Magnetorheological materials have been used in many applications in recent years. To develop new materials, polyurethane and silicone polymer gels were investigated. Rheology is qualitatively controlled for each system by controlling the concentration of reactants and diluents. The resulting polymers have solid, gel, or liquid states, depending on the crosslinking and dilution. The gels were characterized through kinetic analysis. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used with analysis methods to find the kinetic properties for diluted and undiluted polyurethane systems. Heat of reaction, order of reaction, preexponential constant, and activation energy were obtained from the experimental DSC data. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In recent years the development efforts for Siemens PWR fuel assemblies were mainly concentrated on reducing the fuel cycle costs and increasing the operational reliability of the fuel assemblies.The first objective was aimed at increasing the average discharge burnup to > 50 MWd/kgU and increasing the critical heat flux. The high envisaged burnup required to develop a corrosion resistant cladding tube outside the Zry-4 range. The decision was made to use a Duplex cladding tube consisting of a corrosion optimized outer layer on a Zry-4 base material. A ZrSnFeCr alloy with reduced tin content was chosen for the outer layer. The critical heat flux could be increased by introducing mixing vanes on the spacer grids within the active length.To reach the second objective, reliable avoidance of spacer grid damage during core loading and unloading and reduction of fuel rod defects by debris fretting, the spacer grid corners were improved and a debris separation grid was developed.These design improvements were introduced into the new FOCUS-type fuel assembly. The name FOCUS stands for “Fuel assembly with Optimized Cladding and Upgraded Structure”.  相似文献

The monolithic integration of components holds promise to increase network functionality and reduce packaging expense. Integration also drives down yield due to manufacturing complexity and the compounding of failures across devices. Consensus is lacking on the economically preferred extent of integration. Previous studies on the cost feasibility of integration have used high-level estimation methods. This study instead focuses on accurate-to-industry detail, basing a process-based cost model of device manufacture on data collected from 20 firms across the optoelectronics supply chain. The model presented allows for the definition of process organization, including testing, as well as processing conditions, operational characteristics, and level of automation at each step. This study focuses on the cost implications of integration of a 1550-nm DFB laser with an electroabsorptive modulator on an InP platform. Results show the monolithically integrated design to be more cost competitive over discrete component options regardless of production scale. Dominant cost drivers are packaging, testing, and assembly. Leveraging the technical detail underlying model projections, component alignment, bonding, and metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) are identified as processes where technical improvements are most critical to lowering costs. Such results should encourage exploration of the cost advantages of further integration and focus cost-driven technology development.  相似文献

The measurement of real and apparent power derating of three-phase transformers is important for transformers feeding nonlinear loads. This paper presents a new digital data-acquisition method for measuring derating and reactive power demand of three-phase transformers under full or partial load conditions. The accuracy requirements of the instruments employed (potential, current transformers, shunts, voltage dividers, optocouplers volt- and current meters) are addressed. Application examples demonstrate the usefulness of this new digital data-acquisition method.  相似文献

BID: a novel BH3 domain-only death agonist   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The BCL-2 family of proteins consists of both antagonists (e.g., BCL-2) and agonists (e.g., BAX) that regulate apoptosis and compete through dimerization. The BH1 and BH2 domains of BCL-2 are required to heterodimerize with BAX and to repress cell death; conversely, the BH3 domain of BAX is required to heterodimerize with BCL-2 and to promote cell death. To extend this pathway, we used interactive cloning to identify Bid, which encodes a novel death agonist that heterodimerizes with either agonists (BAX) or antagonists (BCL-2). BID possesses only the BH3 domain, lacks a carboxy-terminal signal-anchor segment, and is found in both cytosolic and membrane locations. BID counters the protective effect of BCL-2. Moreover, expression of BID, without another death stimulus, induces ICE-like proteases and apoptosis. Mutagenesis revealed that an intact BH3 domain of BID was required to bind the BH1 domain of either BCL-2 or BAX. A BH3 mutant of BID that still heterodimerized with BCL-2 failed to promote apoptosis, dissociating these activities. In contrast, the only BID BH3 mutant that retained death promoting activity interacted with BAX, but not BCL-2. This BH3-only molecule supports BH3 as a death domain and favors a model in which BID represents a death ligand for the membrane-bound receptor BAX.  相似文献

The nitric oxide (NO) production by porcine aortic valve endothelial cells was estimated in cusps incubated at 37 degrees C by measuring their cyclic GMP content and the nitrite levels of the incubation medium. After a stabilization period, incubation for 5 min with acetylcholine, bradykinin, ADP and bovine thrombin resulted in a receptor-mediated increase in cyclic GMP which could be blocked by EGTA, N-omega-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) and NG-monomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA). Incubation with lipopolysaccharide (endotoxin) from E. coli O111:B4 or bovine for 5 h, dose-dependently increased nitrite production as well as cyclic GMP content. The elevated nitrite production was completely abolished in the presence of the protein synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide, was reduced by more than 50% by dexamethasone but was not affected by EGTA. L-NMMA dose-dependently reduced the increased nitrite production and cyclic GMP content. These results suggest that besides the presence of a constitutive NO synthase in porcine aortic valve endothelial cells thrombin, like lipopolysaccharide, triggers the de novo expression of an inducible Ca(2+)-independent NO synthase.  相似文献

We have examined the 3'-terminal sequence of the "small" structural ribosomal RNA ("13S") of hamster cell mitochondria, using a procedure involving [3H]isoniazide labeling of samples subjected to sequential periodate oxidation and beta-elimination. The terminus was found to be PyUAUUAOH, which is similar, but not identical, to the corresponding terminus of eukaryotic cytoplasmic 18S rRNA.  相似文献

To maintain the original distribution pattern of diffusible elements in biological samples, electron probe microanalysis is carried out with frozen hydrated bulk specimens and cryosections, analysed at temperatures below 130 K. Ice has a very low intrinsic conductivity at this working temperature and surface- and space-charging appears, when uncoated specimens are irradiated with non-penetrating electrons. Although coating with a grounded conductor abolishes the surface potential, the build-up of an internal space-charge field is possible, depending on the sample thickness and beam voltage used. Consequently, the geometry of the X-ray source volume and the spectral distribution of the emitted continuous and characteristic X-rays are affected. To simulate the situation for microanalysis of frozen hydrated specimens the charging process in electron irradiated ice is studied by recording simultaneous specimen currents from the top and bottom of ice layer preparations. The external currents yield information on the build-up of internal space-charge fields which result from the balance of charge injection, storage, and transport. Irradiation of uncoated bulk specimens with a finely focused beam results in the build-up of a space-charge field close to the surface, which causes a reduction of the depth of microprobe analysis. In coated bulk specimens the induced conductivity renders possible a current flow to the front electrode, thereby limiting the space-charge field. Sections with an effective rear electrode will not charge appreciably if the electron range is larger than about half the section thickness.  相似文献
