls without the functionalized polymers. Our combined theoretical and experimental investigation gives insight into how a thin layer of a commodity polymer can be used to transform rather high-work-function metals into high-performance cathodes to provide efficient electron injection.  相似文献

The objective of this article is to illustrate incremental item banking using health-related quality of life data collected from two samples of patients receiving cancer treatment. The kinds of decisions one faces in establishing an item bank for computerized adaptive testing are also illustrated. Pre-calibration procedures include: identifying common items across databases; creating a new database with data from each pool; reverse-scoring "negative" items; identifying rating scales used in items; identifying pivot points in each rating scale; pivot anchoring items at comparable rating scale categories; and identifying items in each instrument that measure the construct of interest. A series of calibrations were conducted in which a small proportion of new items were added to the common core and misfitting items were identified and deleted until an initial item bank has been developed.  相似文献

The Multidimensional Impact of Cancer Risk Assessment (MICRA) is a new tool to measure the specific impact of result disclosure after genetic testing. The authors compared its performance with that of questionnaires measuring general and cancer-specific distress. Participants (158 women) responded 1 month after they received genetic test results. The women were divided into 4 standard clinical test result groups: BRCA1/2 positive, BRCA1/2 negative, panel negative, and true negative. Factor analysis supported the formation of 3 subscales: Distress (6 items, α= .86), Uncertainty (9 items, α= .77), and Positive Experiences (4 items, α= .75). All 3 MICRA subscales differentiated participants who were BRCAI/2 positive from the other 3 groups. MICRA thus helps identify subgroups of vulnerable genetic testing participants. Thermal diffusion, parallel to the photovoltaic junction and perpendicular to the direction of illumination, can be used to separate the contributions of injected and photogenerated carriers to the generation of heat in a photothermal experiment, and to demonstrate the influence of electronic carrier diffusion on the signal, already at relatively low modulation frequencies. We show this by using an experimental arrangement in which the distance is varied between the illuminated area of the photovoltaic cell and that over which the thermal signal is detected, and the two areas do not overlap. Our results agree with theoretical calculations used to simulate the photothermal responses of solar cells.  相似文献

Measurement of quality of life (QOL) in cancer clinical trials has increased in recent years as more groups realize the importance of such endpoints. A key problem has been missing data. Some QOL data may unavoidably be missing, as for example when patients are too ill to complete forms. Other important sources are potentially avoidable and can broadly be divided into three categories: (i) methodological factors; (ii) logistic and administrative factors; (iii) patient-related factors. Logistic and administrative factors, for example, staff oversights, have proven to be most important. Since most QOL measurements require patient self-report, it is usually not possible to rectify the failure to collect baseline data or any follow-up assessments. There is strong evidence that such data are not 'missing at random', and cannot be ignored without introducing bias. Although several approaches to the analysis of partly missing data have been described, none is entirely satisfactory. Prevention of avoidable missing data is better than attempted cure. In July 1996, an international conference on missing QOL data in cancer clinical trials reported the experience of most major groups involved. This paper will serve as an introduction to the problem and provide an estimation of its magnitude, and approaches to its prevention and solution.  相似文献

We evaluated endogenous cholesterol synthesis and plasma lipid profile longitudinally from birth to 1 year old in infants who were exclusively breast-fed (n = 19) or formula-fed (n = 19) for the first 4 months of life. At 1 and 4 months of age, breast-fed infants had higher plasma total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipoprotein B levels than formula-fed infants, whereas plasma mevalonate and lanosterol levels were not different between the two study groups.  相似文献

The performance of a 3.4-Gb/s system using a low-power 1.318- mu m distributed-feedback (DFB) laser transmitter and a traveling-wave semiconductor laser power amplifier is studied. The -14.5-dBm, input from a directly modulated DFB laser is boosted to +10.3 dBm, of which +4.8 dBm is coupled into the transmission fiber. The penalty, caused by amplifier noise and pattern effects due to gain saturation, is less than 0.5 dB.<>  相似文献

We report an application of Kalman filtering to the inverted pendulum (IP) of the Virgo gravitational wave interferometer. Using subspace method system identification techniques, we calculated a linear mechanical model of Virgo IP from experimental transfer functions. We then developed a Kalman filter, based on the obtained state space representation, that estimates from open loop time domain data, the state variables of the system. This allows the observation (and eventually control) of every resonance mode of the IP mechanical structure independently.  相似文献
