Usability engineering for augmented reality: employing user-based studies to inform design 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A major challenge, and thus opportunity, in the field of human-computer interaction and specifically usability engineering is designing effective user interfaces for emerging technologies that have no established design guidelines or interaction metaphors or introduce completely new ways for users to perceive and interact with technology and the world around them. Clearly, augmented reality is one such emerging technology. We propose a usability engineering approach that employs user-based studies to inform design, by iteratively inserting a series of user-based studies into a traditional usability engineering lifecycle to better inform initial user interface designs. We present an exemplar user-based study conducted to gain insight into how users perceive text in outdoor augmented reality settings and to derive implications for design in outdoor augmented reality. We also describe lessons learned from our experiences conducting user-based studies as part of the design process. 相似文献

The synthesis of 11 alpha-hydroxyestrone, 11 alpha-hydroxy-9 beta-estrone, and 11 beta-hydroxy-9 beta-estrone are presented. The reduction of 11-keto-9 beta-estrone 17-ethyleneketal by sodium in ethanol or sodium borohydride resulted in 11-hydroxy-9 beta-estrones. The 11-hydroxyl group configurations were opposite to expectations: sodium in boiling ethanol afforded the axial 11 beta-hydroxy-9 beta-estrone, while sodium borohydride in boiling tetrahydrofuran gave the equatorial 11 alpha-hydroxy-9 beta-estrone. In immature rat uterotropic bioassays using subcutaneous injections, 11 alpha-hydroxyestrone was 2 times as active as 11 alpha-hydroxy-9 beta-estrone, and 11 beta-hydroxyestrone was 10 times as active as 11 beta-hydroxy-9 beta-estrone. 相似文献

This study was motivated by the emerging hypothesis that right-handers are more strongly lateralized and perform better on various aspects of functional asymmetry than do left-handers. 84 Right- and 60 left-handers (undergraduates) were observed for hand selection responses to a unimanual task of reaching for a small cube in positions of right and left hemispace, prompting hemispheric decision-making related to hand dominance and attentional (visuospatial) stimuli. As predicted, left-handers did not respond with their preferred limb as consistently across positions as did right-handers. Additional inspection of the task suggests that being less lateralized may not be a disadvantage in this context, and that environmental influence may play a significant role in hand selection for a particular motor event. In this article we show that a focus on patient collaboration, as a marker for the therapeutic alliance, is advantageous not only for theory and research but also for clinical practice. This point of view in no way minimizes the importance of the therapist's activity or the clinical significance of the interaction between patient and therapist. Rather, it focuses attention on how the therapist's personality, skill, and technique interact with the problems the patient brings to psychotherapy. Objective: Transference interpretation is considered as a core active ingredient in dynamic psychotherapy. In common clinical theory, it is maintained that more mature relationships, as well as a strong therapeutic alliance, may be prerequisites for successful transference work. In this study, the interaction between quality of object relations, transference interpretation, and alliance is estimated. Method: One hundred outpatients seeking psychotherapy for depression, anxiety, and personality disorders were randomly assigned to 1 year of weekly sessions of dynamic psychotherapy with transference interpretation or to the same type and duration of treatment, but without the use of transference interpretation. Quality of Object Relations (QOR)–lifelong pattern was evaluated before treatment (P. H?glend, 1994). The Working Alliance Inventory (A. O. Horvath & L. S. Greenberg, 1989; T. J. Tracey & A. M. Kokotovic, 1989) was rated in Session 7. The primary outcome variable was the Psychodynamic Functioning Scales (P. H?glend et al., 2000), measured at pretreatment, posttreatment, and 1 year after treatment termination. Results: A significant Treatment Group × Quality of Object Relations × Alliance interaction was present, indicating that alliance had a significantly different impact on effects of transference interpretation, depending on the level of QOR. The impact of transference interpretation on psychodynamic functioning was more positive within the context of a weak therapeutic alliance for patients with low quality of object relations. For patients with more mature object relations and high alliance, the authors observed a negative effect of transference work. Conclusion: The specific effects of transference work was influenced by the interaction of object relations and alliance, but in the direct opposite direction of what is generally maintained in mainstream clinical theory. Developed methods for assessing moment-to-moment changes in patients' participation in the therapy process. Sessions of 39 patients with borderline personality disorder were studied to determine interrater reliability (IR) for measures of changes in Ss' collaboration (COL). Raters were 3 experienced, psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapists. Changes in Ss' COL from one-third of the session to the next (drifts), changes in COL at specific junctures (shifts), and global measures of COL for each session were identified. There was some success in establishing IR for assessments of drifts, but reliability for assessments of shifts was not evident. Despite the emphasis on conceptualizing and operationalizing shifts, there was relatively infrequent independent agreement among raters about the occurrence of shifts in Ss' COL. User-centered design and evaluation of virtual environments 总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
We present a structured, iterative methodology for user-centered design and evaluation of VE user interaction. We recommend performing (1) user task analysis followed by (2) expert guidelines-based evaluation, (3) formative user-centered evaluation, and finally (4) comparative evaluation. In this article we first give the motivation and background for our methodology, then we describe each technique in some detail. We applied these techniques to a real-world battlefield visualization VE. Finally, we evaluate why this approach provides a cost-effective strategy for assessing and iteratively improving user interaction in VEs 相似文献
